Super Skinny Me

Quote  |  Reply

I watched this show on BBC last night called "super skinny  me." It was about 2 journalist women who went on extreme diets to go from a 'average' size 12 (8 in USA) to a size 4 (0 in USA). They did it with diets that some celebrities have used. One of the girls ate only watercress soup for a week. That girl reached her goal and the other one who got down to a US size 2 was advised to stop because she was starting to show starting signs of bulimia. Both girls were grossed out by the extreme diets and said they would never, ever consider living like this again. I just wondered if anyone else saw it and had an opinions on it. Oh and the ending was the best, the girl who reached her goal binged on cake the moment after she got her jeans on.

I saw it on BBC on demand :)

What i noticed was that the girl who did actually eat and exericse lost all the weight

while the one who didnt eat & mostly exercised almost suffered from an ED
did not watch the show but you gave a pretty good description of it...so...they didnt want to stay at that wieght? doesnt sound like they felt good about themselves cause they dieted the hard way or extreme way so guess it was just a thing they tryed and really dont want to stay at that wieght. doesnt sound healthy just eating one thing and that was it. i always think that when on a diet...diet healthy but dont overdo it.
I didn't watch it but my friend told me about it. I really don't understand how some celebrities could be so desperate for a thin body that they could torture themselves like that. I did a very extreme diet last year to lose weight and I was miserable. I had no energy, my mood was terrible, and I just felt so sick. It's funny how people lose weight to look "healthy" but some people make themselves sick trying to look "healthy."

I found an article written about one of those girls, the one who was starting show ED signs. From the pictures, she did lose the weight though.

I wish I could find that show somewhere so I could watch it. I'm curious.

Oh... I just saw the picture of the other girl, both of them actually at the channel 4 website

I didn't like Louise's stomach in the before, but it went from needing some definition to completely weird and simply gone in her after. Sadly, Kate, who I believe is the one the OP describes as showing ED signs ended up looking better than Louise in the after. I do still believe overall their body looked better in the before - the arms and legs, but the stomach... grrr damn the mind set about flat stomachs =|

on BBC last night? i didnt even see it advertised. was it the one with Louise Nerding-Rednap and the crazy tall dark haired girl?

I think i saw this 6 months ago. Bless those poor girls they both hated it, luckily they picked journalists/celebrities that are pretty grounded and have a good self image otherwise they would have got caught up int he whole thing
I love the BBC- have you ever watched "You are what you eat"? It's fantastic- it shows people who are eating serious crap and makes them evaluate it.
I love that show "you are what you eat"!  its so amazing to see all the food people eat in a week layed out on the table
I watched SSM on bbc on demand too. it was crazy....i enjoyed watching it.
i love you are what you eat, but gillian is mad and shes haggard! doing pretty well for herself though, now has a selection of diet/super foods in most supermarkets over here and her books are selling in the millions, one of which i was given for christmas and read within a day.

I guess she preches good honest advice, eat as much as you want but make sure its fresh fruit, veg, nuts, grains and fish. Shes veggie so against meat and dairy but she does accept that people will eat it occassionally and her maintaince suggestion is 80% healthy and 20% treats.
Interesting to read the article and see how she went down the gurgler so quickly! Even though she knew what was happening to her, she was sucked into the ED vortex anyway... thank goodness she had somebody to help her quit  before it was too late!

For me this program is totaly awful.

When I was youger I had anorexia and bulimia, and now I have a big problem with the food. I suffer anxiaety. In this moment I am overweight and I am fighting to reduce 10 kilos.

It is sad to see how the world manipulates the people and play with the desperation of the people.

Regards from Spain Wink

Hmmm Ill have to check it out

I didn't see the show but I just looked at the pictures from the links posted in one of the above posts and I didn't really see a big difference in the before and after pictures in either of the girls.  I mean, there's a little difference in both of them (maybe a few lbs difference on each) but nothing that's SUPER, SUPER noticable.

sounds interesting... i have to watch it sometime

am i the only one who actually likes how she looks in her before pic? look.. website

I thought it was great. It's nice to see a show dedicated to showing all the negatives to those extreme diets constantly being shoved at girls. I didn't get why they used the 'raw food' diet in the doc, though. It was 1200 cal a day - not extreme at all. It's just reaching 1200 cal a day on raw food may be difficult for some people (if they don't know how to go about it).

And I thought both the girls looked great before and the one who didn't start to develop an ED looked good after. The other woman looked simply starved and unhealthy to me in the after pic, though.

am i the only one who is very skeptical of this?  i didn't see any "before" measurements or height/pounds.

the before pictures don't look like a size US 8.  they look about the same as me and i'm closer to a size 2.

they look like they went down maybe 2 dress sizes, maybe 4 at the most...definately not 8 sizes...

They did give both height and weight in the doc, but I don't think it's on the websites. Did you watch it?

Hmm... do you mean their after pictures look about the same as you?

8 sizes sound like a lot but when you look at it in inches... going from a size 8 to a 0 is a decrease of about 4in. Looking at the pictures... it does not seem unbelievable that they lost 4 inches in their waist, 4 in the hips and 4 in the bust, especially the first girl Kate.

Edit: double post.
Going from a size 8 to a size 0 is only 4 sizes, not 8.  Sizes in women's clothing is measured in even numbers so starting from a size 8 it would go - 6 - 4 - 2 - 0.

I also thought they looked great before they lost weight.  Curvy and womanly.  Now they just look like boys with boobs.
