so.. i've recently joined corporate america as a smoothie king "team member". not the most glamorous of jobs but definitely looking forward to making some money (for college, not shopping, unfortunately). any other teens about to start a new job?
Not really a new job, but I'm starting at Wendy's tomorrow. I worked at a different one last summer, but this one is closer. I hate coming home smelling like bacon, but now I'm pretty much turned off by fast food so it's been good for me. =)
This summer season marks my third season at Dairy Queen. As glamorous as it may sound, ice cream can be a monster ;]
Throw in the under minimum wage, the over 40 hours a week, and you have your self no life and a lacking pay check.
It's nice to have something to do though. I'm really looking for a new teen-friendly job though, more pay please!
I'm still applying to different places...tomorrow I'm dropping off an app at Lifesource Natural Foods, but other than that I'll be hittin Starbucks, Dutch Bros, Dairy Queen, and a long list of pizza places. Probably other fast food places too...I'm getting desperate!
Lifesource Natural Foods sounds cool. As for the fast food and pizza places, stay away! The public is ungrateful and annoying lol (although there are some exceptions) :]
It was hard to stop eating everything in sight at DQ when I first started working there a few years ago, but now everything is repulsive and I only binge on a blizzard there once every three weeks or so. It would be tough to work at a fast food or pizza place and not eat all that food!
I used to work at a restaurant as a hostess, so I know how horrible the public can be! But, the more I'm around food the less I want it. Like totally serious, if I'm craving cheesecake all I have to do is look at a picture of it online and that's enough to kill my craving!
I know it works the same in person cause there was some yummy stuff at that restaurant..but just smelling it and seeing it was good enough! =P
i got my first job about 3 weeks ago!
i work at a pet shop right now but when school get out i am going to start working a local coffee shop also. during the summer i am going to work 2 jobs [gas prices are crazy!]
I'm 17 and I just got a job as a bank teller at the new bank in the town over (which is only about 5 minutes away from my house).
Well it's not actually open yet, but I start training in 2 days at a different branch! I'm so excited! It's my first REAL job! Plus I get payed for training! Who knew!?
I'm with you mewkiwi, gas prices suck and my(dads) truck only gets 10 mpg! Good news for me is my parents pay for gas! For now anyways...
Yeppp I've been working at Abercrombie & Fitch the last few weeks as a "model" (which is what they call their sales associates)...its actually a lot of fun- a great social environment for sure (though the music gets repetitive and sometimes is headache-triggering), but other than that and the not so fabulous wage (only $8/h), the discounts are nice and it sometimes doesn't even feel like work...
btw, just wanted to say that there are so many bad stereotypes about the company that i've heard from others when i said i work there- 1) no you don't have to wear ONLY A&F at the job, 2) they are in no way racist/sexist, 3) There is none of this 'you get fired if you get fat' business going on.
lifesource natural foods and coffee shops sound fun.. i wish i could've gotten a cooler job, but unfortunately beggers can't be choosers, right? i get 6.25/hr, haha, so 8 bucks sounds pretty damn good
I love Smoothie King. I get the Hi Pro Almond Mocha no turbinado like 2-3 times a week.
This is my third summer working for the same engineering firm here in Charlotte. The pay isn't bad ; ) When I'm not working here, I work for Wachovia Securities or my internet start-up.
oh...yeah $8 is minimum wage in california though...so i'm getting minimum wage...but oh well...after taxes are taken out it ends up being more like $7/h
i'm not a teen anymore, but now that it's summer i really get to up my hours at the job i recently started! i teach swimming lessons and lifeguard at an indoor (booooo) pool, which i haven't done since high school.
i love it. it's kind of exercise, usually fun, and pays ridiculously amazingly. enough, almost, for me to consider dropping this silly school thing and taking it on full time. almost.
You are all so lucky to have jobs! I've been searching desperately and have to get one before summer begins! Say a quick prayer for the job-searching, will you? :) And have fun at your new jobs, everyone!
and I work at the local mini-golf place/arcade
I am flying to Chicago in a few weeks and will be watching my cousins, Katie and Micheal (5 and 3 years old) for the week. I did it last summer, also...its a great way to spend time with my family and make 6.00 an hour! It adds up fast..... (Say 6 hours a day, and 5 days...and I am 180.00 richer:)
I am also pet-sitting and plant-sitting a lot...it is my siblings and my "business" and it tends to pay off. And I happen to love dogs, so doesn't that work out well?
I know these aren't real "jobs", like where you fill out an application, but I'm too young for those.
I wouldn't complain all you $8/hour people. I'm sixteen, so the Illinois minimum wage ($7.50) supposedly doesn't apply to me. Still getting $7/hour...after THREE years...stupid bosses.
Gah! Ridiculous!
Minimun Wage here is $5.85. :(
but yeah, then there are those days you really just don't wanna go into work. ugh. I have to work today actually, I'm looking forward to it though.
but apparently many people have never heard of Rita's, which surprised me for some reason.
