Sunday night movie.. Forget the calories?

Well, tonight |'m going to the movies with some friends. And today, I was thinking of just going over my dietary intake for once tonight. I haven't done it in almost a month. And it would be good for me not to be so strict for once. Maybe.

Anyway, |'m going to see Pirates ||| (So excited!!) Anyway, they might buy some snacks to munch. Like popcorn and stuff..
 And I was wondering... How many calories are in one bag of theatre popcorn?
 Let's say the bag is 9 inches high, and about 7 across the top opening. About a medium popcorn.

0r how many calories are in 1 cup?

Any ideas?

I just don't want to go waaayy over in fat and stuff.


0r maybe I should screw all of this and just live for once and get fat and eat crap like everyone else. Just they won't get fat and I will. =[

there was just a topic like this a little while ago, and I think someone said that the average SMALL theatre popcorn has like 500 calories.  So good, but SO bad for you.

That being said, everyone is entitled to a cheat day every now and then . . . so long as you eat healthfully the rest of the day, and its only like a once a month thing, it won't be a big deal and it won't make you gain like 5 pounds . . . you just might not lose as much this week or you might maintain is all.  If your weigh in day is monday, maybe put it off until tuesday--the unhealthy food is going to have high sodium and stuff, and it'll screw with the number you see on the scale.
I guess all you can do is try it and see how you feel afterwards. It is possible and ok to do this once in a while. For me though, it's just not worth it. I mean, sure I might have a dessert or something once in a while but I don't go hog wild to where it turns into a binge. Sometimes you get into that mentality where it's "just one thing" then "well, I'll have another" to "might as well make a day of it" on to" and then you feel like crap. Even that probably wouldn't hurt but it sometimes becomes a habit and I think that's how people end up yo-yoing.

I personally cannot bring myself to pay those exhorbitant prices for a little bag of popcorn. It's too rapelike for me -- you get hit twice: in the wallet and in the butt (and thighs and stomach). :P
According to Hungry Girl it is about 900 calories and 60g of fat, yikes. Maybe if you share it with a few other people though it won't be so bad.

I try to take a non-counting day every week or two, just to see how I do at letting my body be my guide. I had one yesterday as a matter of fact. It's always scary for me, but it ends up being empowering in that I'm normally good on those days about listening to what my body tells me.

I don't know how I'd do with movie junk food, however. But, it is just one day. You're young;try to enjoy yourself. Life is going to involve movie popcorn every now and then. Just find a friend or two to share it with and get a big ol' diet soda.

Hey girl!  That was ME who said a small popcorn without butter has 500 calories in it.  Yep, sick I know.

I went to the movies last weekend, I bought my OWN poped popcorn, and a few packs of fruit leather.  Another time I went, I brought 100 calorie pack cheetos and ordered me a diet pepsi at the consession.

the movies are one of those places where you eat snacks and you can pull off a clean day by bringing 2 100 calorie snacks and getting a water or diet pepsi at concession and you dont have to mess up.

If you are going to GO over your calories, why not plan it a day where you eat a hamburger or something?  I mean really, 500 calories for popcorn without butter... you could eat a big mac.  :)

I'm gunna go see pirates today too! :) I think i'm going to bring me some cheese-its (100 cal pack) and a sliced apple. mmmm salty and sweet for under 200 cals <3
I wouldn't worry about it as long as you don't go overboard and eat like a whole bag yourself. But it's okay to have a treat.
The other night I saw Pirates and I ate a whole bag of fruit snacks and an Icee. I really regretted it because it was in the middle of the night and I shouldn't have ate that late. I didn't gain weight though, so I don't know.
If I know ahead of time that I'm going, then I will eat light that day, and then get a small popcorn (of course, with the butter!) and share it with 1 or 2 other people, so the damage is lessened.  However if it is a spontaneous thing, I might still get the popcorn, and just enjoy and figure it's one of those 'overage' days, which happens every once in a great while.  Life happens.  Enjoy it - and get back on the plan the minute you can.
When I go to the movies I allow for a treat (usually a Snickers bar) - which I get beforehand so that I'm not studying all the food options at the cinema! - and I buy a big diet coke, so that I'm not deprived of the ritual of buying something for the movie.

I am going to see POTC3 this afternoon with my son and husband. I bought sweets and chocolates for the stick figures, but i am taking cherries and baby carrots for myself. I will get a diet soda before we go in. I have only just started my diet and don't want to mess up already.

I also made sure i had a good lunch before we leave (mixed tense, i had lunch but we haven't left yet!), so i won't get hungry dring the (3 hour!!!) movie.

Hey...good luck with this, I take one day off every week. And I eat like a starved prisoner on that day, of whatever I want. And maybe I'm just really lucky but sometimes I weight myself the day after and I've actually lost weight or gained like half a pound at most. I think eating huge amounts once a week revs up your metabolism or something. But I also make sure to do lots of cardio on that day too to sort of even it out.

i actually was hold the LARGE bucket of popcorn but i was pretty proud of myself because i only ate 2 handfuls. and it also helped that my twin brother eats everything in sight and finished the rest of the bucket [except hes a STICK and can eat whatever he wants lol]

oh and i did have lunch before so that was very helpful. hopefully you can use this tip in the future bc im sure youve already seen POTC3 now. ;]

ohh and i have GOT to get the soundtrack and the dvd when it comes out!

Well, when I went, I got a medium popcorn, with REAL soda. Root Beer, my favorite soda drink.. It was like, 250 cals for one bottle. But I was like, "Whatever. |'m just going to enjoy myself and have a good time." And I did. =] I drank all the soda, and ate all the popcorn. When I got home I had about 1 1/2 cups worth of ice cream, and a couple pieces of New Zealand chocolate. Talk about a special treat! O_O Afterwards, when I went to bed, I decided it wasn't really worth it, feeling fat from the food. I didn't feel stuffed or anything. I had eaten normal "American" portions. But it was alot of calories. Too many.

So I don't think |'m going to do it again. But it was nice to know that I could eat like that f I wanted to. It's hard to explain.

But today was Memorial Day! I didn't really know the calories in the foods I ate I decided to be "normal" for the day, but with a rough guess, it was about 2,200-2,400. (I couldn't help myself to not try and count >.< )
 I didn't overeat, it was just high calorie foods. Like baked beans with brown sugar, steak, potato salad, corn, (salad) and chocolate cake. Yeah... So I jogged today and biked. I had a great time with my family at a local private lake.
 I went sunbathing in my bikini top and boxer shorts. It was hard for me to face myself, and to look down at my stomach, after what I had eaten the day before. I just wanted to say, "I give up. I look so fat and disgusting." But I didn't. And tomorrow |'m going to exercise and start counting. I have fresh determination! I can do this because |'m setting my mind to it! Anything is possible.

0h. .. And the movie was REALLY good. ....
I would avoid movie theatre popcorn at all costs...it's horrible horrible horrible! Just take a big bag and put something healthy in it or just buy some chocolate to snack on if you want to indulge a little.
