Being taken out for Thai food tonight? What to eat...
I try to avoid eating anywhere that doesn't post calories and serving sizes since I've been on this diet, but tonight a friend is taking my roommate and I out to eat in repayment for letting him stay at our apartment. We're going to a Thai place here in NYC called Galanga. I can find a menu online, but I simply have no clue what would be good and what would be bad for me... obviously no fried spring rolls, and I'd think no curries... but what would be okay? I've left 840 calories for tonight, but don't know how to spend them wisely... what do you eat when you go out for Thai?

I love Thai food, but its tough because most of the items are hich-cal noodles or rice, and usually stir-fried, and usually in huge portions, it seems. You can probably find an entree of chicken or fish and get steamed veggies with it. You can always ask for them to cook with no or little fat/oil.
choose an entree from the "house specialties" list. They are all grilled with different low cal sauces --chilli sauce etc.
stay away from dishes with coconut milk and watch how much noodles & rice you eat.
Do a search on "Thai" in this site. It brings out nutritional values for most of the food like Pad Thai, yellow curry etc...
I was looking at the Seafood medley house specialty... hey, it may be the most expensive thing on the menu, but I'm not paying! haha.
Get Som Tum (green papaya salad) as an appetizer.
Som Tum is Yummy! Also try their "Lime-Dressing Salad" selections. They usually use lots of veggies with seafood or meat in Spicy Lime dressing. Yes, avoid coconut milk soup and curry. Avoid sweet sticky rice (made with coconut) milk for dessert. Don't drink sweet Thai tea or coffee with condense milk either. Go with Water or diet beverage.
FOr about 840 calories, you can have a cup of rice + Stir Fried (veggies and seafood?) + salad. Maybe a single rice or noodle dish :)

I'd definitely get fresh springrolls - (not the fried ones) they are so refreshing -- that and some soup and I'm set and happy!
