Is taking a bath w/ air jets safe while pregnant?

Quote  |  Reply
hi everyone-  this may seem like a dumb question; but it made me get out of the tub last night....

I took a shower last night before I got into my bath-  they say it's just cleaner to do that......but I have a tub with the air jets that are pretty powerful.  Do you think it's safe for me to take a bath while pregnant with jets?  There's just a lot of movement in the water; and I wouldn't want it to "shoot" water or bacteria up there-  I am really not trying to be graphic at all-  and the jets are hitting my lower back, feet and the sides of my legs-  nothing directly onto the stomach or anything.  Thoughts?   After my bath I took another quick shower just in case an   I must sound like a lunatic!

I thought you wern't supposed to take baths at all while pregnant.  I may be remembering wrong though.  My youngest is now 6.  The best thing to do is ask your Dr if it is ok.

I took baths all the time just adjusted the temp so not too hot.

I dont see problems with it!
i think you can take warm, not hot baths, as long as your water has not broken. once you lose the mucus plug and your water has broken there is no protection for the baby from bacteria. usually tho while pregnant the mucus plug and the amniotic sac protects the baby...which is one of the reasons you can still have sex!

probably a good thing to check with the doctor, but i think you're probably ok. i don't think the jets will do anything other than help your muscles relax....

I think the main concern with baths is the temperature, as others have said. Particularly in the first trimester, you don't want your body temperature raised too much for an extended period of time.

No, it is not safe to be in a hot tub or use the jets in your regular tub. The pressure of the jets could cause an issue with the baby! Also make sure that the temp is not too hot! I love taking HOT baths and had to give up the "HOT" when pregnant with my little girl who is not 8 months.

I left a message for my doctor.  The bath was lukewarm becuase I usually don't feel well after a very hot bath pregnant or not pregnant.  As for the jets; I purposely aimed them away from the belly; but I'm not going to take another one until  I talk to him directly.  Thanks for all your advice!  I'll let you know what the doc says.

There is nothing wrong with tub jets as long as you aren't shooting it up your crotch.  It doesn't matter if it hits the stomach and don't let the temp get too high.  Thats about it.

Ask your Dr...there are a lot of good points posted already.  But, I have a hot tub and use it a few times a week--My Dr. said it was fine as long as the temp of the water is not over 100.  Same goes for the bath water (which may be harder to regulate than a thermostat on a hot tub).

As for the jets, ditto to the no shooting up your crotch :) and no baths late in pregnancy if you've lost your mucus plug.

If you feel hot--get out!
LOL-  Yes Jets are aimed at the heels of my feet and my lower back where I ache the most.  No pointing at the goods!!!  I like lukewarm baths-  it doesn't steam and my kin doesn't turn pink and I only stay in less than 10 minutes.  So; I think we are good.  Doc said it was OK.  Phew!  I haven't taken a bath since-  I've been too busy at work; which is all the more reason why I should be soaking in it now...
