"taking advantage" of TTOM? s:

Quote  |  Reply

Hi all :3
ok..this is a weird situation..
I usually get the munchies my first day of TTOM..and the days before it. But yesterday night... I swear I had like 2000 calories in a sitting...mostly from cookies and all that kinda sugary goodness... knowing that today was my weigh in day... I though "Bah! I'm gonna be like 4 lbs up anyway, why not continue eating?" so I did, and OBVIOUSLY, when I finally "woke up" of that mental state where I was hypnotized by baked and sugary goods... I was like...  WTH? WHAT WAS I THINKING?!
so.. when I stepped on the scale I WAS 4 lbs up... and what did I do next? EAT MORE. THINKING "SO WHAT? "
now I feel like CRAP. I hate it, I feel sick and everything, but CAN'T stop eating.. what's wrong with me?! it's like 2:30 pm and I already had like 1,900 calories! [ and i haven't had lunch already S: !!!!]

help? T_T
words of advice?
comfort?
similar situations?
I feel like a huge cow... >.<

If it makes you feel better, females burn an average of 300 extra calories during their period. Tongue out

i dont know that its so "dumb". i think we each have to figure out how to work with our bodies, how to listen, how to know what they need, and the ways in which our minds can just derail us and take control of the train. . . . taking us places we never meant to go! last mo. i had a pretty hard mo w/ ttom, the month before, no prob. it sounds like part of it is that you are waking up to what your patterns really are/can be/have been. if you dont want to eat this much sugar and refined carb, its really a good lesson to learn when you are susceptible to it, what your triggers are, how your right mind goes away and crazy thinking takes control, all of these things are really important things we have to learn about ourselves. if we aren't in touch with reality, we cant make meaningful changes. paying attention to "what is" is a powerful first step. then you have a sense of what your really working with!

plus, that 4 pounds is probably alot of water, both from ttom and from processed foods. take yourself for a walk, plan out your food, sensibly for the next few days, dont starve yourself, drink enough water, lots of water, and just do it the healthy way. it will be ok. you can really use this experience to learn something about yourself, and then try to work with that tendency when you notice it coming on next time, develop a strategy before it takes over your brain!

ttom is coming up quite soon for me, as well (i can usually tell more because of disturbances in my sleep, besides being able to tell the general time) and my yesterday was similar to yours. it was valentine's day, and i went through most of two boxes of chocolate, had cupcakes, ice cream, crackers, strawberry cake, chinese food, i pretty much did it all. and today when i woke up, i didn't dare to weigh myself, but i also pretty much consumed everything insight and went over my day's calories already by the mid-afternoon. we're in kind of in similar boats. i'm planning on starting out tomorrow with a planned breakfast and getting enough protein, while trying to downplay the sugar. it might be easier said than done, who knows. but it's best to get right back at it when you can. for me, that day is going to be tomorrow, since most of this day is over...

i hope things end up turning around for you, as well! best of luck with everything.

it makes me feel much better to know i burn an extra 300 calories! thank you!

haha good to know about those extra 300 calories! even though it would be even better if we burned like 1000 extra.. xP *sigh*
thanks for the info wistfulxthinking :3

and! thankyou bubbles556  I'll take it as a learning experience,I'm usually prepared because I know I get the munchies...but I'll be double prepared for next month....also, I'll avoid weighing myself...until maybe next sunday. hope those 4 lbs are gone by then...or at least half of them. maybe because of my frustration I couldn't see the good side of this, the lesson. xD

ah! naiteru! :D  yeah... tomorrow I'll get back on track too!  tomorrow WILL be SO much better. I'm planning my day already, *not starving myself or anything* but just continue as if yesterday and today never happened! good luck to you too :]

I have had those days (before starting CC mostly) where I find myself in the store buying stuff I almost never buy and then realizing, oh, yeah, it's almost TTOM. Usually in the course of a month things balanced out. My personal "sign" was usually double-dipped chocolate peanuts.

Now b/c I'm so much more conscious of what I eat, I catch the cravings at a much earlier stage (before I've gotten into the car). Since we don't keep a lot of crap around the house usually, it means I have to make a conscious decision to go "nuts." Every now and then, I do, and I'm ok with that.  Usually it is just too much effort to get to the store just for a craving IF I think about it before hand. That's why it is so important for my success that we not have the stuff around the house.

Don't sweat it too much; it won't be the end of all success as you know it unless you make too much of it. Tomorrow is another day, after all!

quote from bodybugg.com :)

A few days before and during the time you are menstruating, you do burn more calories due to the additional cellular activity taking place internally. Some female metabolisms may increase up to 15% during this time due to hormonal changes and loss of blood. The increase in metabolism can lead to an increase in appetite in order to compensate for the greater calorie burn (in the same manner that as exercise can lead to an increase in hunger), which is why some women tend to eat more or crave different foods during this time of the month. Cravings can also be caused by the hormonal changes that affect taste or thought processes. Additionally, certain foods can help sooth difficult times, thus leading to different or unusual food choices.

What all this means is that although a woman may burn more calories for a few days, she usually compensates, and depending on how one gives into cravings, over-compensates (leading to a slight weight gain).

Cool

how do u ppl know abt extra cals bein burned durin 'girl time'??

whaaaat?!
no way jose!!!!

finally, a plus to the horrid week of bein female we all endure

I should have gotten my period yesterday, but didn't and still haven't had it today, but I did have cramps earlier in the week and my cravings for sugary carby things have been crazy for about a week and a half now. (Been eating to maintenance for awhile too because of it.) I wish this damn thing would come already and go. I hate having irregular periods and furthermore having to be a chick and go through this torture every month. :P

I' kind of the weirdo.  Now that I'm eating healthy I have almost zero pms symptoms. I did have a what i'm assuming is a TOM water retention weight gain last week. But most of the other stuff is gone.  It sneaks up on me now.

I'm right there with ya sista!  I have the symptoms ( ugh) and just waiting....and waiting....and waiting.....

I have found that ever since I went off the pill (2001) my pms is so bad.  The cramps get so bad that the pain radiates down my legs.  I take narcotics for the first 24 hours.  It's intenseFrown

wistful...

Is that an extra 300 calories each day that we are on our period or is it just at the beginning ? LOL sorry stupid question.

EDIT: just saw Haleys post. Guess that answers my question. Thanks
