Why would you suggest liposuction to a 16 year old girl?
Asked by anonymous on Nov 10, 2008 in Weight Maintenance

I saw a question from a sixteen year old in regards to a little pouch of fat on her belly.  My guess is what she is stressing over is probably a natural part of how her body is since she is at an optimal weight.  I wish you would have suggested that she learn to love this small bit of pouch as opposed to suggesting liposuction. I'm not against the option of liposuction, but for a sixteen year old?   Come on... we should be promoting how to love our bodies to a 16 year old.

Answer

Thanks for the feedback. I intended to stress that almost all women have some belly fat and the girl should accept the healthy body she was given.   But since she didn’t have a pound to lose, I mentioned liposuction as an option, at least for the general reader at ideal weight with belly fat .  I don’t think a 16 year old girl, or almost anyone else, should bother with liposuction.  I’m sorry that didn't come across and I’ll remove it in the archives.  My personal belief is that body image issues keep women in chains as well as deprive the society of much needed brain power.
