Sweet Tooth

Quote  |  Reply

I have this huge craving for sweet stuff after I have a meal. Is it ok if I have some sweets everyday as long as it fits in my daily calorie intake ( the weight loss one is about 1400 per day).

Also can someone suggest some low cal sweet stuff that I can have and satisfy my urge to have something sweet after meals??

I am a SWEETS a holic.

Aim for depending on your type (if you like candy- try fruit snacks (100% juice ones), if your an ice cream person go for frozen yogurt or sorbait(?Sp) I recently had low fat frozen yogurt with strawberry sherbert and it was just about as good as my normal cookie dough ice cream, and pop corn is always a great after dinner snack!!! If you just HAVE to have the chocolate go for dark, don't like it? Raisenettes! But limit yourself, chocolate is so high cal!!)

Most sweets I've had to simply keep out of reach lately. That way I can say "NO" just once a week or so at the super market rather than daily. However, I too need stuff around to satisfy me. Usually its:

-Nestle Carb Smart Hot Chocolate Mix (25 cals)

-Tea with splenda or equal (less than 1 cal)

-Diet soda (sort of weaned myself off this, but good for emergency - 1 cal)

-Diced peaches in water, in one of those plastic cups (25 cals and 100% vitamin C!)

-Blueberries (80/cup, good fiber)

-Raspberries (60/cup, BETTER fiber)

-any 100 cal snack pack.. but you have to buy a whole box at a time, and that usually screws me up!

-Hershey kisses

-Diet Root Beer with 2 Tbs half and half (41 cals.. taste like root beer float!)

Hope some of em help! I only allow myself "sweets" after dinner because if I have them early in the day, I just want more and more. Except sometimes I will have some sweet sort of fruit with my lunch.

Thanks feanor!! Some of these are good never thought of having one or 2 kisses.. always end up devoruing 10-12. I like having something really sweet like Indian sweets that are loaded with butter and sugar like groundnut sugar cubes.

Fudgicle pops for me.  A regular one (don't like sugar free...not a nurta sweet girl) only has 60 calories!  Totally creamy and yummy
  • Fruit pops, you can get the ones made with no added sugar for 30 cals each.
  • I also enjoy the 10 calorie jello cups.
  • Fruit cups are about 70 calories each.
  • Nothing more tasty than a juicy sweet Clementine orange (I am not sure how many cals but around 50 I think).
  • Slim-a-bear 100 calories choc covered ice cream bars or ice cream sandwiches
  • And being in New York I also once in a while have Tasti-d-lite which is fake lowfat yogurt about 70-90 calories a cup.

These items are a lifesaver for a sweet tooth addict such as myself.

Don't forget about sugar free jell-o!! =) Anything fruit like listed before. Try chewing some flavored gum (sugarfree is best, of course).

For me, a meal just isn't complete until you've had something sweet :)

Personally, I like to keep really, really good chocolate around, and have 1 square (40-60cals depending) after dinner. The cost tends to keep the amount I have in the cupboard limited. Lindt makes some excellent fancy schmancy flavors, and generally a taste is all I really need.

Also: Apple or carrot slices with 1T natural peanut butter, 100 calorie pack of PopSecret Kettlecorn, 1 crunchy granola bar, dried fruit, Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches, Weight Watchers Fruit & Cream bars (140 cal I think...), 1 serving of cereal, put yogurt cups in the freezer, or even just a hard candy or sucker if you're dying for that candy taste.

Weight Watcher's cake - 1 box cake mix, 12oz diet soda. Mix, bake, and voila! If you've got friends to share it with, a fantastic alternative. I just brought in spice cake with diet Pepsi  (w/ frosting, 175 cal per piece x 16 pieces) to work, and even the non-calorie conscious devoured it.

And FYI, I'm on the 1300-1400cal/day goal, too, so it can be done!, and  I'm living proof :) Good luck!

i also have a large sweet tooth, and i simply will not give up my chocolate!

I LOVE the new 100-calorie chocolate covered pretzels and mint chocolate wafers.. also the 100-calorie hostess cupcakes are amazing too!

Oh and if you want some ice cream.. go for (edy's I think) yogurt blends chocolate brownie.. for a 1/2 cup its 130 calories, and its to DIE for.  Tongue out

Can you tell I like chocolate??

Jesskat3, This is the first I've heard of making cake with soda! It sounds great. Can you give me the specifics on what I need and how to make it please? I have my son's birthday this weekend and I would love to make an alternate cake for a couple of the weight watchers in my family!! Thank you!!

Oh and do you make a special frosting?  :) thanks

carisajoss1,

Actually... that's the whole recipe! I did one box of spice cake mix and whisked in 12oz of Diet Pepsi... No other ingredients required! Bake according to the directions (or until a toothpick comes out clean) you're good to go! A friend of mine also did a white cake using Diet Cherry Seven Up, which was pretty darn good.

I *did* sneak in some calories in the frosting, in which I used:

1 c. heavy whipping cream

1/2 package of Sugar Free, Fat Free Jell-O Vanilla Pudding

Splash of vanilla extract

Dash of powdered ginger

Splash of milk to thin it out a bit

Whip and frost!

You could *easily* substitute Cool Whip for the cream if you're looking to lower the calories even further.

Also, the cake was a little... difficult to slice out of the pan. I probably lost about 1/16 to crumbing and it sticking to my knife. You could probably throw in an egg white or two to keep it together better. Let me know what you end up making! I'm always looking for good cake recipes! :)

A roll of Smarties!! Called Rockets in Canada. I don't mean the chocolate ones, I mean the chalky fruity ones. 20 cals a roll.

I am DYING to try the diet soda cake... I think diet root beer with white cake would be delicious, but that's just me ;)
