Sugar Headaches
I have heard you guys talk about sugar headaches for some time, thinking jealously to myself "I wish I got them - I'd be less likely to crave sugar if I knew I'd be having a headache to follow!"
Well, yesterday I had my first scheduled treat after 4 weeks of healthy living - a big slice of chocolate and hazlenut cake. I mean, BIG. This must have been 250 grams easily. I left about 1/5th of it on the plate- never has this happened to me before, but I had to, I felt so full. Then I felt the begginings of something throbbing in my forehead. I had a massive sugar headache that lasted the rest of the night. I felt so full the rest of the night that I couldn't even think about eating anything (so I ended up *under* my cals for that day, though over 1200 of course!)
I feel proud of my body that it finally rejects the things that are not good for it.
Anyone with similar experiences?

On vacation we stopped for a super healthy breakfast at Krispy Kreme, of all places! Being on vacation, I figured it wouldn't hurt to indulge in something yummy. It did! We didn't get out of the store before the headache started and it ruined my whole dayeven though I spent the rest of theday eating healthy stuff. It was horrible. I couldn't see straight and nothing helped. Of course we were spending the day at an amusement park, in the sun and heat, on all kinds of rides.
I get those too!!! I treated myself to peanut butter and marshmallow fluff on toast the other day, and just the marshmallow fluff alone made me feel like crap. I hadn't worked out that day, though, and I think it made a difference. I had a little bit tonight, but didn't get a headache...although I noticed my mood dropped! WEIRD.

Liz, it might have been the spike and plumet of blood sugar, that caused your mood swing.
I am so glad you posted this. I've never heard of sugar headaches but apparently they've been victimizing me for a few weeks. Now I know...thanks so much.
Got one right now. =) Mine's a bit of nausea mixed with a headache. My family bought a box of iced Cinnabon cinnamon buns. I think if I had to choose one all-time weak spot, it would be a GOOD cinnamon bun. I even allotted the calories for half a bun, about 400 cals (can you believe they're almost 800 for a whole one???), and right now I'm almost regretting it.... almost. =) Tasted a little too good to be truly regretting it, even with this fantastic sick feeling.
Went on vacation over the 4th of July weekend and I tried to treat myself to a Krispy Creme glazed doughnut. Man half way through I got a terrible stomach ache. It actually sickened me to look at it. I had to through it away,
Never realized it, but I think I had one this weekend. My mom and I went to IKEA and shared a sandwich and a peice of chocolate torte cake. Had the worst headache about 20min later. Could be because the only sugar I have eaten in the last few months is from powerbars. hummm.
I get those too. My biggest weakness is my boyfriend. He always wants to eat bad stuff even though he knows we shouldn't and then we end up sharing. One day a couple weeks ago we were in the store and we wanted to get doughnuts. I figured splitting one wouldn't be too bad, but both of us felt nauseous after.
I found this old post and glad I did. I have not been eating as much sugar as I use to and tonight I made nutella smores and boy do I have a whoppin headache now. Grrrrr wish I had ate an orange instead.
Walkingbriskly, 250 grams of sugar is way too much sugar to consume in one day. The American Diabetes Association and the Canadian FDA set a daily limit of 60 grams of added sugar. The British FDA sets a daily limit of 83 grams of added sugar. The USDA recommends a daily limit of 40 grams of added sugar, although the FDA has not adopted that 40 gram standard.
Nutrition labels in the US do not have a number for the percent daily value of sugar.
