Super hungry - want a huge lunch low on calories... suggestions?
I feel a cheat day coming on.
I ate really light the last two days (not feeling well) and today I have my appetite back. What I *want* to do is go buy a soup/sandwich and some kind of snack for after.... but I am assuming that would hit 800 calories. Not good.
Any ideas for something that I can eat... and eat... and eat... (thats not salad) that is still relatively ok for me?
TIA!
whenever i just wanna munch, i eat popcorn. it's low cal and has lots of fiber. :)
As a soup I make an oxo (stock) cube in a mug and top up with hot water, to vary the flavour ad a spoon of min sauce or a soup of tomato ketchup.
I'm in an office with limited options around me. So making something isn't really possible... its more what can I buy thats not that bad for me. lol
Another favourite is this Spinach Frittata... It doesn't look enormous on the plate for the 438 cals but it is incredibly filling and tasty. I serve it with some sweet chilli dipping sauce. Terrific.
Edited to say.... just saw the above post saying you're in the office.... I'd suggest getting hold of some salad leaves but then also a big packet of jumbo/tiger prawns and a small granary roll to eat it with. Prawns are very filling for not many cals and the fibre in the roll will keep you feeling full for ages....
i just had the same problem, it's cold and rainy here and i wanted something full of carbs and warm goodness. went into every restaurant on the street, and ended up at subway. footlong chicken breast on white bread with lots of veggies and a splash of sweet onion sauce...more sodium that i'd have cared for but it was only 650 calories and will hopefully do me for the day!
I went to one of the local fast food sandwich shops here - ended up getting a hoisin duck wrap - 433cal. Not too bad - I'm *kinda* full... would love to eat more but will have some water and deal.
My huge meal is really simple: 1 cup low fat or fat free cottage cheese (about 160 cals) and a package of frozen green beans with almonds, the kind you can steam in the microwave (love green beans). Fills me up until dinner for a total of around 280 cals.
My favorite fill me up meal might be too bland for some, but I love it. It's around 300-400cals but makes a MASSIVE bowl:
- 1 Serving Instant Brown Rice
- 1 Serving Morningstar Crumbles
- TONS (200-300g) of a frozen bag of red/green peppers with onions (or frozen bag for stir fry)
Mix all together in a big bowl. Microwave and enjoy!
Edit: Oops!! Just noticed you said that you were in an office. I'd go with a bag of popcorn and a sliced apple (apples always seem to fill me up)
I make a huge bowl of stir fry. Just take all your fave veggies and toss them in a HUGE pan with some teriyaki sauce and chicken if you want. mmmm. So stuffed for so little cals. It does digest kinda fast tho since it's mostly veggies :) But then you still have enough calories left over to snack.
This is what I am having for lunch today and it is filling
Half a whole grain pita-30 calories
1 cup of egg beaters with red pepper and sliced jalepanio-125 caloires
Baked sweet potato-about 120 calories
1/2 cup of fat free cottage cheese-80 calories
2 tomato slices-about 15-30 calories
I mix the egg beaters, peppers, tomato in the wrap
I mix the cottage cheese with the cut up baked sweet potato. It is soooo good. Might not sound good but try it.
I also stuff the wraps with tuna and pinto beans, black beans, navy beans or chicken or turkey breast.
McDonald's quarter pounder without cheese and side salad with Italian dressing - diet pop - less than 500 cals!
Feels like you are cheating, but you are not!
is there a supermarket near where u work? you could go get a back of baby carrots and some hummus. munchy goodness! otherwise, go for the mcdonalds thing. she's right: it feels like youR'e cheating, so you'll be full after and it's fill your craving, which if you don'T fill, you'll end up just eating way more
You kinda are cheating eating a quarter pounder... 19g of fat, 7g sat fat.... yikes!!!
Yeah - but if you are strictly counting cals - it fits!
cals in - cals out = deficit/overage
McDonald's??? Yikes. You're right if you are just counting calories that is one thing but if you are also in it for health not so good.
I feel a serious cheat day comin.....and since I'm just here for cals well that McDonald's doesn't sound so bad to me...to bad I wanna buy a whole pizza for myself 2morow or I'd have that too, a peach milkshake and a large order of fries......it might help with my slow metabolism since i've been at 1200 for a week lol just kidding....im havin' half of a cinnamon roll and whole milk for breakfast 2morow....seeing as how im 13 im okay with that.....but when i turn 20 or something like that i know it'll come back to haunt me but my mom says that i should have fun and be a kid that's also why im having bagel bites and doritos for lunch.....hey just being a kid lol
I agree with mcdonald's or something like that.I would not have the bun on the quarter pounder and have instead a shake or something if it fits in calorie wise. But I also agree with the person who said that is not healthy. I also understand wanting to cheat. Personally, I would save up my calories and eat a really good high carb meal at home and not blow it on fast food.
When I don't have the ability to cook I have a protein bar and an apple or some greek yogurt 0%. There is also a really decent trader joe's wrap chicken and pesto. It is not too bad and is pretty balanced. Trader joe's has a lot of options that would work but since you didn't mention it, I assume you don't have access to one? good luck!

Ooh i have a weird thing which i really like at lunch, and its very filling. It's like, two egg whites, scrambled or made like an 'omlette' in a pan with a small amount of butter, then in a toasted pitta with vegetables and whatever sauce you like (i like ketchup :). It's "weird" and can sometimes be a little gross, but on the whole it's satisfyingly tasty enough :) maybe to make it tastier one could use one whole egg with a white...but i dont like yolks much
Sounds good to me. I do something similar with egg beaters and taco sauce. Yummy.
