Of course! That's all everyone talks about! Water fills you up. Diet soda is extremely unhealthy. Artificial sweeteners and other bad stuff that could also be bad for your metabolism. Water is much healthier and safer and no side effects! =) I think switching to water WILL help you lose weight. Good luck!

Yes to both your questions!

Water fills me up and is much more readily available than sodas --  I do okay with tap water and avoid the bottled stuff because I don't think it's good for the environment and tap is a heck of a lot cheaper too!

Besides being a MUCH healthier option, I found that after eliminating diet soda from my diet, I eventually lost my taste for sweets.  Now when I have a sweet craving I'll treat myself to the occasional diet soda.

I'm not going to go into all the scientific stuff such as how soda leaches your body of calcium (you can find that information by surfing medical sites on the Web),  but switching from soda to water has helped me to lose weight.  It's a natural cleanser for the body.

It's especially important to drink lots of water if you've overdone the sodium with any of your meal options.

Like many others, I find it difficult to get in my daily water requirements.  It helps me to add a slice of lemon but most of the time I just pour myself a glass and make myself drink it.  If you do need to have a diet soda fix, try to stay away from caffienated beverages.

bee_roach, I thought the complexion thing was all hype but I noticed a huge improvement.  Just another perk to switching to water!

Ok, I will

cause I actually don't drink water, juice or milk

ALL I drink are diet sodas and I drink up to like 5 a day

I didn't loose any significant weight until I stopped drinking diet soda. I was drinking probably as many as you, now I don't want them at all.  If I do have one they don't even taste good.  Now I only consume some black coffee at breakfast, water all day and a cup of milk with dinner.

I'd love to say it helped my complexion but it didn't just my weight loss and desire for sweets.

water is all you need.

i used to drink regular soda years ago. tons of it. that really contributed to gaining so much weight. then i switched to diet sometime back and it helped in the beginning, but doesn't really help all that much.

i just recently went to all water. aside from the occasional beer or 10, i have only drank water since the end of last year. it makes life better. everything about it.

sunshine and water is all you need in life.

I pretty much only drink diet soda. How do I get un-addicted? I drink at least 4-5 a day and need one in the mornings to wake up. It also keeps me from eating to just have a diet coke and fill up, know what I mean?

If it will help my weight loss I may quit... Its just really hard. Any advice?
I love soda...it is my major addiction. I slowly switched over to diet soda but it upsets my stomach. I have always drank lots of water but sometimes I just love the feeling of carbonation with a meal. I have found that flavored sparkling mineral water helps. I like Cap-10...it does take a while to get used to the distinct mineral flavor...it does grow on you though. And I am also addicted to caffeine so I just drink a cup or two of coffee in the morning to replace my favorite Coke.
I switched to flavored seltzer.  I tried Weight Watchers several years ago and lost my sweet tooth.  It gives some flavor and the feeling of drinking soda so i can still have something bubbly with pizza!

I quit diet pop in August of 2007. I drank a minimum of 4-5 per day, more on weekends.

After a couple of weeks I had more energy, less bloating and felt overall more healthy physically. My skin and hair are much healthier.  One of the biggest changes I felt was less inflamation. I moved with more ease.

I drank a lot of water, but I need my morning caffeine and I don't like coffee. I switched to unsweetened tea. If you don't like unsweetened tea, use regular sugar instead of the artificial sweeteners. You only need 1-2 teaspoons of regular sugar (16 calories in 1 tsp.) in 16 ounces of tea to make it taste sweet. That's very low calorie. Tea also gives you some antioxidants as well.

I'm very glad I quit.

My husband almost always notices a weight loss when he cuts down on his diet soda.

I can't begin how disgusting and really unhealthy "diet" or "lite" substitutes are for your health. I am personally lucky to not enjoy carbonated beverages that much in general but in the long run you are better off to enjoy a regular can of coke than diet coke.

Artificial sweetners such as aspartame are not digested by the body. Therefore aspartame goes to the brain and then when it reaches it, it metabolizes to Formaldehyde. So instead of saving a few calories go buy yourself a coke, and enjoy it. Then maybe do a little exercise and the joy that you feel off of a regular pepsi or coke will make you feel better and healthier in the long run.

Now granted regular coca cola and pepsi does a lot of things such as rot your teeth, and can potentionally make you fat but water is wonderful. I usually have a huge glass of water in the morning and it indeed does curb your appetite. I hope this helps!

i started drinking some sparkling Pellegrino water recently, i love it.... I do have the occasional cherry coke zero, any thoughts on that ?!

Before I started my lifestyle change I drank about 2 to 3 cups of coffee a day with only very sweet tea and lemonade mix.  Now I drink half my body weight in ounces of water a day!!!  I feel so much better but I did go through a serious caffeine withdrawal.  I feel more full with my meals now instead of wanting to fill up with sweet drinks.  My skin looks better and I believe some of weight loss greatly came from flushing my system of all the sodium and sugar I was consuming before.

Now if I must I drink a cup of coffee a week but chase it with two glasses of water or hot chocolate for my dessert with dinner.

Have you died the Crystal Light Green Tea?  Here's what I did to get rid of sodas as the "Staple" of my beverage intake:

Buy a gallon of drinking water, insert two of the crystal light ice tea containers.  Shake like crazy and throw it in the fridge.  There you go, you have a gallon of crystal light green tea that tastes great but is as good as drinking straight water.

i stopped drinking diet soda a week ago. i feel much better and don't really miss it. i do have coffee though. i just use regular sugar instead of the artificial and work the calories into my daily allotment. so, i still get the caffeine.

good luck

What about mixing water with those drink packets, like the Crystal Light brand or Hawiian punch? I myself don't really like the taste of water unless I'm working out. I also like it to be frozen and unthawing a bit like a little slushy. I'm trying to stop drinking diet sodas too. I only started about a year ago and I heard that it's bad for your teeth and I really care about my teeth. It's very hard to stop because that's seems to be the only thing to wake me up in the mornings besides taking an energy pill.

What is the difference between diet sodas and coffee with splenda? I do not want the added calories that come from sugar if I can avoid it.
artificial sweeteners are HORRIBLE for you!  Bad for your body and brain.  My memory has improved so much since I cut out artificial sweeteners.

Drinking crystal light is the same as diet soda.  Full of aspartame.

You have a double whammy of caffeine and sweetener. Depending on your tolerance, you may just start cutting down on the diet soda. You can substitute with water or maybe club soda with a lemon/lime/orange slice in it. Keep in mind you'll probably experience a "health crisis" (feel like the flu) when your body starts crying for more caffeine or sweetener. Other techniques are to always drink a glass of water before every meal - and perhaps every time you want a soda. If you really think you need caffeine, then substitute with some herbal teas. Many of the fruit teas have some natural sweet taste so you shouldn't need to add sweetener.

I managed to break the cycle of soda and now only consume water, herbal teas, fresh vegetable juices, and the occasional fresh fruit juice.

Good luck!
