sugar intake? what's normal? what's TOO MUCH?
i had 112 g. today--
keep in mind that i eat TONS of fruit----TONS!! which I know raises my sugar intake levels but I was just curious cause I know the body doesn't differentiate btwn. the sugar I take in from FRUIT vs. reg. table sugar. GRANTED the sugar in fruit is NATURAL and is combined with the FIBER in the fruit itself making the absorption slower etc. etc. but what's a NORMAL sugar intake?
THANKS

to Shakti411: I'm not too familiar with all of the outlines of a raw vegan diet - but beans are low in sugar, high in fiber (to keep you full) and should help a lot with keeping you full! Also don't forget veggies high in fiber (broccoli) - those are lower in cals and will help you to feel full, instead of just amping up on nuts! Also - banana's and pineapple (especially juice as you mention) are some of the fruite with higher sugar levels. Maybe try raspberries, or rhubarb, which are low in sugar and high in fiber! :o)
Hope that helps some!
she does not eat cooked food, raw beans? It must be disgusting! :o(
All this discussion about sugar is fascinating. How long does it take to kick a REAL sugar habit. It seems as if all I do is crave sweet things. I am getting better but it is soooo hard. Any suggestions?
Dr. Oz suggested 6 teaspoons of sugar or 25 g per day. But is that 6 teaspoons that's NOT in natural foods like fruit? I was assuming it was something like adding sugar to tea, jams, honey etc. not fruit and naturally occuring sugars in foods. If it's total including fruits, it seems almost impossible to do.
I'm confused too I had fruit for my breakfast today 100g Red Plums, 54g Blueberries and 88g banana, plus a 125g pot natural yoghurt reduced fat. Total cals 198, but sugar Yikes 31g or 78% of my daily recommended amount!
Now I don't know about you guys but, I'm well within my saturated fat guideline, and all fats guideline, I limit my alcohol, my sodium is well under as well, I keep with in my calories now you're telling I have to cut sugar out too? I think it's impossible for me.
Seems like there's a lot of confusion here...lol. I thought the guy from Oz was a wizard. Now he's a Dr.? Who knew?...lol.
How long does it take to kick a real sugar habit Diarndt? I did it overnight. I stopped eating processed sugar cold turkey because I had decided that it wasn't good for me and I no longer needed it. I buy no sugar at home, and now only rarely will I eat anything made with sugar, usually at a party or gathering of some kind. I don't miss it at all!! Sugar fools you into thinking things taste better than they really do and once you get off sugar, your taste buds seem to come alive and fruits for example, ripe and ready to eat, are just an explosion of flavour and natural sweetness in your mouth. Everything tastes better and you really get a lot of enjoyment out of a good apple, strawberries, blueberries, peaches, plums etc.
It takes time to adjust but you'll get there. I use stevia in my coffee and tea now, an all natural plant extract with zero calories. It takes a bit of getting used to but you do and after a while you don't want anything else...at least in my case and everyone I know that's tried it..
SO am I not a sugar junky then? I don't eat processed food at all , I'm lucky to be out of work and can prepare all my own food from scratch, I don't eat sugar on anything and I don't have sugar in tea or coffee. I don't eat cake or biscuits. I do eat fruit for breakfast. Yay I'm ok after all ![]()
Rosl, that's the first time I heard someone say, "I'm lucky to be out of work"...lol. Yes you are not a sugar junkie...lol....
Silver lining to every cloud I'm healthier than i've ever been as I can't afford convenience foods ![]()
Now that's a positive attitude!!! ![]()
Thank you the way I see it I can't change the situation but I can change my attitude. I am grateful for the free work out when I have to walk places and for the good food when I can't afford to eat out or buy in. Let's face it there are plenty of people worse off and at least I still have access to a PC and CC .
