I use to eat sunflower seeds everyday When I was hungry through out the day it helped me alot to lose weight, do you think if I started eating them again they would help lose weight and quit smoking. but I think they would provide me with to much sodium.

Not only are they high in sodium, but they're high in calories and fat, too. It's heart healthy fat, so they're good for you, but frankly I don't see how they helped you lose weight to begin with. Lucky you!
The thing with sunflower seeds and nuts is that they are high in healthy fat and calories but they seem to keep you fuller longer. I personally can't snack on them because I go overboard with the portions. I would find healthier alternatives and maybe have sunflower seeds a couple times a week as a snack ;)
There are a lot of great nutrients in sunflower seeds. They also have fewer calories by weight than most other nuts and seeds. By all means, measure out a good amount (200 calories or so) and snack away - you could do a lot worse, even with the sodium content.
They're not high in sodium if you get them raw. Raw sunflower seeds are high in omega-3 fatty acids (good) and many amino acids.
You can snack on raw hulled sunflower seeds -- which are quite cheap, especially in bulk.
You can also use them in tons of yummy recipes, from herbed pate to chocolate cookies (ask me for recipes).
Sunflower seeds are very easy to sprout at home. If you eat the very young sprouts (i.e. before the greens show up), they're very high in amino acids and enzymes. If you eat them as long green sprouts, they're really delicious greens.

Eat nuts and seeds raw and without salt. The cooking and seasoning interferes with your body's natural appetite-limiting mechanism and makes it more likely you will eat more than you should.
Salt especially dehydrates, as we all know, and can cause an increase in appetite which is actually a sign of need for water. But usually while we are eating, we have a tendency to fulfill a water need by simply eating more. Obviously that doesn't help!

If you eat them with the shells they fill you up alot faster.
Well me and my son planted and sunflower in the spring and it is huge, and I was just thinking about baking them and eating them, I could put a low calorie salt sub on them while in the process of baking.
I sprinkle them on my salad rather than croutons... It is so good and I don't use very many at all.
My boyfriend started eating unshelled ones instead of the bags & bags of potato chips he normally eats. He's taking in a lot fewer calories & fat in his snacking.
Of course, he's currently in the middle of a 2-day 300+mile bike ride, so he can afford to eat quite a few more calories than most of us. Myself included.

You can also get roasted unsalted in shell or without shell sunflower seeds here . Not to mention sunflower seeds in any other shape or configuration, dressed all the way up or down, you'd like! They're great! PS: No, I don't work for them, just a very happy customer!
