SUPPORT GROUP/CHALLENGE for 20-somethings!

Quote  |  Reply

This is a now CLOSED support group for 20-somethings looking to loose 20+ pounds over the next several months.  We will have our weigh-in closing date on Monday (meaning if you would like your weigh in to be counted for the week the posting should be made by midnight on Monday night). We also will have weekly challenges for whoever wants to participate!  Which I believe should start on Mondays unless anyone thinks otherwise.

I have posted all of the stats as a Journal entry under my name, and will post an abbreviated version below which I will update weekly. I still believe the important part of this group is posting and helping each other on a consistent basis, so if you don't want to do the weigh in that's fine, you just need to be actively participating in the group by posting. At this point looking at everyones goals I think that this group should go at least until the end of the summer (last weigh-in 9/1/08) and then we can choose if we'd like to continue.  I also think those of us who are committing to the weekly weigh-ins should maybe set mini-goals for ourselves.  Something like the end of May and middle of July may be good.

Future Weigh-ins should be posted like this:

LW (Weight last week): ***

CW (Current Weight): ***

Just to make it easier for me to find and post. Let me also note that because of the nature of this group (it's size and it's purpose) the only thing that I feel needs to be steady in this group is people being consistant.  It is totally fine if you choose to not weigh in, or if you are busy for a few days or are going on vacation, but the main purpose of this group is to have a support group, and I don't want the group to be defunct by the end of the month because everyone has forgotten about it or has just given up (which this group should help anyone from doing!).  I have done it myself, joined a group and fallen behind, and just forgotten about it, but since this group is so small to begin with, it would be pretty pointless if that happened.  So the one rule that I feel should be in place is that you need to check in at least weekly, and if you aren't going to be able to just place a post saying that you will be gone for awhile.   If you are gone for more than a week I'll send you a message seeing how you are doing, because I am here to help :)  But if anyone vanishes for over 2 weeks your spot will be open for someone else to take.  I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, I just feel that it's the only way to guarantee that everyone is committed.

Please let me know if there are any mistakes in my postings of your stats.

Saturday I walked most of the day through varied terrain at a renaissance festival in Colorado.

Is this the Ren Fest in Larkspur, CO? I live right by there! =)

Yes it would be the one in Larkspur.  I live in Denver but grew up in Franktown.  I'm a CO native.  Nice to know I have a fellow CC in the area.

How funny! I lived in Larkspur for a few years and then moved to Ft. Collins for college... and now I'm in Denver, too.  ;)  Small world!

I'm not sure how I should go about updating the weights, if I should wait for everyone to weigh in this week or just go ahead and post the stats for last week and wait until next week to do another formal weigh-in because of the holiday weekend, etc. Also going out a little bit into the future, because of my move and the end of summer crazyness that I think we all experience I'm thinking we should set an "end date" for this group of either August 6th or 13th. I am totally willing to (actually am looking forward to) starting something back up in early September after things calm down a bit, but after being away a lot lately I don't feel like it is fair to everyone involved for me to just take off for a month again. It will also give you guys an option if you want to continue in the group or not. Just thought I'd put that out there sooner than later. Glad to be back!

I think we should keep the group going without any formal weigh ins until September. Or we could start a new thread with another moderator to update the weight ins.

I really would hate for the group to go on "vacation" and things fall apart. I know I could certainly use some support for the remainder of the summer. We will be moving and settling in to a completely new area.

HTH

Either of these options would work for me, so it's up to you guys.

Consistency has been really difficult for me lately here and with life in general.  There is so much changing around me and I am doing my best to keep this group and my food and exercise routine a priority.  While it may not be working as good as it should be I feel like I am doing my best and that is certainly an improvement over every other time I have attempted weight loss.  Usually right about now is when my plan goes to s***, pardon the expression.  So I will update all the weights this wednesday, and will combine the numbers for those of you who choose to do the other weigh-in.

How is everyone that has plans to move doing?  Or anyone that has moved recently, how did you handle it?  The actual moving, the new furniture, the new city, getting yourself situated?  Did your eating remain healthy or was it tough at first?

When I moved in with my boyfriend in January, I found it really difficult to eat right.  It was easier to eat take-out or whatever was easy.  Thats what really made me want to lose weight, bc I wasn't careful and i ended up gaining almost 10 pounds in the month(s) after we moved.  It sucked, bc I did really good through all of the holidays leading up to the end of the year, then it all went kablewy after that.  Also, my boyfriend doesn't cook, so when i wouldn't get home from work until almost 8, it was easier to just have him pick something up when I didn't feel like making dinner.  Also, I find that if I keep mostly healthy food in the house, I don't have as big a problem when we do get take-out bc I don't want to blow all of my healthy eating out the window.

I know it's scary, but my problem was that I was so focused on everything else in the house with the move and getting furniture and getting things in order, that I stopped paying attention to eating healthy.  SO my adivce would be to just keep watching what you're eating.  If you have to go the easy route of ordering food, just aim for the healthier options.  Also, my boyfriend is a late night snacker and i find that if I give my self a time to be the time I don't eat  later than (usually 8 or 9), i find that I don't reach for snacks after that time.

I hope any of this helps.

Like all of theo ther weekends this summer ......I ruined this past weekend. Well it was yesterday I dropped the ball.  My DP's coworkers held a Going Away/Birth Day party and there was beer, chips, hot dogs, and CAKE!!!  I allowed it for myself. My DP and I are on a tight budget the next 4 or 5 weeks.  My Diet is set up to two weeks in advance because we have to make $40/wk stretch for 5 people. SO how am I handling the move...going broke.!!!  Apparently if you dn't have any money it makes eating healthy, real easy.  LOL.

Well first I'll give my weigh in because it is a good habit.

(which makes me happy that I've kept off my first ten for a while now)

About moving and how to cope.  I think I got off easy when my husband and I moved into our first house last year.  While packing I can't quite remember how we did with the food, but it was only about 2.5wks that we spent specifically focusing on the move.  The day of the move we recruited any and all family members in the area.  The result was a very swift move in the morning and the afternoon was spent setting up the major furniture pieces.  My darling, amazing mother decided that her purpose for the afternoon was to unpack and set up the kitchen.  Because of her efforts we were settled in enough that the eating/cooking portion of life was never interrupted.  Now granted I ended up moving some things around as I sorted out how I really wanted the kitchen set up, but that happened over time.  I wasn't focused on eating balanced meals so I don't remember how well/poorly we did overall but I don't remember too much of ain interruption from our normal eating habits.

In contrast, I had a friend we helped move a couple months ago and they had appliances to still purchase, they were retiling the floor.  Basically overall the kithen was mainly unusable making eating consistantly a major challenge.  The friend ended eating at our place a few times just to escape the mess and frustration. it was 2months before their kitchen was fully functional.

Hey Everyone-

Well, my weekend wasn't too great weight loss wise-no loss again, my body just seems to want to stay where it is!  i did do alot of dancing because we had practices and a performance, but i could have eaten better. I am going on vacation to FL for a week and am hoping that at least i'll get some swimming in everyday! Have a good week everyone. =)

Guh.  I've been eating like crap lately.  :(

Funshine, where are you going in Florida?  If you're going swimming, go early in the day, because it rains at around 3 pm every day in the summer in Tampa and Orlando.  (Sunshine state, my butt!)  Pack an umbrella :-p

I'm a little confused, is everyone stopping giving weigh-ins already?  I thought we agreed upon another couple weeks...but it is fine if you guys don't want to do that it's totally fine, I just want to make it clear.

I'm in the same spot as most of you.  I think I've lost about half a pound (I'm about 164.4 AGAIN) I just can't get past that exact number.  It gets a little annoying after awhile!  But I do know that there is more I can do to improve my weight loss if I have a second to breathe!  I'm just trying to do my best for the time being!  Hope everyone is having a good week.

O the confusion. But I will weight in. I am actually below 170 pounds. :) I have recently started running again and will be working out with my Step daughter. I am helping get her in shape for her first every Volley Ball Try Outs. Since I didn't make the 4th of July 5K run, I plan on doing a Labor day 5K run. I am not going to be logging calories over the next week or so. I want have the internet but I will be practicing portion control. Its funny now i can look at certain amounts of food and guess the weight. I am right about 90% of the time about its weight. :). We are almost finished packing our house. Today is my DP's last day of work. Here's a frightening thought, he is technically unemployed until Tuesday morning at 8AM.

Where is everyone?  Anyone here ever done slim in 6?

My weekend was only moderately good regarding food choices.  I ate out for nearly every meal, but tried to at least be moderately good.  At a burger place I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with avocado & swiss.  At Village Inn I ordered off their light menu and gave the bacon to my husband, I also used the sugar-free syrup.  So that is better generally than not trying to be conscience.  I am still struggling with how to live and eat healthy while having the freedom to socialize and go to activities that I love.

Katie: have not tried slim in 6.  is that a diet program? pill? food plan?

It's actually a work out regimen that's advertised a lot on the TV.  I ordered it and got it but haven't started it yet.  Just wanted to know other peoples success with it.

Hi everyone- i'm back!

sparkleriot- i was in ft. lauderdale and naples- it only rained a few days, but mostly it was just sunny and humid and really hot! =)

Katie- I haven't heard of slim in 6, either- sorry!

I am not going to weigh in until next week because with the combo of just getting back from vacation AND the TOTM i know it won't be pretty.

Hope everyone else is doing good!

I know I've been pretty much MIA for the past couple weeks, but hopefully I'll be getting back on track starting this week.  It seems like I hit a summer slump...I"m sure we've all hit them before.  It was like the harder I tried to lose weight, the less it actually happened.  I think maybe putting too much pressure on myself causes a backslide where I don't care bc it's too much work.  Now, I'm focusing on just eating healthier stuff and if I want something like a hamburger, I'll eat it, and try  to make up for it in other ways, like extra exercise and other healthy food options.  I think trying too hard has been my major downfall.  I still write everything down, and I know that helps me.  We'll see how the rest of the summer goes.  I have to go pick up my bridesmaid dress this week.  YIkes!

Anywho, here's to getting out of the slump!

Well if there wasn't better motivation...I picked up my dress last night and it is TIGHT!  Not flattering tight, but uncomfortably tight.  I think 10 pounds by labor day is my new goal.  I mean, the dress looks ok, but if I have to wear it all day, I'll go crazy.  I didn't try to sit down in it, so I'm sure that's even tighter than when I'm standing.  So much for eating something if I want it.  Good thing I stocked up on produce this past weekend.  That's something you have to eat or it'll go bad.  And I bought a lot of it, so there's even more incentive to eat healthy.

It seems like most of this group has fizzled out.  I know I've hit a summer slump.  I'm wear too many weekend activities meets no weight loss!  Anyone else?

Yep, i feel you! I feel like i am so busy it's hard to think about getting to the store letting alone planning some meals! I need to try to make it more of a priority though.

I also am trying to get more exercise in- so far this week i have done at least 1/2 hour everyday except one- hopefully i can keep that going!

This summer has been rather unpredictable for me.  I have maintained my weight which is better than gaining, but frustrated that I'm not doing better for myself.  I wish I could say I was rather busy, but other than some small weekend activities life isn't much busier than in Apr. when I started this journey.  Today is a new month so my goal is to get back on the exercise train because that has been the big piece missing from my progress.  I wish everyone best of luck on getting through the summer without backsliding at least.

I am still here :)  I haven't fallen off the face of the Earth. My computer crashed two days before we moved.  Now three weeks later I still don't have internet at my home.

Anyways everything as far as weight loss and getting in shape is at a stand still.  I haven't run or lost any weight since the before I moved. I am fine with that.

My family did join a rather large sports complex that includes fitness center, Icerink, pools and work out classes. I am looking very forward to using these facilities in the coming months.  I have also come to the conclusion I might need some professional help in ragards to losing the last 20lbs and toning my body.

I hope everyone else's summer is going well.

Hey guys- anyone else still here?

So, i've been slacking off and my new pants are starting to feel tight - ahhh!!

Who is up for starting some weigh-ins? We can just post it for now...just so I know i have to write it down somewhere, that will help. =)
