Sugar question.
How can I be going way over my daily sugar intake if I am not eating high calorie foods?
Sugar itself is not very "high calorie". Most "high calorie" foods are calorie dense because of their fat content. One gram of fat has 9 calories, and one gram of sugar or protein has 4 calories. There are many high sugar foods that aren't very calorie dense. Fruit is an example. It's low calorie, but almost all of the calories come from sugar/starch.
Sorry. I didn't mean high calorie I mean't high sugar.
Do you eat a lot of processed foods? Sugars often lurk in things prepackaged and processed. Meats, even - ham contains sugars even when plain if it's been processed (and don't get me started on the ones with honey glaze!), for example.
No I do not. Quite the opposite. I eat mostly organic or as unprocessed as possible. But I think I figured it out. I eat lots of fruit.
Are you using the CC calculator?
Because it may not match what you are actually eating. For instance, maybe CC thinks yogurt has 27 g of sugar when in reality yours only has 14 g but the same amount of calories.
No because it has the exact brand and flavor...plus I checked.
look at the individual items you are eating to figure out which ones have the sugar. as you said its probably the fruit.
The maximum safe amount of added sugar is about 60 grams per day.
Fruit contains sugar.... It's fructose, usually, which is a natural sugar but it's still sugar. If you limit your fruit consumption to 2 or 3 pieces a day and try to get your energy from other foods instead then you'll be getting a more balanced diet in total and your sugar intake would reduce.
As said, it's added sugar you need to worry for. Fruit sugars and natural sugars are less concerning. You should also remember that, in weight gain, you ought to focus on percentages and not on grams as grams will be high no matter what if you're eating the 2500+ you need for gaining. A good ratio is 55-60% carbs, 10-15% protein, 25-30% fat.
Why do I get bad cramps after I eat?
Suspect lactose intolerance when abdominal cramps are a problem, especially after breakfast when milk products are consumed. Lactose... Read more
