About how many grams of sugar should a woman have everyday?

11 Replies (last)

anyone?

Good morning :+)

I have been looking on the net and can not find a definite answer.

The articles are confusing because part of your sugar intake is combined with carbohydrate intake (which turns to sugar).

I think it also depends on your height and weight how much you are permitted per day.

Sorry, no answer, If I find it I will drop you a line later.

Perhaps a nutritionist can help us?

According to this John Hopkins medicine article it states the following;

According to the USDA, people consuming 2,000 calories a day shouldn't eat more than about 10 teaspoons of added sugar, yet their surveys show that the average American is consuming about 20 teaspoons of sugar per day.

here is the link to read the rest of the article

hope this helps

There is no recommended minimum for added, refined sugar.   It has no nutrients.   Leaving fruit out of the equation, you could exist quite happily on zero sugar.  However, given that this is real life and not some lab experiment you could have 50g or so over a day without incident.

omg.....i have had 72 grams of sugar today without dinner!!!! HELP!!!! Will i die or get diabetes or something???

lmao. No. You won't die or get diabetes.

im not imao!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am just over-reacting. Sorry!!!!!!!!!! Actually, i love life!!!!!!!!!! Ok....

I will end this post. I guess my body needs less sugar, one day wont hurt me, and my body is just not used to this much sugar.

Sugar doesn't actually cause diabetes, by the way...

If you've had less than 100 grams of sugar, you're still doing far better than the average non-dieting American. Remember - only ADDED sugar really counts. The sugar in fresh fruit and milk is not the same thing. It's buffered by the fat, protein, and fiber in the fruit/dairy so it has a much lower impact on your bloodsugar levels than refined white sugar (or HFCS or honey) does.

Maybe the question would be best rephrased as "How many carbs does the average woman need per day?"

I watch my carbs and my sugar intake. I eat roughly 1700 calories a day. I usually hit my goal of: Sugar intake under 50 grams and carbs under 150 grams.
