Taking a Poll...How long before your were pregnant after stopping the pill?

Quote  |  Reply

My husband and I have decided that I am going off the pill in October.  We are going to "stop preventing" rather than "start trying."

I'm just wondering how long it takes for your cycle to return to "normal" after stopping the pill.  I've been on them for 7 years and I'm a little concerned.

Geez, I'm extremely fertile though, but I was pregnant almost right away. Within 2 months for sure. At the time, I had been taking the pill for about 7 or 8 years as well. I imagine everyone is a bit different. But, it was very quickly for me. Good luck to you!

I, too, am extremely fertile.

I got pregnant with my first child while taking BCPs.

I got pregnant with my second child on the first try after discontinuing the pills. The first day of my last period was January 8, 2008 and my son was born October 10th, 2008.

I had been taking the pill for 5 years before my first pregnancy and 9 years before my second.

Well I like to think of myself as extrememly fertile because it took us 8 days of trying to get pregnant lol.

But getting regular periods after stopping birth control is another matter.  I was on the pill for 9yrs prior to going on the pill I always had a regular cycle but it took 1.5yrs to get that regular cycle back.  I stopped taking the pill not because I was ready to have a baby but because I wanted my body to be natural again.

If I were you I would get off the pill as soon as possible and use condoms for prevention until you are ready to "stop preventing".

Every woman is different and stopping the pill now will increase the odds of your body being back to normal sooner rather then later.

How do you know you if you are extremely fertile?

I think the only way to know if you are "extremely fertile" is if you get pregnant really easily :P

I know this is completely irrelevant, and unhelpful, but, I got pregnant on BCP!

I agree with berryblue: if you get pregnant very easily, you're very fertile.

My doctor has nicknamed me Fertile Myrtle.

Since I've gotten pregnant once while on BCPs, we use a condom as well. If I get pregnant while using both, I should go in the Guinness Book. ;)

After 7 years of taking the pill, I messed up two days and Julia was born 9 months later :)

My family has a history of getting pregnant after 1 try.  In fact, my sister got pregnant three months after her first and had two babies 11 months apart since her youngest was born pre-mature.

I, myself, now make sure to take it every night at the same time and will not be trying for exactly one year.

Took 6 months the first time, and 1 month the second....

Was years ago tho....

with my 2nd i missed 2 days pills and got pregnant but then again my other 2 were 1 time slip ups when i wasn't on anything so i obviously am very fertile switched to the depo works great but i hear it can take a long time after it to get pregnant any comments on that?

We decided to "stop preventing" a pregnancy, but we weren't yet ready to "try" for a baby. Well, I stopped taking the pill in June 2008, had my period in July, and got pregnant in August. So I had one period without being on the pill, then I got pregnant! We never expected it to happen so fast, so be sure you're ready before you "stop preventing"!

Stopped the pill, tried one time two weeks later and got pregnant!

Was on the pill over 10yrs and it took 3mths with my first, 8mths with my second- my periods never became regular though!

I think everyone is different so don't try to compare yourself to all the fertile Myrtles that have responded...:)

I personally have never had normal periods--even in high school I would skip several months at a time, so I was started on BCPs very early--like 16, I think.  When I went off the pill, it was when I was in school and we were poor.  (I was doing the Master's program and I never saw my husband so it was kind of a waste of money!  Ha ha!)

When we finally decided to stop trying to prevent--my periods were still not normal and my OB checked me to see if I was even ovulating--which I was not and so she ended up putting me on clomid to help my body do what it was supposed to do.  We had already been "trying" for I think around 6 months.

I have two beautiful children now, but making babies isn't always so cut and dry.  Let your OB know you've decided to start trying.  And if it doesn't happen as quickly for you as it did for some of these ladies, don't stress about it!  (Stress is the worst thing IMHO for baby making.)

Most of all ENJOY the process!  I think it was the most enjoyable that it had ever been during that time because my body didn't have any foreign hormones in it (BCP) and we didn't have to worry about getting preggers!  Good luck to you!

2 months

My best friend thought it would take a while for the meds to work their way out of her system since she had taken them for so long.  She thought she had several months before anything would happen.  She was pregers one month later.  She told me make sure you are ready for a baby when you stop taking the pill.

It took me 2 years of "not trying" and a little trying to get preggo after stopping the pill.  I was on for 9 years before that.

Speaking as one of the NON fertile-Myrtles, I stopped taking BCP in Nov (after about 5-6 years), got my regular periods by March and we didn't get pregnant til the following January, so from the time I stopped BCP, to the time we finally conceived was 15 months.

And this is with extremely regular cycles and tracking them religiously every month. So we were very much actively trying. The month I conceived, I went on a business trip by myself to someplace new. I think that helped take some of the edge off, I was so focused on not getting lost.

My cycle was regular immediately after stopping the pill after 10 years (which was strange, since I was never regular before). I was pregnant after two months. This pattern had definitely not been the same for other women I know, some of whom are still trying 6-8 months later....

I was on the pill for 9 or 10 years and after stopping taking it my period never became regular so it took me nearly one and a half year to get pregnant.

I am assuming though that "stress" had something to do with that.. cause I was "expecting" to become pregnant all the time.. I was a little nervous although I was looking forward to it, etc.. but when it never happened and one test after another came back negative I got to the point where I relaxed and stopped thinking about it, but just got that 'when it happens, it happens, but I don't expect anything'-attitude.. and that was when it finally happened! Of course, then it hit me out of the blue.. *lol
