Sugar sandwich - I'm prepared to be judged for this

Quote  |  Reply

So the cafeteria at work makes AMAZING sugar donuts.... and I smelt them comming in this morning... and have been thinking about them ever since. I almost went and bought one... so I pulled out one of my mom's sweet-tooth staples (which has grossed out many a guest...)

two slices of multi-grain bread topped with a bit of butter and brown sugar - fixed me right up! Sure I could have had the donut for the same cals.... but at least this way it was multi-grain! haha... sometimes I guess you've just got to forget about the calorie counting...

I mixed in a bit of artificial sweetener with the sugar, and I wish I hadn't... that stuff totally tastes like chemicals to me...

Just thought I would post my cheat!

I bet your sugar sandwich was far lower in calories. Donuts have a lot of oils (not olive oil) and are fried.

What you had was a terrific alternative. Hope you logged it. What was the total calorie number for it?

I'd skip the fake sugar too. If you like cinnamon you could make a cinnamon brown sugar sandwich.

I wouldn't call it a cheat. If you had eaten the donut it would have been very unhealthy and you would have felt badly and may have even had another. By eating the sandwich you chose to eat something sweet that actually had some nutrients and was lower in calorie. That was not a cheat, that was a mindful detour around a donut. Now, if you ate one with every meal, the calories would add up, but it won't hurt to have one every now and then.

Great idea!

How is that weird? Thats basically cinnamon toast but made into a sandwich. Try putting peanut butter, butter, and chocolate chips and melting it on some bread. Thats good. And i agree, those sweetners taste like chemical sand.

no it was definitely probably the same amount of calories as a donut

possibly more filling though, as donuts usually just melt in my mouth and are gone in a second and then i want 10 more

I make sugar toast sometimes. SUPER YUM!

Not weird at all.  I make whole grain toast with cinnamon sugar all the time.  It is a fantastic treat and really not that bad for you.  I use the spray buitter though.

You know that the spray butter has as many calories per gram as the regular stuff, right?

I would have went for a donut. *shrug

yes but you can get a thinner more spreadable layer than just scraping on a knife full. i don't know, maybe im just challenged when it comes to using the knife, but the spray i can spread around with my finger (clean of course). the spray has to spray very finely tho and not get clogged if not its just the same thing as with a knife.

My fav: Peanut butter brown sugar sandwiches YUM!

Also a fan of the toast with butter & sugar & cinn.

My bf brought home a jar of Fluff on the weekend (marshmallow spread for those who don't know). Fluffernutter anyone? (I had myself a pb & marshmallow sandwich on Sat... *drool*)

I had oat toast with butter and honey this morning...different form of sugar.  I'm so not judging!

That was one of my staple lunch sandwiches from about 3rd grade to 7th grade.  I loved them!  I stopped eating them though because they became too sweet for me.  And I eat sugary cereals as long as they come with a lot of fiber...take what you can get and be happy!

The brown sugar sandwich was a staple breakfast (eek!) for me and my siblings growing up (only when my parents were still asleep on the weekend, I'm pretty sure) only we took it a step further by using Eggos instead of bread.  Delish.

My dad used to make us sugar sandwiches whenever we were sick as kids. Always made us all better :)

I've never tried a sugar sandwich but I expect they are very near the same calories as a doughnut, unless it was a crispy creme doughnut as they are very high in calories.  One of my work colleagues eats at least 2 doughnuts every morning for breakfast! yuk.

I think you did a good job at compromising. You probably saved alot of calories and fat by skipping the donut. And I dont think its weird or gross at all. One of my friends used to eat that whenever she wanted something sweet.

I think that's a very yummy idea. My mom was completely disturbed when I made myself one the other day though. >.<

When I was little, my mom would make me toast spread with butter and sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon. So delicious!

cinnamon sugar toast is probably one of the best foods on the planet.

And i bet you saved a few calories, but A TON of (bad) fat.

And lets not forget you used a way better source of grian then the donut

And cinnamon toast just ROCKS!!!!!!

I love toast with peanut putter and nuttella!!!

its like a reeses peanut butter cup!!

I use the "I can't believe it's not butter" spray and it has less calories then regular butter and I never have any issues with it clumping. I also use way less then what I would if I were to use the regular stuff. I use it on popcorn, vegeies, toast, I use it on everything......
