tall club 5'10'' and over ladies who want to lose 20-30 lbs... join me for weekly weigh-ins and motivation!!
Lauren in San Diego here (5'11''). I was up to almost 180 lbs at the end of last year and I lost about 10 pounds during Jan-Feb and then got lazy. I need to get back on the wagon. I think I weigh around 170 and I would like to be 150. Weigh in on Fridays for me starting tomorrow. I would love to chat with others who have similar stats and goals to stay motivated. All my girlfriends are little petites, I need some amazon love!!
Let's look hot and healthy this summer!!!
okay...pic uploaded. It's weird that I can see the gallery pics...and they are set to public.....grrrr
Nice! You're really looking good and I can definitely see a difference. You've really lost from all over, not one place thatI can pick out and say "that's where it came from", lucky you! You have a really nice hourglass figure, lucky you again!
I was about to throw something...I swear I'm not really that technically inept! GLAD they finally worked--I'll put up the rest tonight!
Thanks for the comments Etah. What I've really noticed is that as good as i THOUGHT i looked now, I have A LOT of room for improvement :). Keeps the motivation up! Yea, I'm hourglass to the extreme--my waist is 13 inches smaller than my butt *yikes*...I wouldn't mind that ratio coming down a bit!!! Makes me feel good that other people can see the change too :). Thanks again.
Hi all, I was lurking. I'm in the "other tall group" but nobody's posting lately. And I like to chat. Can I join up with you guys too? I've lost 22 lbs so far with CC and the forums are a great support system for me! Etahbear jumped in and said hi to us a while back, and wow, girl, you look great!

Welcome Ofelia :). Congrats on the 22lbs-that's amazing!
The rest of my pics are up *hopefully* and *finally* :)
Ofelia!!! Welcome to the dark side. Actually I don't know what that means, everyone in this group is amazing and I'm fairly sure we fight evil without even knowing it, we're just that good. Congratulations on the weight loss so far and welcome! post away!
Init!! Your stomach looks amazing I'm SO JEALOUS!! I can't wait to have a stomach like that someday. I'm putting on my letter to Santa right at the top. And look at you, you're going to the gun show baby. Yeah, you can definitely see the improvements, way to go girl.
Wow Erin! You look GREAT!!! congrats on your work! Init, you look great as well! I am going to try to post some pics tonight for comparison purposes, though I don't really have any "official" beginnign pics, so we will see! In other news I weighed in at 150.5 today- but I'm not counting it until it lasts a few days. im out!
ps- welcome to the group ofelia, that is a pretty name!
so the 150.5 seems to be holding, which is VERY exciting! Hoping to see 140s by next week? Doable? I think so! Have a great weekend everyone!

I think I need to take a break from the scale for awhile, I'm letting it rule my life again. I started weighing myself every day, sometimes twice a day again and the number tells me how my whole day is going to be. Today I saw a small gain. I took a 4 day splurge weekend for my son's birthday last week so I knew this was going on but I still let it upset me and then I spent the rest of the morning being horrible to my children, yelling and screaming and being way too harsh. It's ridiculous behavior. I am going to try to not weigh in at all for a few weeks, not measure myself, just eat right and exercise and do my thing without the scale and hope that makes me a happier person. I also need to realize that even though I'm still about 8 lbs from my perfect happy weight I'm a normal healthy weight and I look as thin as I would 8 lbs away anyway, I'm way too tall for 8 lbs to make much of a difference. Basically it's attitude adjustment time for me for a few weeks so I won't be weighing in but I'll be around.
WTG on holding the loss, Danielle! I think you can definitely do it if you put your mind to it.
Hi All,
Inittowinit1, you've made amazing changes. I am shaped just like you (or at least I used to be, before the middle age spread started) but don't look as firm at the moment! I also admire you putting those pictures up.. I'm way too chicken to be seen in a bathing suit!
I've had a tough week, starting with a migraine and continuing with a stomach bug - not enough to put me down and out, but just enough to make each day a bit of a downer. On the positive side tho, it has put me back down to 198 for the week. It's a tough way to lose, but I'll take it.
Etahbear, better hide the scale so you don't look at it each morning - that will help. I know what you mean about it ruling your day.
Welcome Ofeliajones! It's nice to have some company here in our march towards 180.
Inittowinit! Dang! You are rock'n that 2 piece. Excellent work!
Etahbear, taking a break is an excellent part of the motivation process (I think). You look fabulous. If you succeed, you may motivate me to let go as well. Even though I'm maintaining, I'm scared to let go of the scale or counting...though I feel I'm getting closer to breaking free. Didn't weigh myself on Wednesday and couldn't believe it. Just forgot. So close!
Danielle! You made it to 150! *bows* How are you liking Boston?
Welcome Ofelia. I've also browsed through the other "tall girls" groups and honestly, this one is da bomb! We have an interesting change over, so as some of the originals leave some new gals join. There are always about 5-10 active members at a time and we lose weight fast! So we need new people to keep the thread alive as the more senior members (like myself) reach their goal. Though I can't seem to leave.
Yoga44, sorry you've been sick. I've so far managed to elude any of the illness that captures people during this season...but my nose is a bit sniffly and my throat is sore in the morning (and its been tough dragging myself out of bed). I don't want to be sick! Nooooooooo.
Have a fabulous weekend all! I'm having a cocktail party at my house tomorrow night and wish all of you could be there. How much fun would that be? I'll bet we have more in common than weight-loss and height.
Danielle- Great work! Are you getting settled in your new place? Only a few more weeks until your marathon right?
Etah- Not weighing yourself sounds like a good idea and then in a month you will be able to see real results without all the day to day variability. Also your new pic is beautiful you look really really thin.
Init- I can really see a difference in the pics. What a good idea I bet it is a great motivator to see all the changes. I wish I had taken some before pics. Also taking your advice and trying to get started lifting. It always seems there are huge muscle bound men looking at themselves in the mirror and i feel out of place by myself lifting the 15lb dumbells... I need to get over it I guess.
yoga- Feel better!
Ofelia- Welcome
Skookum- You have inspired me with the pumpkin food. I bought I bunch of pumpkin at the store this week and plan on making some yummy fall pumkin things.
I think I MIGHT have finally lost a pound. I think the scale said 158 this am. I have one of those very old analog scales and it is kinda hard to distinguish the one pound increments from so far away. Next week I go home to my parents and will weigh self on fancy digital scale with body fat measurements. That is the scale I started all my weight loss efforts on but then I moved too far away to go home regularly. I am excited to see if anything is really changing!!
Memphiskate - I have an old analog scale too! It has about a 3 lbs variance, depending on which way you lean on it. It keeps me from getting too obsessed about an exact number. I have to look at the trend, rather than the absolute number. I think everyone should have one of those.
Thanks everyone for your feel-better wishes. I think I'm over it, but cross your fingers as both my kids are sick with colds now ![]()
Hi Everyone! Thanks so much for the comments :).
Etah-wow, thank you--I'm putting "as slim as etah" on my wish list!
Danielle-congrats on the 150 holding! That's great!
Yogs-thanks! I think because no one knows me here I'm okay with the pics! Bummer about the bug...hope you're kids are okay
.
skooks-thank you :). how was the cocktail party?! that sounds FUN!
Hi Kate-there ARE huge guys in the gym but if you can put on a confident face and look like you know what you're doing they'll be in awe of a chick lifting heavy weights. You can do it!
I will post new pics at 166lbs (10 more lbs). That seems like a far-away goal at the moment. I've been absent because I took last week off. I went to the gym on tuesday and could only bring myself to walk for 45 min. I was toast. So I upped cals to maintenance, slept a lot, watched a lot of TV, and celebrated my hubs' bday with him on saturday where i ate WAY too much in the form of oreos and beer *eek*! Oh well, I was back on track yesterday with an awful salad from the cheesecake factory. it was only awful compared to my hubs' tantilizing turkey/avocado club sammy with fries and ranch! Oh well, I stayed under maintenance yesterday so go me :).
My cals will be about 1800-2000 this week and I have started a new lifting program as well, incorporating tabata training. I've never done it before but omg i almost puked this morning. You all are going to say "that's not hard" because I thought that too...until that awful salad was making it's way up my throat!!!!!!!!!!!! It's the original interval training and I've spent the last week researching it. It is THE most efficient way to burn fat according to what i've read. It takes 3-8 minutes and you'll be done. I used a jump rope today but the articles I've read also say squat thrusts and sprinting work (not on a treadmill). It's 20 seconds balls to the wall and 10 seconds rest--repeat that 6 times. By the fourth round I was barely twirling the rope! You add rounds as you get better. So I'm doing this after my new weight lifting routine on MWF and doing other interval training (a 1 minute hard:2minute rest ratio for 20-25 min including 5 min warm up and cool down) on TTH.
I'll re-evaluate at Thanksgiving where I am, if i need to up cals, etc. I've also read a lot on eating a lot :). It seems that you will get better results (ie, leaner) with eating more calories and expending more energy than just limiting calories without as much exercise. Just food for thought.
Have a great week!
Hi girls,
I'm brand new to CC, but was so excited to see that there are other tall girls out there who are wanting to lose weight, too! Mind if I jump in? Here are my stats:
Name: Mandy
Height: 5'11"
SW: 257.8 (yesterday!)
CW: 255.8
Goal 1 by 02/22/09 (trip): 215
Goal 2 by 09/05/09 (my b-day): 185
From: Texas
Funny fact: My best friend is 4'11", no joke.
Interests: Spending time with family, sand volleyball, watching movies at home, BBQ'ing and drinks with good friends.
Long story short: I was in great shape (for me) about 3 1/2 years ago, but it all started going downhill when I took a new high-stress job with late hours. I gained 53lbs in that short period of time and hate the way I feel right now - I miss being active! I've traded going to the gym daily and playing on several volleyball leagues for working late and a completely sedentary lifestyle...yuck! I'm tired of waiting for things to get better - time to become proactive again and make it happen!
Welcome to the new people since ive been away. Well one week in Spain eating whatever I wanted, literally 3 times my normal intake but also 3 times my normal activity, I knew it wouldnt balance out but seriously putting on 6lbs in one week is excessive! hopefully a lot is water weight but I dunno, put back on my work trousers this morning and they barely closed up, ugh.. still was very enjoyable not worrying about every single calorie for a week, 6 weeks or so until Christmas, so a lb drop a week until then is my mission!!
Welcome Mandybean!! It's great to see new faces in the club. My best friend is 5' and I'm 6'1.5", I feel like a gorilla around her...a hot gorilla though.
Carol, if you do the math you would have had to have eaten 21,000 calories more than you burned to really gain 6 lbs. of fat. I'll bet most of that water weight drops off within a week or two. I'm so glad you had a wonderful trip and enjoyed every part of it!
Aw thanks Etah, thats very sweet, well the thing that worries me is maybe i did consume 21,000 cals over my burn, i dont have a clue i really wasnt counting, which was such a relief really cos you worry sometimes you dont have the capacity to switch off that mode of thinking and then you have a problem, I'm trying to be sensible now by eating as normal and trying not to cut back too much and at least some will come off over the next couple of weeks!
OK, well let's break it down even more. For Halloween I'm going to be making for my family a yellow cake with pudding filling and dark chocolate ganache . The cake is made using 8 egg YOLKS, butter, sugar, etc. It is the most sinfully rich high fat and calorie cake. I put the recipe into the analyzer today to see how much real food I'd have to cut out of my life that day to squeeze in a good sized piece of cake. So I just whipped out my handy calculator to do some math for you. In order for you to have gained 6 lbs of pure fat you would have to have eaten 4 WHOLE egg yolk yellow cakes filled with pudding and slathered in chocolate ganache in addition to all of the calories that you burned. So all the exercise you got and the calories you burn just by being alive takes up a huge amount of calories and after all those you'd have to sit down and eat 4 ENTIRE enormous double layer-pudding filled-dark chocolate and heavy cream coated monsters to actually gain 6 lbs. I guarantee you didn't eat that many calories but imagine the calories I could have been burning instead of figuring all this out :)
By the way, I did the same thing a couple weeks ago- took 4 days off for my son's birthday celebration weekend and ate like a pig. I gained 7 lbs, freaked out, they're mostly all gone now.
Hey everyone! My name is Katie I am new to CC as well, but I was so happy to see a tall girls group on the site (I'm 5'11" or 6' depending on the day)! I graduated college last spring and now I have finally decided to buckle down and lose the rest of the weight that I gained during college. I went to college weighing around 145 and then went a bit crazy with the drinking and dining hall food and got up to about 185 my sophomore year. Thanks to cutting back I am now in the 160s and this morning I weighed in at 162. My goal is to get back around 145 and I would love to participate in weekly weigh-ins and also chat with other tall girls on the path to weight loss!!
