i sweat like a man.
honestly, i do the elliptical for an hour and 5 minutes and after 5 minutes i'm already sweating, and by the end of my time, i'm DRENCHED.
is this normal? if not, what should i do?
I would have to say so. Some people naturally sweat a ton. On a hot day, I walk from my car to my apartment door and feel the beads of sweat on my back already. I usually leave the gym with my shirt being soaked. I've invested in nice deodorant and lots of white shirts, lol. I've heard that when your body isn't used to doing something (whether it's a new machine or a higher intensity) that it sweats more. I've noticed it to be true . Besides- be proud of your sweat! Think of it as a way to show off your hard work :)
Why do anything about sweating? You're getting rid of your body's toxins!
I was DRIPPING with sweat during my cardio workout yesterday and while it might have been a little gross, people were definitely looking at me like "Wow, she's working her butt off...literally!" and I felt awesome. When I sweat like that, I feel like I'm really doing something. If it's after 5 minutes, I'd venture to say that only means that you're well-hydrated and in-shape!
I am the same way. I've read somewhere that fit people actually start sweating sooner because their body is easily able to recognize that it is exercising.
Don't worry about it, just make sure you drink lots. Frankly I'd be more embarrassed if I didn't sweat, haha.
Speaking of sweat...this morning I was at Pilates, and I was sweating all over the place, which is funny cause I don't normally sweat there. I think it was cause of the weather.
My instructor was saying that it is way more healthy to sweat a lot. She said there were a lot of people that don't sweat at all.
Lucky me, I sweat like crazy when doing cardio. My hais gets SOAKED. Whenever I run in public people always think I'm going to keel over and die cause I look so horrid. THIS, is why I can't get away with the lunchtime workout like a lot of people can. ;)
haha I can't do a lunch workout either. My hair is quite fine, and short, so it gets soaked, to the point where it drips, lol. I definitely need a shower and blowdry before I can resemble normal.
I sweat a lot too. I have very long , thick hair and it gets drenched and frizzy which is the worst part so no lunchtime workouts for me either!
I am a crazy sweater too. I don't mind it when I intend to sweat, for example, during a work out. It does bother me however, when I am sitting at my desk in our central air conditioned office and I have sweat coming through my shirt. Myself and one co-worker, we sweat like CRAZY...then we have one right in between us who is always cold. It gets pretty interesting.
I'm the same way, but I kinda like it - I crave sweat :) Although it's a bit annoying working out with my boyfriend who has to work really hard to even get the hint of a glisten of sweat on his forhead. I would love to be able to work out, cool off, and go back to work like he can. Darn him!
No advice. I just wanted to share that I too sweat like a man.
hey, we sweat like REAL WOMEN!! I consider it a sign of my power and the worst part of my workout is usually BEFORE I begin to sweat. Once the sweat starts flowing, I feel like a "well-oiled machine." I sweat buckets--always have, always will. And I get really red in the face even with moderate exertion. That's just me. BUT you should see the color in my cheeks for hours after a work out--I "glow." It is all so worth it!
Be proud of your sweating, seriously!! Learn to love it and you will be so much happier!
Haha I tell my friends all the time how much I sweat. I sweat more than any other girl I know, that's for sure. I don't think there's anything physically wrong with sweating a ton, you should be worried about just staying hydrated.
I used to think it was gross how much I sweat (I admit it's not very attractive), but then I remind myself that I'd rather sweat a ton than not sweat at all. I think of it as a reminder that I'm exercising and that I'm working towards becoming more fit simply by having to break a sweat.

The same happens with me. If I workout at lunch I MUST take a shower!
When I first started to exercise about two months ago, my circulation was terrible. Instead of sweating, I'd turn white. This afternoon after my workout when I saw myself in the mirror, I was very proud to note that I was red and sweaty! I feel much healthier now, so one can only assume that sweat is a sign that you're working properly. :)
hahah It made me feel so much better to read about fellow sweaters! I also sweat alot and my hair always gets pretty wet. I wanted to share a tip though, I read in a magazine the other day that since sweat was only salt water and not dirt it is not necessary to wash it, but use it for volume. The article said to buy some perm clips and clip them into your roots and let dry after a work out. (of course, only if you weren't going to be anywhere in public for an hour or so) But anyways, after you take the clips out your supposed to have really volumized hair! I havn't yet tried this out, but I think I might. Washing after out really dries my hair out! ![]()
After my 30 minutes in the treadmill walking/running I am soaked. When I get home it looks like I been swimming in the pool. That makes me feel good, it means I got a good workout.
oh my gosh!! i sweat soooo bad in the gym!! it's a teeny apt complex gym but gets teh job done, but i feel like "that girl" who's always in there from 6-7 (my workout time each day after work) who's on teh elliptical, who sweats a ton!!! i like to think i drink a lot of water, so i sweat more?!?! haha oh well!! at least we KNOW we're getting a great workout in!!
As my mom likes to always put it....I sweat like a CHAMP! I like that phrase. I get all red in the face and see I'm not the only one that is stopped by strangers asking if I was ok. ![]()
I am also another one that is more proud of my workouts by how much I've sweat.
