Not too sure about this one ..

I am 5 ft tall and my whole life have been between 98-100 pounds until about 3 years ago and I just started gaining tons of weight? I weighed up to 145 at the heaviest - and again Im 5ft tall so thats a big deal. Now I am at 112 ... but I feel like I look huge and want to get down to 98. My body looks terrible, I have stretch marks on the sides of my legs, its embarrassing. I felt like a failure and I regret it so much because there are just certain things that cant be undone. SO, I finally got a gym membership and its been less than a month, but coming close ...

My dad actually bought me the new rules and I am on week 2. Before I got the book I was doing cardio and felt pretty good. I obviously changed the way I eat. Before I seriously ate ... lots of fast food, one meals a day, junk food - just terrible. Now salads and oatmeal and fruits - its a huge difference.

I can tell I am gaining muscle but, as I have read from a number of you, cutting calories seems to be the way to go. I am also going to add in cardio. So 5 days of cardio 3 days of weight BECAUSE -

My body is getting THICK! but at the same time its not "tuning up" or down. which ever way you want to see it. I feel like I am getting heavier? So I am hoping adding this cardio and all that will do the trick. Has anyone else had this happen? Where they are like ... thicker .. heavier? But not in a nice muscle tuned way like we would all like???? Is it temporary or ?  I want to know how everyone else is doing and what stage or week they are in and how it was in the begining and all those things. Please help - I need some real insight from more experienced women!

You've just started a strength training program so, right now, your muscles are retaining a lot of water.  This will make them look "thick" for a few weeks and will make you weigh more for a few weeks.  It should go away within 4-6 weeks.  I've had very good success with this program, but I didn't see any results 'till about 5 weeks in due to the whole water retention issue.

I can totally relate to how you're feeling... I feel "thick" too.  Especially in the middle/tummy area... not sure if I'm bloated or gaining fat there, or what.  It drives me crazy though.  My weight has only gone up a few lbs at the max though, so it's not horrible.  Oh, BTW, I'm in week 6 of Stage 1.  I have noticed improvements in my arms though, and I have baby biceps.  Oh, and when I flex them I can see some nice muscles in my back.   :)  Just not happy about my middle area... not sure if I should hang in there, or hop on the bandwagon and cut some cals.  Maybe I should wait a bit longer??
