Super Skinny Me on BBC

Quote  |  Reply

Umm mods feel free to move this if you think it's not appropriate. I just saw a documentary on BBC called "Super Skinny Me". It was about two journalists going on these extreme diets. It was some scary stuff. By the end of experiment they have developed eating disorders, and looked very sickly. A good warning of what can happen when diet is taken too far.

The documentary is available on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gY9LLMTCjwg

I watched the video.  It would have seemed "unbelievable" in some aspects to me, except that I found out that I could make myself (I am averaging consuming 3000 calories a day this month) enjoy not eating very much and exercising a lot.  I usually think of women in their 20's who try these insane diets, but I suspect there are all age of men and women who also do outrageous dieting things, too.  There is something incredibly dangerous about how we can manipulate our bodies by first manipulating our minds.

Im going to check this out on youtube! Thanks, Im sure it'll put dieting in perspective.

very interesting... thanks for the link

I just watched it on youtube... Absolutely crazy. I really worried about Kate for a while there.. It seemed like a downward spiral.

i some how randomly caught it on tv.. it made me a little sick but its an eye opener to a lot of people !

The thing i learned from this video that i can become size 00 in 5 weeks

it is really encourages me to do like them i mean louse does not seem anarxioc at all actually she looks better in the after than before

sara1222, I have the feeling that you only saw what you wanted to see. What I saw was two women who lost weight in a very unhealthy way and who would probably never again have been able to eat normally if they tried to maintain this weight. They would have had to stay on their ridiculous diets and would have probably lost their jobs, friends and self esteem on the way. They would have probably ended up in clinics for eating disorders, or worse. That is what I saw, not two role models.

Yeah and have no energy, social life, develop an eating disorder and then gain half the weight back in the first week they began eating again. Grow up and stop thinking everyone is meant to be a size 00 - playing games with your weight will never benefit you.

I saw this program, and I really don't think they should have aired it because I think 50% of the people will miss the point and just think they can lose 5 dress sizes and 15lbs in 5 weeks. Why diet for a year when you can get it over with in 5?

I think to show how miserable crash dieting is. Plus, at the end of the show, they had both gained about half the weight back. Not to mention that some of the weight they lost would be water weight anyway.

you missed the entire point of the documentary

why do you want to be a size 0? why do you want to do so much harm to your body to be a size 0? what is so great to you about being a size 0 rather than being healthy and having a long and happy life? why do we as women place so much value on our weight and so little value in everything else we could accomplish that in the end can help us instead of hurt us?

I attempted to watch the video and couldn't get passed 5 mins. I just don't want to see that, it's too disturbing to me.
