Supposed to gain weight: but how can it not go to my stomach?

Quote  |  Reply

The doctor told me that I shoudl gain some weight. Whenever I try, it all goes to my stomach, and I get really self-conscious about it.

Is there a way that it won't go to my stomach?

And what foods could I eat to make my stomach not get huge?

sorry love, as part of recovery our body aims to protect the vital organs which are typically in the midsection, meaning weight gain in the abdomen first. fortunately, once you put on more weight it evens out and you can't notice. you have to overcome this fear of a big stomach because honestly our vision is a bit distorted anyway. although, you will gain more fat in this area at first it will feel worse than it actually looks. it's okay though, you can do it. you will feel so much better once you put on the necessary weight and start fueling your body adequately. don't think about it too much!! :) good luck!

Chrissy is right. But, as a word of comfort/motivation, the more weight I've gained (30 lbs since January), the flatter my stomach has become. Keep in mind that at first when you start gaining, it's going to feel like a lot more weight going to your stomach, but in reality, it's just the food in there, and the digestive juices etc. Bloating is awful in refeeding. But if you keep with it, everything evens out, promise!

Yup, my weight gain evened out eventually too. Just give it time :)

A lot of it was bloating, too. Uuuuuuggh. =P

Can't avoid it.  You just have to try to remember that it WILL even out in time.

A lot of it is bloating.  Some of it is fat due to your increased stress hormones (which will make most of the fat gain to to the stomach).  The bloating will decrease, and as you become more healthy, the stress hormones will go down and the weight will redistribute.

The only alternative is to NOT gain weight...which isn't an alternative.  Long term vs short term goals.
