Tomorrow I'm going out to eat at a Japanese restuarant for dinner.   I'll probably get a California Roll or Spicy Tuna Roll or something similar.  I'm thinking the entire roll is probably only like 350-400 calories (for a standard sized roll).  Does that seem right?

california roll is right, spicy tuna may run you slightly higher because of the mayo. You can ask them to go light on the rice. Trust me, you won't miss it. Also if you are looking for the lowest calorie sushi, go for the cucumber roll.

The calories depends on the place you go- some have mayo but a place that is close to me does not-- and they have awesome tofu/sesame salad

I had sushi tonight. Mmmmmmm!

well darn now i want sushi...

I have found it so much simpler just to skip the rice, and have sashimi at home .... I have a great time cutting up my own yellowfin tuna, avocado, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, etc.

Rolls with uncooked fish on them have more rice and are healthy, but a little more empty calories than a maki roll. I like crunchy shrimp tempura which is unfortunately the highest calories because the shrimp is deep fried... I also like Tootsy rolls which is just crab and shrimp. I also stay away from rolls with cream cheese in them.

I also always make sure to get edamame  because it's fairly low-cal, very healthy, and very filling (and you stay full) - plus, it's super tasty.

I like to get a rainbow roll which is a california roll topped with a variety of sashimi and usually some avocado.  Yummy!

Some places will make it with brown rice if you ask.

Most sushi restaurants will make rolls with 1/2 the rice if you ask.

Also, don't forget about sashimi, I usually order one roll and a couple orders of sashimi or a poke salad. Very filling and healthy, but low-cal without all the rice.

Yum, enjoy!! Now I want sushi tooLaughing
