Really hot today, I went surfing today for almost 2 hours, kinda spent a lot of time chillin` on my board talking/yelling to friends. Got home, an hour later was leaving for work, looked at the back of my legs. FAR OUT. They are redder than red. And burning, like radiating heat.

Apart from moisturising and lots of vitamin E, anything else thats good for sunburn? Thankyou! (:

I don't know if this is good for a sunburn or the skin or not.  My husband uses Noxema skin cream for sensitive skin with moisturizers.  It's supposed to be used to clean your face, but he claims it takes the heat out.  He leaves it on a few minutes and then uses aloe.

I know your pain!

I am fair skinned, and manage to get the begeezus burned out of me every now and then.... more so when I was younger, and the sunblocks were not as good. 50 SPF rocks. And I am pastey pale and proud these days.

So here goes.

Aloe - is a miracle plant and ointment. Just make sure to get the good, 100 percent Aloe gel stuff at a natural foods place or something.

There are some after sun creams that are good too.

I have had custom creams from a pharmacist, and sometimes just taking an aspirin or ibuprofen for the pain is the only thing that you can do.

A treatment that a farmer in Scottland gave me once was putting plain yoghurt on a sun burn.... and just letting it sit there on the skin while you lie down. Now, this is pretty wacky but it really soothed this one terrible sunburn that I had. You just shower it off after a half hour or so - after it is coagulated and pretty gross.

It is so awesome that you surf. Please be careful about the sun. As a sailor and outdoorsy, sporty person, I know what a pain sun cream is but please be careful.

I have to say that both me and my brother have now had abnormal spots and cells removed from our arms and for my brother, his back.... and we are only in our thirties. It seems like most adults that I know, who were and are sporty outdoorsy types, have had a spot or two removed. Ozone anyone?

Good luck. I hope the sunburn goes away soon.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Aloe Vera is this jelly stuff that you can buy at basically any store, and they get it from cactus's. Whenever I get sunburn I put it on and not only does it get rid of it faster, but the pain goes away almost immediately. Hope that helps.

Aloe every time for any burn

Aloe is great for the skin, but doesn't always take the burning sensation away... for that, try a bath (not too cold, but not too hot-- more on the cool side) with some teabags or baking soda.  I've heard oatmeal can help too, but never tried it.  Same for milk.  Perhaps you could have oatmeal with milk for dinner and put the leftovers on your legs?  :)

You could come to my house and roll in the snow.

Aloe is the best for the skin.  The one thing I can reccommend is wearing polished silk.  It is the only fabric that does not irritate the skin when it is badly burned.  If you don't have a silk blouse in your closet you can go to your local thrift store and probably find one.  Good to keep on hand.

Thanks guys!

I have an aloe plant in my yard so I'll get some soon, and I've been moisturising heavily. Its gotten a lot better in colour, cooled down a lot but is peeling a tiny bit. Not my worst TG!

I might actually try the oatmeal one, I did an oatmeal face mask once, it was disgusting but my skin was sooooooo soft and smooth after! (:

For the pain you might want to go to your pharmacy and pick up a lidocaine spray.  It will numb the pain for a while.  It often comes with aloe in it, but I would still apply real aloe to the burn as well.
