taking lexapro while nursing/preg?

Quote  |  Reply

Well  i finally been diagnosed w/ post partum and have always had anxiety, so i am now put on Lexapro. I was on it while pregnant with my first daughter b/c of my anxiety - stopped taking it and was pretty bad for probably 6 months. I never can admit to myself i have anxiety and need meds. I am still breastfeeding and w/ talking to nurses and my doctor they reassure me it is ok to take- b/c only small traces of the med will get in my milk w/ no effects.  I was extremely worried but they say its ok so i am goint to trust these peep.

I never gained any abnormal weight on the drug w/my 1st pregnancy so i am hoping that wont happen.

Has anyone had any side effects w/ weightloss or weight gain on the med-??    Anyone taking it while preg or nursing?

i think i will be fine especially if i watch what i eat and get active

sorry shauna, no experience there.

*bump*

My cousin had a manic episode on Lexapro but has regulated her doseage and seems fine now.  She wasnt pregnant or nursing at the time though.

I was on lexapro for 3 years. The second year I was pregnant and stopped taking the meds untill the end of the pregnancy. I wanted to start it up again to make sure I could handle the post pardum. I lost the baby weight pretty fast and was down to what I was before the pregnancy.

I nursed and did not notice any effects on my babies. I feel it really helped me through the post prego stuff. I would do it again in a heart beat. I am still on meds now, but I am on a sister drug called celexa. I am not happy with the results, I have gained 30 lbs since I switched. But I don't have health insurance and the price difference is huge since celexa has a generic. That's off the subject.

All in all I think if you feel you need it you can feel safe taking it. But I am no Dr, and they can be wrong too.

i have been on it for 2 weeks and so far no bad side effects- no weight gain at all- but just alot happier. Jordan is doing great to so i am glad i got on it! I would reccomend it to any new moms b/c sometimes things happen and its ok !
