Summer Weight Loss Buddies?

Quote  |  Reply

Hey =)

I'm 16 years old, 5'6, and currently about 126 lbs. I've been a dancer all my life up until about 2 years ago. During that same time I began at a highschool which I hated and my mother got really sick. As a result I went from being a healthy 5'6 and 105 lbs of muscle to about 136 lbs in a year (I continued to eat like a dancer- unhealthy monstrous portions). I managed to lose a good ten pounds last year, yet I've suffered from depression and as a result have turned to binging. Well, as of next fall I'm transfering to a new highschool where all of my friends go and picking up dance again! Hopefully this will help me find myself again and go back to being the happy person I once was. I have a goal of hitting 110 lbs by the beginning of October- and in order to kick my binging habit and keep me motivated, it would be really helpful if I had a budddy! Anybody with me?

ok here is what my normal day looks like, as far as eating goes:

early morning--banana milkshake, or apple with nonfat yogurt. something light with protein in it before i run, so i have better stamina.

mid morning--one slice of wheat toast with thinly spread peanut butter and a little bit of all-natural honey. maybe a small glass of milk or yogurt if i didn't have it earlier--(i heard its REALLY important for teenage girls to get enough calcium and milk is supposed to help maintain a healthy weigh...or something like that lol)

lunch--subway sweet onion chicken teriyaki on wheat, toasted, no cheese, bell peppers, lettuce, onion, a little bit of lite mayo and sweet onion sause. (about 390cals) OR a salad with grilled chicken, carrots, cucumbers, onion, and lite dressing.

snack--Fiber ONE chocolate and oat bars---if you like the Chewy Granola Bars you will LOVE THESE. They are soooooo good, AND they have 9 grams of fiber to keep you satisfied. delish :) OR and apple or carrots or a serving of gram crackers

dinner---either small portions of what my family is having for dinner, or a BOCA Chi-kin pattie, cooked in the oven, and put on wheat toast with a little bit of BBQ sauce. Yum

something sweet---WATERMELON mmmm :) or a tablespoon or so of semi-sweet chocolate chips if i need a chocolate fix  ha ha.

So I read in Fitness that horomone fluctuations the week before your period can actually up your caloretic needs by up to 200cals, which explains why some women feel hungrier or have cravings right before that wonderful time of the month...woohoo....

Has anyone tried any good meal replacement bars or anything like that?? By the way i really like this idea of having summer weigh loss buddies :) it keeps me motivated and reassured that people have similar goals!!!

Hello all!! Happened to see this topic (was originally looking for a group of people in their twenties) but as I skimmed over a few of the posts I was just curious to see what sort of builds you all have given that  there are teens on here of my height (5'7) who are trying to get down to 110!!!!! Seriously?????  Have you discussed your weight loss goals with your Doc yet as so they can determine a healthy wt for you? They take into account your body frame, muscle mass, BMI etc etc etc.  I decided to do a bit of toggling with the BMI calculator  using the above height and wt. This is what it spewed out....and it's pretty well what you're doc is gonna tell you before he/she smacks you upside the head hahaha (just teasin) In all seriousness though the doc or a registered dietician can help you co-ordinate a weight loss plan appropriate for your body type.  (FYI: If you ever decide to donate blood the "minimum" weight requirement is 110 and basically means that if you are clinically underweight there are risks to donating and that your blood may not be sufficient due to low iron resulting from malnourishment etc etc)

BMI Index Analysis

Based upon your current Body Mass Index (BMI) of 17.2, you are currently classed as underweight.

A healthy BMI for your gender and age is between 20 and 25 and a reasonable weight loss rate is 0.5-2 pounds a week.

(above BMI based on Height 5'7 and 110lbs)

I myself am 5'7 and 163lbs with a goal of reaching 140 (as discussed with my doc even though she advises me that loss to 145 would be more than enough) this is  a BMI of 21.9 (20-25 is healthy bmi weight) which means I might actually fit into a size 10 jean size WOOOT WOOOOT!!  I was a size 18 last year, ol shamu here was 220lbs to begin with.

The reason I'm writing this is because I see so many girls on the street who look so gaunt that I think they are going to pass out before I can run over with an emergency cheese burger. I also have a problem with clothing stores that make their threads so small that you'd swear they were made for children...like seriously ...size "00" you gotta be kidding me!! I thought size zero was disgusting enough then I saw that!!  If you don't believe me on the size issue I encourage you to compare a ROXY tshirt size to the same size from a clothing store geared for middle aged ladies..yeah they are hid-eeeeeeeee-ous but trying it on for size will give you an indicator about what the real sizes are. I think its pretty sad that after a loss of 60lbs that the only thing that fits me in Pacific Sun is the perfume and the shoes..Their loss (financially) as far as I'm concerned..I'd drop 80 bones for a hoodie if I could find one that fit me!!!  :( Pretty sad what your age group has to deal with eh?  Oh well I don't really care too  much about that anyways because I've been trying to achieve a healthy weight to prevent future problems (heart and diabetes probs in the family) and to feel better about myself...even though I am super smokin hawt as it is ;)!  Trust me...it's sooo not to get the guys because if that were the case I would probably be content at the weight I am now....Tried and tested ladies, men prefer broads with a lot of personality (and some cushion) over a woman with protruding bones any day of the week.  I hope you don't  think I am raining on your parade because that really wasn't my intentions...I am just hoping that you are choosing a realistic healthy weight loss goals and that you are doing it for you and you alone!!

Much Love

Alright! Weigh-ins tomorrow. :) I'm excited, I splurged this past weekend and haven't step foot on a scale since then, so I'm looking forward to tomorrow. I'm thinking of upping my calories from 1400-1600 to about 1800. What do you guys think?

I'm a bit nervous because of the weigh-in tomorrow! :(   I know I've been pretty good with sticking to the plan (so far), but at the same time I have this feeling that I will have gained. Just paranoia I guess! I'll tell you guys how it goes.

Hey! Yeah I'm kind of uneasy about weigh ins tomorrow too! I've been bloated for the last couple days and I have no clue why!

omgness - if you are active then you should definitely increase your cals, I did the same thing and I definitely feel much better. I'm hoping to see 126 tomorrow! Ok well, I have to go to dance - I hope we all see progress tomoroooww!!

i've read that horomones associated with PMS can cause you to retain sodium, causing your body to hold on to water to flush it out---thus causing bloating. maybe thats it?? do you eat a lot of salty stuff or seasonings??

oh my gosh! this group is amazing! I didn't know there were so many people with the same stats as me! how motivating is that? Sunshine I love howyou reward yourself with Stuff instead of Food, I really need to work on that because I so oftenly fall into the trap of "oh I had salad at lunch time, I can have a cookie for dinner!" I totally want to tone up before my beauty pageant in july and before i go to college in the fall. My short term goal before the pageant is 120 or 119 and then my long term goal before college is 115. here are my stats:

Weight: 126

Height: 5'5.5

I'm so excited!

hey!  I want to go back to school looking good.

Weight:  171 (bad, I know, but last Tuesday it was 186)

Age:  13

Height:  5'5

Female

This is wierd, but I'm really active, but I only gain weight.  I ran seven miles today and my weight went up.  I feel like crying.  This sucks.

you're a distance person? sweet me too :)

what does your normal day look like as far as eating goes?

i've noticed if i work out more, because i burn more calories i'm hungrier so there have been times i eat more and weight the same or gain even. you just gotta make sure you aren't cancelling out your work-out with what you eat ;)

wallcow - I know what you mean, I'm do long-distance running as well and often when I get back I'm so starving hungry I 'just have the one cookie' - you can guess where I'm going with this! But I find it helps if you have a bit of fruit (bananas are great) or just a small snack about 1/2 hour before you run, and then a snack afterwards, but that's just me. It does stop me from splurging though!
Anyway, I lost 1.6 kilos in the past 5 days  :)   v pleased

Sorry :|   I meant 1.2 kilos!

congratulations gwen!!! i weighed myself this morning---138lbs!!! 2.5lbs :) i've been trying eating just a little bit before and after i run, like a small smoothie or an apple. it really helps!!

hope everyone is going well! let me know how much you're lost this week!! best of luck :)

Congrats. My diet is going awfully. I'm 5'2 and 110 pounds. I went through a bad point in my life and was about 94 pounds. I decided to eat properly and gained about 10 pounds, that put me at 104 I was OK with that. I began to get really stressed, family problems, and just kept eating. So now for summer I wanna lose about 12 pounds and gain about 5 pounds of muscle. I would really like someone I could talk to everyday. Thanks! :)

Hey! :) so today is the last day of school!! :) and I reeallly want to go back looking good. I'm 5'6? I haven't had my height checked since my physical at the beginning of the school year so I'm just kind of guessing 5'6. I weight like 119-120 and I would love to get down to 115, or 110 if possible, but I'm going to be training fr cross country so with all the muscle I don't think I could weight 110, but it would be nice :P

I'm going to start training monday next week and I can't wait. I took my two weeks off and I'm totally ready to get rid of some fat and tone up. :) I'm probably going to start weights and abs and yoga and stuff this weekend and I really need to just do it!! I need to promise this to myself, and force myself to, even though I probably wont want to do it xP

oh, I'm 16, and going to be a junior next year, I really want to be good in cross country, and lose some of this fat xP

weigh-in: 126-127

ergh. i gained. but i really hope that's because of my calorie uppage. I'm kinda sad now... lol. oooh well, I'm still gonna try keep to my calorie level of 1600-1800 and see what happens.

Aw man I couldn't do my weigh in this morning because I was so busy getting ready for my exams today .. I will weigh in and measure tomorrow morning though.. I PROMISE haha good job you guys! and omgness trust me .. it is so worth it to eat more calories because your metabolism won't slow down & you will be able to eat more. This isn't a race!so don't worry if it isn't coming off right away! and i think the longer weight takes to lose.. the more likely you are to keep it off.

Personally, I've been making it a goal of mine to stay above 1600 calories .. and obviously I have more if I am more active. I'm really anxious to see how much I weigh tomorrow morning!

Hey! I've been looking for a group like this just to talk to and share tips and tricks with. I'm 5'7 and currently 122, looking to go down to about 118. Once I get to 118, it's all about toning up! On Monday, my cross country camp starts, so I'll be running at least 4-5 miles six days a week. I see that lots of you run for exercise too! My mom and I also take a pilates class every Saturday, which I love. Anyway, I started at 142 about two months ago, so I'm happy at 122, but 118 is at the rock bottom of my BMI range, so if it's still healthy, I'm there! Anyway, today is weigh in day, so here's my stats!

CW: 122

Measurements: 33, 26, 35

wallcow, that banana smoothie sounds awesome! Definitely making that tomorrow :]

So I weighed myself just to see where my weight was at this morning and it said 118! gah! I was so happy!!! :D I can't remember when the scale said 118 xP

I was so stoked I made myself to my weights and a little bit of abs that I probably would've otherwise dreaded doing... but I felt so hot this morning seeing that number xD

I don't know where the number came from... because I haven't been doing too much exercise during my two weeks off... possibly loss of muscle? but with keeping my eating under check when I start training... I think I'll be good ;) anyway.. I'm totally stoked :D

I like how this group does things by measurements! I want to join even though I missed the weigh in. I'm 4'11" 17 years old, 114.2 lbs at last weigh in (Wednesday)

My measurements are

bust: 31

waist: 25

hips: 35

My goal weight is 105 and my goal measurements are 31-23-33

Ok I'm going out to dinner tonight for Father's Day at a really nice restauraunt so I'm going to keep the rest of the day calorically low to make up for it. How does this sound

Breakfast: 1/2 cup kashi golean crunch with skim milk

Activity: 90 minutes at the gym. 20 minutes lunges, sqats, and assorted machines, 45 minutes cardio, 20 minutes abs. The other 5 minutes will be spent refilling my water bottle and everything.

Snack: a peach as soon as I get home

Lunch: 4 oz grilled chicken breast with salsa and a light and fit nonfat yogurt

Activity: Trip to the beach with family where I will probably go in the ocean and splash around and take a long walk. There's no way to log it on CC, but walking on sand is a lot more resistance.

Snack: Apple

And here's what I plan on ordering at dinner. There's a sushi bar so I'm going to get a salmon roll for an appetizer and of the 6 pieces I'll probably give away about 4. Then I'm going to get "Chilean Sea Bass in Miso Glaze" I don't think that sounds SO bad. Hopefully I'll come in with a 500 cal defecit at least.
