What takes AGES to eat?

Quote  |  Reply
I'm in one of those moods (have been for a week or so) where I just want to eat...All the time. Whether I'm hungry or not.

Chewing gum doesn't work because I get bored of it as I have some all the time plus when the taste goes it's no fun. I've been trying to eat fruit, but surely eating fruit non-stop isn't good either?

Is there anything (other than celery xD) low calorie which takes ages to eat or has so few calories I can eat it nonstop? xD

try switching to veggies instead of fruit....it has less sugar. crunchy things such as carrots takes a long time to eat bcuz it takes so long to chew them.

Good point - compared to the amount of fruit I eat I eat hardly any veggies.

And carrots are good, we have thousands lieing around as we've got 4 horses. xD Though someone once told me part of a carrot is undigestable, is that true? Thanks
Really hot soup.
I like to eat pre-bagged/clean veggies.  I go for the Broccoli/carrort/cauiflower mix.  You can get it at the Canadian Superstore, but I am sure you can find something simular at any supermarket.

I get very hungry during the afternoon and it seems to tam the beast so to speak.
All fiber is technically 'undigestable' so, yes.  But it's not one specific part of the carrot that you could chop  off.  And they are still great for you, unless you are on a low-fiber diet.

Frozen stuff.  Frozen non fat/low fat yogurt, frozen grapes, frozen corn (shut up, I like it)...
Cucumbers!

Wasa Crackers!  They are only 20 calories (for the Light ones) and you can add sugarfree jelly (10 calories) or Laughing Cow Light (35 calories).  I love to snack on them!  I use one Laughing Cow to 3 or so crackers.
Ice Cubes (0 cals) you can even freeze diet drinks in an ice tray

Cucumber slices (8 cals), and Green Pepper Rings (8 cals) Cherry Tomatoes w/ Fat Free Ranch veggie dip (20 cals) throw some jalapeno in if you get bored

Celery (8 cals) w/ a laughing cow light cheese triangle (30 cals) as your "dip"

Cottage Cheese w/ cinnamon

Light N Fit yogurt (60 cals)

Frozen banana sliced up with a sprinkle of cinnamon in the freezer, Frozen Red Grapes, mango and pineapple

Also eating with chopsticks usually takes a lil longer than you would think!  Try slowing yourself down with them.
i second the frozen grapes.

and wasabi peas....HOT HOT HOT!

sliced bell pepper strips...make a plate of finger sized veggies bell peppers, celery, carrots, zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, pea pods, etc.  Any you don't eat you can stir fry for dinner.

Edamame..tastes good, takes a while to pop each bean out. Lots of biting fun.
Don't eat ice cubes, they will destroy your teeth (please i learned the hard way).

Carrots are a great suggestion. Also cut up apples and pears and eat in small slices.
pomegranates! though it may not be the right time of year. apparently when my bf was a kid his mum told him the only way to eat pomegranates was with a toothpick... im sure it kept him quiet for hours! lol certainly takes me ages, sure i burn more calories just trying to pick bits out than i gain eating it.

how do ice cubes ruin your teeth nycgirl? (another thing he sits and eats)
Yes, I have to agree w/cutting things up in smaller pieces.  I always take a cut up apple to the movies.  I'm talking grape-size pieces.  It takes a long time to eat the whole apple.

And this sounds crazy, but certain crackers or cereals eaten one piece at a time, like one cheerio at a time.  Sometimes you just need the feeling of eating/crunching...

pickles
beef jerky takes awhile to eat...if you don't mind the sodium.
shelled peanuts or pistachios.  It takes time to take them out of the shell and eat them.
higher calorie though :) But GOOD fats......
Platypipearson - If you chew on ice cubes, it wears away at the enamel on your teeth. Or, you can even crack them. Sucking on ice cubes is harmless, though.

Beachfreak - I eat a serving of cereal dry like that - piece by piece - and it takes me over half an hour to eat sometimes. Very satisfying!

When I eat apples, peaches, or anything whole, first I slowly chew off the outer skin. Then I slowly nibble off chunks. This takes me a long time, too.

When eating fruit or veggies, try to eat them whole. If you cut them up, it's far too easy to gobble up those bite-sized pieces. But if you eat a whole carrot, you have to work at it! Just my two cents. :)
100 calorie packs of popcorn

honey bunches of oats: I pic out the plain flakes first, then the sweetenend ones, then the oat clicters so it takes a long time.
