(love the site, so consider this a critique.. nothing negative...)
I sent off these site suggestions to the webmaster.
Your nutrition analysis should benchmark the type
of fats when avaiable. Some fats are good and help
people lose weight.
It should also benchmark potassium intake when
available. Potassium helps offset sodium and gives
a better idea of adding potassium rich foods on
days sodium might be a little higher.
You should put mono and poly fats on your "add and
item" screen.
You should allow for other forms of "weight" on
your add an item screen.
You should have an option for items added by users
to be "verified" by staff or the community and thus
added to the permanent database (adding whatever
fields are neccessary on the "add an item" screen).
^ An idea for this would be creating a "point
system" such as a user getting a POINT for adding a
food. They get another point if the food is
verified. The person verifying the food gets a
point. Another point is added to the user and each
verifyer for each time the food is verified (like
multi-level point distribution). If verified by
staff, they get 5 points. Points can later be used
for things like:
- a special "high priority" forum
- negotiate with food companies to provide coupons
in exchange for points
- allow users to add additional photos to their
accounts for a certain amount of points per month
- negotiate with authors to trade ebook, music or
video downloads for points (good promotion)
etc.
You can also add point gaining for things like
inviting a friend, adding a recipe, replying in the
forums, etc.
You should take a look at TRAINEO.COM and see what
they are doing in as far as "logs". Their features
of making custom logs, as well as, log download
makes their site something I use regularly.
Add an option to allow people to "edit" their
additions to the food log such as moving an item or
changing the portions. It's quite frustrating to
have to duplicate an item then delete an old item.
Remove the step in between.
Add "auto-tagging" items added to log (e.g. tag
this item?)
Add a "Measurement Log" to benchmark changes in
girth of waist, chest, hips, neck, wrists,
forearms, upper arms, calves, thighs and ankles
etc. Muscle gain can look like "no-progress" and
discouraging on the scale, but in reality -- it's
well, awesome.
You should have other timing options instead of
breakfast, snack, lunch and dinner. Add brunch,
supper, dessert and expand snacks to daytime snack,
midafternoon snack, evening snack, etc. This will
accomodate most on the markt dieters who eat 4-6
small meals a day.
chck out thedailyplate.com for ideas
It would be COOL if you could implement some kind
of visual graphical before and after. I've seen
this done on other sites. The "virtual body"
concept. Seeing is believing.
The mobile site does not work on the Sprint
Motorola Q or PPC-6700.
Add "previous" and "next" day buttons to the
activity log "add" screen.
When adding Activities, under the "This is
equivalent to eating any of the lines of the
following table." area, it would be better if such
equivilencies we're drawn from an individual users
OWN food logs. It would be MORE motivating to see
we just burned that chocalte brownie we just ate
off.
Create a PLAN vs. ACTUAL for each log. Seeing what
was planned vs. what actually took place may help
those who like the challenge of achieving their
intentions.
Create a printout version of each log or a daily
summary.
Create a log comparing calories consumed less
calories burned (via activity) less calories burned
(sedintary/moderate/etc.) to give people an
ESTIMATE of weight loss. This will help people know
if they've hit a plateau, and adjust their workout
or eating accordingly.
Use java to make todays food log and todays actvity
log expanadable right on the home page (or make
those headers links)
Allow upload of progress photos (once per month?)
Have a.m. and p.m. in the journal entries
When adding a copy of a "user added" food, if
changing the portions, one must change every value
for that portion. You should make some way of
automating this the same way portions are auto-
adjusted for database foods.
When deleting a 'user added food" a link remains in
the tag list (if added) but this link goes nowhere.
Either lose the link when the item is removed from
all logs, or make a user added food in a seperate
log so it is a permanent part of an account (or add
them to the database as suggested before).
You should make it so people can copy a whole DAY
as a starting point for modification of their diet
on another day. COPYING a dozen foods takes a lot
of time.
Use cookies to make the DATE RANGE thing in food
logs "sticky" so it wont revert to TODAY every time
a change is made. Add an option to make it always
display TODAY, YESTERDAY+TODAY and 1 WEEK of logs.
MOVE the ADD TO FOOD LOG button DOWN so when
selecting the MEAL in "re-add a previous item" it
doesn't overlap the ADD TO FOOD LOG button.
Wow - thanks so much for all this feedback. It is very helpful!
We're already in the process of working on a lot of the suggestions you have requested, particularly with respect to logging and analyzing foods. That said, I'll share this message with the rest of the team so we can put some perspective on our plans. Thanks again!

So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
- Plot your weight curve
- Analyze the trend of your weight (see under Recent in the figure above)
- Determine the projected target date (see under Overall in the figure above)
