hi all, I am looking for some different ideas for dessert and / or supper (not sure if these are the same thing in the order of meals or does one come after the other?)
I have gotten comfortable with eating things like chocolate bars and ice cream but I would like to have a few other options to go with so was just wondering what others have?
I usually have a pretty big dinner (my bf loves big portions!) so am looking for something that is not hugely bulky/filling but still gives me the calories. I would also like to incorporate some 'healthier' foods now that I am putting on the weight consistently so I am not eating chocolate / ice cream all the time.
hi erin-
well, regardless of putting weight on consistantly, u still have a ways to go and ppl who do not need to gain weight eat treats everyday. so if u like ur ice cream+chocolate, have it.
variations could be an ice cream sundae w/whipped cream, nuts, chocolate syrup...
different chocolates, peice of cake, cookies...
a PB+J sandwich, a bagel w/a topping, yogurt w/granola, a milkshake, anything u want, make it a 2nd helping of dinner of u want.
everyone eats treats tho and gaining weight shouldnt make it that u want to stop including them in ur diet, even at a healthy weight u can still eat all of the above.
hey agru - thanks for being the voice of reason as always! :)
I am comfortable with eating ice cream and chocolate when I want it and don't so much see them as treat foods anymore but in line with working on the flexibility in what I eat day to day I want to mix up my options a bit.
I also am wanting to make sure I incorporate fruit more into my diet but maybe that just means having a banana split or fruit salad with yoghurt and nuts instead!
All your suggestions are great though - thanks!
Some other things to try if you'd like to incorporate fruit...
An apple baked with brown sugar and topped with whipped cream and nuts or granola
A peach with caramel sauce and sunflower seeds on top heated in the microwave
You can get butterscotch chips and melt them and use it as a dip with fresh fruit
How about caramel apples and roll them in different nuts and use different apple varieties.
You can have chocolate covered banana
Have a wrap with peanut butter, apples, and honey
Hmmm..pineapples and mangoes with regular yogurt and nuts
Make a smoothie with yogurt, fruit, and nutella or peanut butter
Have fruit crisps which would give you a chance to experiment with recipes.
first of all well done on working so hard. remember its ok to eat what you like have you tried angel delight ? banana and cusard , howabout somrthing like cheesecake or trifleyou can buy individual pots or yogurt , or somrthing like a custart tart or a scone and jam or vienetta or artic roll. for supper i tend to eay cereal and hot milk or biscuit or carrot cake
chrissy, thanks so much for those ideas! they sound awesome! :)
yeah thanks guys - looks like i need to go to the shops!
full-fat greek yogurt with honey & walnuts
a small plate of cheese, nuts, and dried fruit, or cheese, crackers, and jam
home-made muffins or cake; you can make them both calorie-dense and healthy by including things like wheat germ, dried fruit, and nuts
What about a bowl of rice pudding or custard? You could then add your fruit to that, its quite nice with something like stewed apples and cinnamon or maybe a dollop of jam
great suggestions from all - I especially like the ones that incorporate fruit and will factor these in! :)
Hey!
Often, I'm too full from a big dinner to be that interested in dessert as such, so I'd rather have a big snack later when I have the room... it evens out calorie wise!
Some later snacks I've enjoyed are your standard dessert opts like chocolate bars and ice cream but also PBJ or toast and PB, cheese and crackers with some fruit, big bowl of yoghurt and honey, cereal, leftovers, high cal milkshake, tortilla chips and salsa/cream cheese/hummus, glass of wine with snacks, kettle chips, baked fruit, pie/crumble/tarts, cheesecake, Nutella and banana with tall glass of wholemilk, ect ect x
My favourite fruit desserts are apple, apple/berry or apple/peach crumbles with custard. Apple and berry pies are also awesome. You can also put bananas or pears into bread and butter puddings.
These are good suggestions. I have one. Take a banana and put on wax paper. Drizzle melted pb on it and roll in granola. Then freeze. You can do this with yogurt instead of pb as well
