If you are trying to gain weight, why do you have to wait 'til morning to eat again?  There is nothing wrong with having a snack before bed.

Personally, I tend to have some of the most satisfying/fat concentrated foods at supper. I'll usually have some form of meat or beans, along with some veggies, and a grain. It can be something like spaghetti with a very meaty sauce with a salad - olive oil added of course ;). Or maybe a decent sized piece of steak or chicken breast with sauteed veggies and rice. There's a billion more combos out there. Those are just the 2 that immediately came to mind. Don't be afraid to experiment around! It's really a lot of fun. :)

high fat = satisfied for longer
high protein = full for longer
high calorie = prolonged energy
high fiber = full for longer

that would be like...

  • whole grain pasta or brown rice with added lots of added oil, veggies (edemame or beans have protein, olives have fat), and meat or soy meat, maybe cheese.
  • omelet with whole eggs, cheese, and veggies. add sour cream/guacamole/salsa if you like, or meat/soy meat, or even pasta or or beans.
  • baked potato (preferably with the skin) with cheese/cottage cheese/sour cream/butter, meat or soy meat, and lots of veggies.
  • hearty soup with lots of olive oil, veggies, whole grain noodles (or beans/rice/pasta/bread/crackers work), and meat/soy meat. serve with bread and butter.

Couldn't have said it better myself! Those are some fantastic ideas!

If you eat fish... a HUGE piece of salmon!! (or mackerel or sardines for that matter)... These are delicious foods as well as nutrient rich AND calorie dense in large quantities!

Eat whatever you feel like that's substantial enough to get you through the night. May I suggest a banana split... Laughing

thanks everyone the banana split looks most appealing. im really not sure i could stomach fish before bedtime

jill i think you misunderstood what i said i always have supper just was unsure what is best to eat

If it's supper, get all your food groups and then have dessert to help you with the weight gain.

When you want to feel satisfied AND have enough calories to gain, it's probably best to have all three food groups, like a mini meal!

You could try:

Generous portion of cereal (a mix is nice) with milk (preferably whole). Also if you liked you could sprinkle with nuts and dried fruit/ sliced banana.

In fact I think bananas are good for sleep as they contain tryptophan!

... Oat cakes with cream cheese, a banana

Oat porridge made with milk and sprinkled with brown sugar

Crackers with cheese, grapes

Bowl of yoghurt with muesli

Leftovers from dinner

Ice cream and fruit

Toast with butter and marmite, glass of milk

smoothie made with yoghurt and oats blended in

Cup of soup with crackers and cream cheese

Sandwich with any filling you like

I would suggest Peanut butter on something but I'm pretty sure you don't really like it! xx

thanks alot smash grt suggestions h x
