Sweet Egg Whites!
So today I had some extra calories to play around with and decided to try something new - sweet egg whites!
I took:
3/4 c. egg whites
Splenda (to taste)
Cinnamon (lots!)
Sugar free syrup
1/2 c. lightly microwaved, mushed blueberries
I fried them on a non-stick pan.
It was SO good! I think next time I'll cook it a little longer though to get crunchy edges. I just had to share. =)
Has anyone else tried something like this?
Yep! It's a classic.
Other classic egg white concoctions:
"mock danish" add Tbsp of sweetened cream cheese to the middle of egg mixture & nuke 1-2 min. I always add lemon extract.
"flax muffin" (beat egg whites, sweetener & a pinch of baking powder with 1 Tbsp flaxmeal & nuke 2 minutes). I make berry, coconut, almond etc. Sometimes I make a chocolate "muffin" with cocoa powder, and sometimes I might add a peice of chocolate or cream cheese in the middle.
You can also use the eggwhite/sweetener/baking powder/flaxmeal mixture to make "pancakes," though I think they're more like crepes.
Ouh, the mock danish thing may taste good as a variation with a fruit spread and drizzle some vanilla yogurt as "icing"!
I mix Egg whites, Cinnamon & Rice Bran all together & use sugar-free pancake syrup (zero calories & sweetened with stevia) : It's pretty rocking & I use the entire carton of egg whites because after all the entire thing is only 240 calories!
I always add egg whites to my oatmeal with bananas (or other fruit), splenda, and cinnamon and it comes out REALLY good. Egg whites are somewhat tasteless so they go really well in savory food but are often overlooked in sweet food. I have a major sweet tooth so it's definitely one of my favorite low cal high protein additions.
For some reason I cannot gag down savory food in the morning. After yogurt and/or cottage cheese with fruit in the morning was giving me horribly bad stomach pains, I realized I probably had some allergic reaction to dairy. So, I switched to egg whites. I tried it with veggies, but couldn't do it. Then I remembered that I read somewhere on here about sweet eggs. I mixed pumpkin and peaches with a half a cup of egg whites and cinnamon and a tiny bit of splenda. It tasted so, so good and so much protien and fiber. It looks a little bit odd and people make fun of me, but I really like it.
Hehe. I had it for breakfast. This time I used a large pan so the egg was very thin, and I cooked to until it had a bunch of crispy spots. EVEN BETTER. This is up there with oatmeal!
After reading this i decided to try something like it!
I mixed one large egg white with splenda, cinnamon, a little vanilla extract, and a little chocolate flavoring and nuked it for a minute and a half and WOW! It tasted like a cake almost, very good, cant wait to experiment with sweet egg whites :D
If you want to try a real treat, beat the egg whites with a hand mixer until they form stiff peaks, add in a little sweetener or spices (no fat though, it will ruin the stiffness) and then spread the whites into a nonstick skillet, and cook until just browned on the outsides, flipping once. It's like a little fluffy protein pancake, completely guilt free and ready for the syrup! :)
I've never heard of doing sweet stuff with egg whites before! I think I'm going to have to try something new!
