"Surprise!" What food did you think you'd hate but you actually loved?

For me, it would have to be raw oysters.  They look so disgusting... I'm not even going to say like what.  But my boyfriend got me to try one, just one, on a saltine with some cocktail sauce and horseradish.  I couldn't believe it, but now I'm hooked!  It wasn't disgusting at all, it was delicious?

So what's yours?  Name all those foods you thought would be gross, but when you tried them, you loved them!

Mo's Bacon Bar, by Vosges. It's a 41% cacao milk chocolate bar with smoked applewood bacon bits and smoked alderwood salt.

Also the bacon doughnut from Voodoo Doughnuts in Portland, Oregon. It's a maple bar with two strips of bacon on top.

You wouldn't think those combinations would work, but boy, do they ever.

This is probably the wrong website to mention those, though :\

Beets

Eggplant

Almond milk

Fiber one

beef jerky!

All Bran, Tofu, Grapefruit

sushi all the way.  been hooked for years now.
Oh, beefaroni, sushi is another big one for me.  I love it now, thanks to my bf (again.)

cabbage

squash

wasa crackers

ummm basically any health food! :)

I used to hate apples...because I'd had a few mushy, mealy apples sometime in the past and had hated them..but then one day a friend got me to try a red delicious, and that got me started...

Beef

Raw fish

Dark chocolate

Mushrooms

Beef tongue.

At first it had to be cubed up in the tiniest, unrecognizable pieces. Then I could handle it sliced.  Finally was able to handle cutting it up myself and it has an amazing specific taste thats really good.

Yogurt.

I always thought I hated it, but when I finally tried a whole bowl of plain yogurt, I was hooked,  Now I eat it all the time with chopped apples.  LOVE IT!!!!!

cottage cheese! I looked at it and that was it i never even wanted to come within 50 ft of that "thing!" But then we were at costco one fine day and they were having samples of none other than cottage cheese, so i ate it and i fell in love with it! It took some time getting used to the texture but i eat that ever single morning for breakfast, and i seem to be doing fine right now! Yay for cottage cheese!

Sushi

Asparagus (only had the canned type at first and didn't like the texture)

Mettwurst = raw, ground pork spread on bread with pepper and a slice of onion.  it's a german thing.  comes from a pig raised and butchered in an especially clean environment, should be butchered and eaten the same day.

Raw tuna

Garbanzo beans -- and I just discovered TOASTED garbanzo beans which are super yummy. Am going to experiment making my own tonight so that I can control the salt. If the experiment is a success, I'll share the recipe. They should be super low in calories and have fantastic fiber and protein benefits.

Tomatoes -- never thought they had much taste until I moved to Italy and discovered what a tomato is supposed to be. I even eat them raw with a bit of salt and maybe a dash of oil.

artichoke hearts.

Ooh I don't even know because the foods that I think are gross, I don't try. And I am pretty optimistic about most food anyway, unless it's some exotic animal organ or something slimy...
Cottage cheese.  I only eat it with apple butter.
cottage cheese! i used to think it looked SO gross i refused to try it. then i finally gave it a whirl. now i eat it all the time, plain! i love it!
brussel sprouts

I remember hating these when I was young. One day I saw that they had brussel sprouts in the individual steam fresh frozen veggies...they're awesome!
