Super-Metabolism?

Quote  |  Reply

I have heard that some E.D. recoverers develop a sort of super-metabolism, in which their BMRs are raised to 3,000 calories and they have trouble keeping weight on. In my recovery I have experienced the exact opposite. In treatment I was told that I would have trouble gaining weight, and that eating 3,000 calories would lead to a gain of 1/2 to 1 pound per week. I gained 6.

Is there anyone out there with a super-metabolism? Was your metabolism fast before the E.D.?

Hey there, I think it's the complete opposite, since the body is still in starvation mode for a good amount of time after intervention it'll hang on to every extra calorie.  I continued to lose weight after my situation got landed on, but that was because I was still eating below what I should have been for my height and age even after increasing by a few hundred calories.  I believe my metabolism is permanently altered.  I can't eat above 1200 calories for more than a week because I gain weight.  I am at a normal BMI right now but I still can't eat as much as my peers do.  This disorder really messes with your metabolism, but if you are increasing that much that quickly I think your body will realize very soon that it is not starving anymore and calm down, balancing you out to a healthy, proper weight and body composition.  I think I messed up a bit by not increasing up to above 1200 after intervention.  So good for you!

Good luck!  It's great you're in recovery :)  All your life is ahead

hi

i think what your reffering to is hyperthyroidism. its when the metabolism increases its rate.

during one of my attempts of recovery 6 months ago i experienced this where i was having up to at least 3 protein shakes a day on top of my meal plan and still not gaining weight. Have a blood tests to check out if you have the opposite to this (hypothyroidism) because it can lead to a serious medical condition.

my metabolism slowed down naturally after a while ( much to my disappointment) and my ed got worse

hope that helps
