Taco Bell Nutritional Content
I usually have Subway for lunch, as it is healthy and it's just enough food to fill me up and not leave feeling stuffed. Every once in awhile I'll have something different like a grilled chicken sandwich from Chik-Filet or Wendy's, but usually it's Subway every day at lunch time.
So today I get a craving for something different and decided to try Taco Bell. I look up the nutritional content and select two items that are low fat, and have a decent amount of protein. The calories add up to roughly the same amount as a 6" Subway sandwich with cheese, supposedly.
So I ate it, and now almost 3 hours later feeling completely stuffed like I just ate a damn horse. I have indigestion/heartburn and my mouth is dry like I just ate a pound of salt. It literally feels like I ate 3x as many calories as my usual Subway sandwich.
Either Taco Bell's advertised nutritional content is wrong, or this "food" is crap for my stomach. Either way, I don't think I'm eating there any more. All I had was a chicken soft taco fresco style, and a chicken burrito fresco style.
This is the first time since I started eating clean 2 months ago that I have eaten something that has made me feel physically ill.

The only items on the taco bell menu that can equal in calories with subway are the "Fresco" items (aka no cheese or sauce).
These items like a soft taco don't come "Fresco" by default you have to request it specially. The calorie menu isn't really clear on that when I first looked at it I was like "hmmm taco supreme 150cal" I will take two but actually unless I order a special Fresco taco supreme it's 210 calories.
That tricked me up before maybe that's it?

I stated in the second to last paragraph that both items were ordered Fresco.
I don't know for sure, but it most likely has to do with the large amount of salt content, and just the fact that it's processed, preservative-loaded, and more often than not, mishandled food.

In addition to what Bryan noted as the most likely culprits, also keep in mind that many fast food locations put more in their products than their corporate offices dictate. So what should have been a single portion may have been 1.5 or 2, depending on how generous the handler was with the fillings. It's really hard to trust the nutritional content of things from places like Taco Bell, since you rarely get the exact same portion size twice
It could be the horse meat they use...
What breed? I'll eat Andalusian but there's no way in hell I'm eating Standardbred. Damn you Taco Bell! >:O
MSG....that stuff always makes me feel like crap and it's in most fast foods
LOL SHAHEEN!
I wouldn't eat Standardbred either...
I think the non-horse people might get confused though.
FYI - Standardbreds = ugly
haha ouch, now I'm going to get flamed by someone who likes STBs
I wouldn't trust the nutrional info from corporate myself, often it is outdated, and often they don't include everything that the restaurant puts in.

taco bell uses grade C meat...
When I really need a quick fix & I'm out I'll get Ranchero Chicken Tacos, fresco style & maybe the rice also fresco style sometimes. I know it can get me full & away from all the temptation that goes with being in a place like Orlando, out shopping & running errands. It seems to be fine for me so far. It was even fine when I was eating plain (regular) crunchy tacos. Very reasonable points-wise if you're on WW, as I was before I switched back to calories to change it up. If I go over what I'm supposed to have I can always tell because the punishment on the scale is swift & severe. lol
But, as I posted about on another thread, they screw up ALL the time. I have to really make it damn clear & then check what I get. Otherwise they'll make it fresco style & leave the damn dressing on. Drives me nuts. lol
Just to clarify, in a general sense, I'm not a fan of Taco Bell's. I love Tacos & taco salads, but I greatly prefer the more homemade taste if I can. I find Subway to be frightening & disgusting, btw. The look of that meat is a disgrace. I'd never seen anything like it until I went there & I was in my late 20s by then.

Taco Bell is garbage, regardless of how many calories it has.
the only thing ill eat at taco bell is a bean burrito, no sauce but i do ask for cheese on occasions. even that has some bad points because their beans are full of lard.. yech..
David dear (I swear sometimes I think it's gotta be the name *rolls eyes*) you are aware that publicly declaring everything as garbage isn't going to be what makes you keep your weight off, right? Everytime I look at a thread for anything besides something like wheat germ or something equally as interesting, it's the same tune you're singing. It sounds to me more like you're trying to convince yourself, rather than other people.
Yeah, taco bell is hardly fine cuisine. I am far from a fan of the place. I'm assuming you surely must have occasion to be stuck out of the house all day without the ability to bring food. I'm not sure what you're finding to eat in that case that stays within your calories & doesn't leave you starving, but for some of us these things are quite helpful.
If you dieted & now maintain without ever having a piece of candy or baked treat or ever needing a fast food short cut, then bravo to you, but chill with the whole garbage thing every time. That one liner is getting kinda old.
lol If you think about it, it's all garbage. or at least it will be. :P

You're overanalyzing.
When I say taco bell is garbage, that doesn't mean all Mexican food is. A local taco joint is bound to make a better quality burrito than Taco Bell. I eat 3-4 burritos a week from a local burrito joint.
As for Entemanns, I truly mean that it is garbage. Packaged baked goods are garbage. A cookie from a local bakery is much better than 2 little Entemmans chocolate chip cookies at 80 calories a throw. I know Entemmans is garbage; just read the ingredients (and the order of ingredients) and tell me that it's anything but garbage.
I work and go to school full-time. Yeah I'm stuck out of the house a lot. I'll eat salad or a pack of turkey if I can't find anything that's even remotely safe. I bring all my snacks with me when I leave the house in the morning. It's not as hard as people make it out to be.
I ate a pint of frozen yogurt last night. Don't assume I never eat anything "bad". Oh and btw, I don't particularly enjoy wheat germ lol.

Pre-packaged baked goods ARE garbage! One of the worst pieces of garbage to speak of!
