supper that's big but low cal?

Quote  |  Reply

I am starving today, so I've been eating constantly.
I have about 200 calories left for supper later tonight.

Does anyone have a recipe that will feed me a lot of food?

I have a bunch of mashed zucchini salad left over from lunch, but it's not that exciting two meals in a row.

Salad is good:  lots of lettuce, one small tomato, chopped celery, a couple of boiled, chopped egg whites, maybe an ounce or so of ham, 1/2 an ounce of low-fat cheese shreds, a few chopped olives, 1/4 cup of canned (rinsed and drained, any variety) beans or legumes, fresh chopped broccoli, bell peppers, etc. and balsamic or red wine vinegar as the dressing.  Maybe not all at once on the same salad, but those are ingredients I use when needing lots of "bang" for my calorie buck.  I use one ounce of black forest ham cut into tiny squares, which cuts the "twang" of the vinegar for me.  The whole bag of Dole Hearts of Romaine has like 50 calories and it keeps me chomping away for a long time!  (LOL - yes, I have eaten the whole bag by myself!!!!)  All the satisfaction, none of the guilt.  Bon apetit!

I had the same problem today, except I only have 100 calories left, this is what I'm having:

1/4 Block of Tofu cooked with

1/2 cup Mushrooms

1/2 cup broccoli

And then 2 cups of salad. Which is around 100. Asparagus is miracle food, the most I can eat is around 8 stocks (when I'm hungry) and that's only 26 calories!

Whole grain bread is also very filling.

Good luck!

Thank you!  That sounds quite delicious.  I'm out of tofu though, so I might just load up on mushrooms.

Hearts of Romaine!  If I happen to go shopping before supper tonight, I may grab a bag of that and eat it with my mushrooms and broccoli.  Thank you!

Luckily I despise salad dressings, I'm a pescatarian and I'm lactose intolerant so I cannot have cheese, so that keeps my salads way down in calories.

Last night I had the same problem, I scrambled two servings of egg whites and ate a half cup of pinto beans (premade the night before with salsa). Protein, fiber, a little carbs and very filling.

edited to say it was 170 kcal

Stir fry!  A ton of veggies with some teriyaki, ginger, or soy sauce with some shrimp or tofu for protein.  Something like THIS gives you a lot of volume for about 200 calories.

I sometimes get Campbell's Chunky Savory Vegetable soup.  The whole can has 220 calories, and it's a lot of soup and really filling.  Has a good large bit of sodium, but I always stop by a gas station and get those gigantic 65 oz. cups and fill it up with water or diet coke or something.

All of this sounds so great x3

lynnlette:  that looks absolutely wonderful.  Next time I buy shrimp I'll make it!

c_jamie: go to recipes and type in Mashed Zucchini Salad =3

Lentils!

There's a good recipe at allrecipes that I use sometimes. You really don't need all the oil that it calls for, 2 tablespoons would probably be fine for the whole recipe. Also, the recipe says that it makes four servings, but in my opinion, it's more like 8+ servings because lentils are so filling. Your colon would not thank you if you ate 1/4 of what this comes out as. It's good with fat free sour cream on top and some other sauteed veggies too.

I'm jsut like you! I am also a lactose-intolerant pescatarian. And instead of salad dressing i use balsamic vinegar. It's low in calories but packs a punch. For a big salad I ususally only use half a tablespoon which is only about 10 calories :)

Just a thought, when I'm having one of these days, I try to eat between my recommended intake and what I actually burn (maintenance) even if I go over my recommended. As long as you don't eat more than you burn, you won't gain. :-)

if you like cucumbers put as many as you can in a salad because no only are they very low in cals they fill you up fast because they are full of water.
