Once I have anything sugary....Can I live sugar free or will life lose it's meaning. I have tried sugar free stuff but it still sets off the craving. I am in "recovery" 8 years and struggled with same "triggering" issues. I can't give everything up. Not much left to give up. Maybe I am spoiled.
One week at a time. You can do it--you've already proved you can. Candy and cake is easier to give up than other things because you really can live without it. And your sweet tooth goes away pretty quickly. When you've been off it for awhile, sweets don't even taste good anymore. Too sweet. And, if you're having a tough time with cravings, eat a really big orange.
I agree with rosieblue. I use to have a bowl of ice cream every night. In fact, I told my wife before we were married that not having ice cream in the freezer was grounds for divorce!!
However, as I got older, my weight ballooned to over 275 lbs, so I started eating healthy. Never followed any particular diet. Just cut back on items containing sugar and processed flour (luckily, I am not a bread fan). I have gotten down to 220, where I have been maintaining for the last 3 years.
I don't buy sweets, so if they-re not around, I won't eat them and I find that I really don't miss them. I realized after a couple of times eating them again that they actually make me feel lethargic.
I agree with the other posters.... one day at a time and the cravings will go away after you have been sugar free for a while.
I was a HUGE sugar eater .... I wouldn't advise eating the fake sugar stuff... for me... it made the cravings worse. I would eat fresh fruit to satisfy the need for something sweet. I eat the the Kashi cereals dry when I want something sweet... they are high in fiber and taste pretty good.
You will see how much better you feel once you get off all the processed sugary stuff! I believe sugar is a drug! I would try and not have anything in the house that is tempting. Hang in there! If I can get off of sugar... anyone can!
