Lets talk workout MUSIC!

Quote  |  Reply

I've just started jogging again (after a looong 5 year unhealthy break in my life) and as a reward I bought an Ipod.   Music has always been an inspiration to me while jogging and it keeps my mind busy and my spirits up.

So here's the question... what music do you have on your mp3 player?  I'm looking for fun, upbeat music to download.  Got any suggestions?

THANKS!

I LOVE to walk and I LOVE my iPod. I'm young, but I'm an old soul, so I have all the classics on there as well as a few sentimental favorites from my childhood. A lot of Journey's stuff is upbeat and empowering as well as Billy Joel and Styx. As a true child of the 90's, I love me some NSync. I've also got some Nick Lachey, Queen, Smash Mouth, MxPx, LFO, Rick Springfield, Aretha Franklin, Carly Simon, The Beatles, The Eagles, etc. I normally skip over the slow songs when I'm walking and walk to the beat of the upbeat ones. It's pretty outside today in Tennessee, and 64 degrees! I'm so going for a walk after lunch. Keep up the good work and keep shrinking incredibly!

My favorite upbeat music is by Over It.  I bought their album "Step Outside Yourself" and it's full of upbeat music.  I later bought "Silverstrand" because I loved their latest album so much.  I haven't yet really listened to anything beyond those two albums, but I would definitely give those guys a shot if you don't mind pop-rock.

Some of my other favorite music that makes me want to move right now (is more pop-rock):

"Dance Hall Drug" - Boys Like Girls

"Second Solution" - The Living End

"I Can't Give You What I Haven't Got" - The Living End

"Take A Photograph" - Dropping Daylight

"Til You Feel Something" - Dropping Daylight

"Apologies" - Dropping Daylight

"Now You Know" - We Are The Fury

"French Kiss Off" - The Juliana Theory

"This Valentine Ain't No Saint" - The Juliana Theory

"More" -  Stealing Jane

"Red Letter Box" - Seems So Bright

 "If It's My Game, I Can't Lose" - Scenes From A Movie

"There Are More Frightening Things..." - My American Heart

I have a "PIoneer Inno" xm radio which records up to 5 hours of tunes I can either record from the xm radio and store or download mp3's I currently have it set for 50 /50

My personal favorite workout tunes / playlists are mostly mid to late 70's and early 80's  yea disco is in the mix but also a lot of new wave dance tunes.  One of my all time faves for fast moving workout is "temples of Syrnx" by Rush and "Walking in LA" by Missing Persons.  Just something about these tunes gets me wanting to move  Temples is especially good for doing HIIT -- the warm up section and then to try to keep up to the pace after the explosion is great for running steps.

Adam Ant, Alice Cooper and the Clash also make good tunes to move to.

GREAT suggestions so far!  THANKS!

Black Eyed Peas, Queen ("Don't Stop Me Now," "Fat Bottomed Girls," "Under Pressure,"), Kanye West ("Stronger" is perfect), Old 80s hits ("Tainted Love," "I Believe in a Thing Called Love," "Ghostbusters" theme), "Toxic."

I came across two podcasts that I have subscribed to.  Every week there is a new one, so it keeps things interesting.  It has a steady BPM so it really helps me keep my pace.

sometimes this

or Static-X, White Zombie, Noisex, Skinny Puppy, Orgy, Cannibal, Ministry, !!!, The 22-20's... etc etc

lately it has been the new Pinback album for loooong walks when we get a break in the rain and snowstorms :)

I love listening to Bon Jovi's Keep the Faith album....awesome!!!!! I love all there music, and listen to it all, but Keep the Faith has the most fast-paced up beat songs...awesome!!!!!!!!

Anything and everything that's upbeat and that'll keep you moving with the beat. I just did out a playlist of all my upbeat songs (well, all the ones that I know I love) to work out to, it came to about 400 songs, so plenty of variety! Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell" is one of my absolute favorites, as are the upbeat poppy things like "Hit Me Baby One More Time" or 80s classics like Pat Benitar's "Love is a Battlefield". I think that's one of the main things bringing me back to the gym, getting to listen to really upbeat music for long chunks of time (40-50 mins).

(Rebel yell is fantastic for it, I know I said it already but I can't recommend it enough! Sometimes I increase the speed of the treadmill just to get more movement to it)

I don't bother with the "upbeat" aspect to my music. I listen to mostly metal these days and there's few cheerful songs. I've got slower stuff like The Gathering and heavier stuff like Turisas plus bands somewhere in between like Volbeat, Nightwish, & Ayreon. Soon will be adding the new Mercenary & Amorphis albums. Or if I just want some really fast music to keep me going, Cellador is a great choice.

Volbeat's cover of I Only Wanna Be With You is one of the few upbeat songs I could say I have on my playlist.
Most songs by Mudvayne get me pumped...especially "Determined".

I find that I cant even work out with any stamina unless I have my ipod with me. I recently changed my library over to my friends and found that her music tastes were not like mine and working out to her music slows me down. I like to listen to alot of electro house or any techno really ... also I love to run alongside some good nickelback, its really good music to get that anger out and makes you feel strong.

I swear by Foo Fighters!  They have a lot of great songs that really just want to make you move and kick someone's butt!  (*including your own*) even if I am on the treadmill to just walk when 'Pretender' comes on I start running no matter how tired I am because it is just that awesome!
I go for industrial with a little pop-punk and metal thrown into the mix.

Relient K
Avril Lavigne
Sum41
Bowling for Soup

Metallica

Then a few odds and ends here and there for good measure.
