Are sweet potatoes good diet food?
Asked by anonymous on Nov 02, 2009 in Nutrition

Answer

Sweet potatoes are excellent nutrient dense food for dieters and everyone else.  Just count the calories in your sweet potato if you are calorie counting.  Sweet potatoes are loaded with nutrients: starch (for energy), fiber, vitamins A, Bs, C and the minerals, potassium, copper, and others.  Many cultures eat sweet potatoes for their staple food. The versatile sweet potato can be baked or grilled, or in a mixed dish or a baked good.

Fact: a diet containing whole, fresh fruits and vegetables is one of the best for a healthy mind and body. Although true, it can be hard to keep food fresh at home for longer periods of time, and if you have no time to shop every few days, boxed and canned foods become appealing. We often hear about heavily processed frozen dinners and processed foods worth avoiding, but there are minimally processed foods that do pack a lot of nutrition and may be worth having in the fridge or cupboard.
