I have been using adapets. (sp) Doctor perscribed.
I use supplements for nutrient needs, if I'm reducing my intake of food and am worried about not getting enough vitamins/minerals. Also, I'll have low calorie protein shakes instead of meals so I'm not hungry/starving.
If you have cravings, you need to examine your diet. Perhaps you have set your goal to something too difficult or drastic, and instead need to work towards it. Sometimes you can't jump right in.
On the other hand, if your intake goal makes sense, I think it is better to rely on willpower than prescription medications or other supplements to control metabolism and cravings. Some of the over-the-counter stuff can have side effects, and no real effect at all.
I try to make cravings into a mental game, mind over matter. I know that my mind is stronger than my body is, and that is the goal. We want to use our minds to shape our bodies. So I try to maintain control, and I take pride it in. I love donuts, a lot. But I haven't had one in over a year. Sure, I want one, but if I have on, then I lose. I set a goal, and I'm not letting myself be outsmarted by a donut. It is about willpower, and I take pride when I reach a goal without the need for medication or things like that. Cravings are ALWAYS going to occur, even after you lose weight. But who wants to have to take a pill to control them for the rest of your life.
Make a game of it. I think of it like a war, me vs donuts. And if I eat one, they win. And at first it is hard, but after a while, it gets easier. Right now, I can have a donut in front of me and I don't even want it. I know that it has nothing useful in it for me, and lots of things that my body doesn't need. So I don't even want it anymore. I now think in terms of what the food can do for me in terms of health and nutrients, not in terms of taste. The donut is not satisfying anymore, and I don't crave it. This is another mental game. Don't think in taste, think in usefulness.
