tall club 5'10'' and over ladies who want to lose 20-30 lbs... join me for weekly weigh-ins and motivation!!
Lauren in San Diego here (5'11''). I was up to almost 180 lbs at the end of last year and I lost about 10 pounds during Jan-Feb and then got lazy. I need to get back on the wagon. I think I weigh around 170 and I would like to be 150. Weigh in on Fridays for me starting tomorrow. I would love to chat with others who have similar stats and goals to stay motivated. All my girlfriends are little petites, I need some amazon love!!
Let's look hot and healthy this summer!!!
Know what you mean, Dawn - I have been out of work since August so don't have the temptation of leftover candy at the office, but I did buy a truckload of candy at Wal-Mart today at 75% off. I even bought the kinds I like. Since I am not currently working but am doing an on-line medical transcription course which I can do at my own pace, whenever I want to study, I go for 1-2 hour workouts during the day, and have the ability to "finish off" my calories to reach the 1,000 calorie deficit at the end of the day. I have noticed, however, that if I allow myself to eat candy - even if I am well within the deficit - that I have a tendency to stall my weight loss. Don't know what makes those calories so different, but they sure are! I won't eat anything that I don't have the calorie count for ahead of time (no surprises, thank you very much) and won't eat calories I haven't ALREADY burned off.
Went to Red Lobster with my husband to celebrate the anniversary of the day we met 27 years ago, knowing I had 1,200 calories left before my 1,000 calorie deficit and was dissapointed that the only foods they have nutrition information available for are the ones on the Lighthouse Menu, which is posted on their website as well. I left there with another 500 calories available, and would have loved to share a dessert with him but they don't list what the desserts "cost" calorie-wise, and the cake looks like 1,000 - 1,200 calories to me! Someone said the law had passed and restaurants would be required to list nutritional info for all items on the menu by the end of next year, but I don't have confirmation. Does anybody know?
Meg, I can't be anything other than an omnivore - if I try to skip any particular type of food that I like it becomes a huge craving which I will eventually give in to and binge - if I allow myself to eat ANYTHING as long as I have worked it off FIRST (I don't trust myself to work it off once I've eaten it) I generally either lose the craving, or am satisfied with just a taste of the treat.
Krissteinbauer - I know wht you mean. If I try to eliminate any food group I crave it as well. When I first started losing I was very strict, now that I am getting closer to my goal I am much more relaxed with what I eat, if it fits in my calorie count, I eat it. I figure that is the way I am going to live, so even though it is coming off much more slowly now, it is still coming off and that is what matters.
I had a great weigh in today....SW 213....CW 141.8....GW 135. I was down 1.2 lbs from last Friday so I am very pleased.
okiewoman: OMG you have lost so much since your SW, congrats, you are so close now, bet you never thought you'd see the day. Just wanted to sat weldone.
Its nice now this group has little bit of experienced losers and new starters to offer advice.
My own advice to anyone would be to plan out your meals and calories in the morning, so you know what ought to be your intake if you don't stray and then before you do you can think.. so if i eat this i'll have X amount eaten today if I don't i'll have Y, is it worth the difference to me or the feeling of yay I achieved this little daily goal for myself! That's just me though, you need to know what works for you.
So today is good day, weigh in wise, I'm back to the 128, 1 lb above where I was before my holiday, and I really am more comfortable just those two or three lbs below 130lb. So i'm back within tasting distance of my goal now. Those last few won't budge!

Thanks for the welcome Carolally. My goodness...you are TINY!! I know what you mean about moving goals....mine was 160 and when I got there relatively easily it moved to 143, then 138 and now I am thinking 133. That gives me wiggle room where I won't freak out with water weight gains, etc. I am wearing smaller jeans than I ever thought possible....I was washing the new ones a couple of nights ago and when I took them out of the dryer I thought there is no way my big fat (#* is going to fit in those, but it did
! It was a pretty great feeling.
Still holding steady at 154. Maintenance is great!
Mom is coming into town this weekend...so I'm gonna need to test myself at keeping my "emotional eating" at bay.
Happy Friday!
Okiewoman - thanks again. You're right! I'm a lazy food tracker - thats why WW always peters out for me. I have great computer access at work, but not at home. So I'm ok durring the day, but lose it at night. It is all in the planning - so that is what I'm going to work on this weekend. I did take a 45 min walk this AM, and have plans for another with my son after work.
Just reading all the posts, and checking in on everyones progress is helping.
Thanks!![]()
Dawn - congrats on the walk! I didn't make it to one today, but I have been out and about since 7 this morning so I at least haven't been sitting around.....I do want to sit and finish my book, but I will wait until tonight!
krisstein, don't worry, you didn't disapoint me! I am still very happy about the recommendadtions! the town you lived in with the pedestrian village sounds so cute! I'm still not sure what time of year we are going but I think its going to end up being this spring- cant wait!
skookum- thanks for the compliments, you have achieved something amazing as well!
Dawn- thanks for the congrats. sorry to hear about your tough week, but I'm sure next week will be better! and as always, you are welcome to vent here, thats what we're all here for!
Meg- WELCOME BACK LADY!!! you know I've been wondering where you went! If your looking to get your motivation back you've come to the right place! you are welcome to send me a message if you ever need encouragement!
okiewoman- congrats on your impressive loss! You must feel so accomplished! 140 is a goal of mine I don't think I will ever see. How do you continue to loose pounds despite being at a fairly low weight for your height? I am having the most difficult time! ( i guess it doen't help that I am eating ellio's pizza as I type this!)
Carol- glad to hear things all balanced out for you since returning from your trip. best of luck with those last few lbs! btw you look great in your new pics- surely an inspiration to all of us!
heres my update: SW- 162 CW- 150 (up 2 lbs from Monday- boo!) height- 5'10''
goals for the weekend:
1. resume running!! sick of being lazy post-marathon!
2. don't drink a lot! limit to 1 night, no more than 4 drinks!
3. don't fall off track b/c its the weekend!
Does anyone have any meal ideas that feel like a cheat but aren't terribly bad for you? I have the hungry girl cookbook which I really enjoy, but I'm sick of my favs in there. any ideas would help :)
-Danielle
Okiewoman - are you ready something great? I'm always on the prowl for my next read.
Danielle - great marathon pic. I like you weekend goals. It is easy to fall off track for me too on the weekends. Time to stay focused!
Etah, I've been doing okay maintaining on 1800-2000. However I don't increase my calories over that on workout days (run about 2mi 3x a week). It's also been difficult for me to eat the same kinds of foods I was eating while keeping a deficit. Too much filling food on my menu! So I also need to make some adjustments (besides using candy to meet calorie goals).
Great progress this week ladies!
Surprise surprise I am the same weight another week still 159 and not budging. Although when I was home I got my body fat analyzed and I was down 1% since when I moved (about 3 months). So even though I haven't lost a pound since July, I guess the mass is getting rearranged. My Body Fat is still 23% as measured at my gym but I am getting closer to my goal of 20% to be in the "athlete" category again.
Since my current program seems to be great for maintaining but not for losing I am going to have to change it up. I like Danielle's goals list so here is mine.
1. Lift arm weights x2 weekly, Legs x1or2 weekly and continue my mileage
2. Only one soda a day and increase water from 2 quarts to 3.
3. Plan all my calories in the AM so I know what snacks I can and cannot have.
Hope you all have a great weekend!
I am avenged for last week's 0.2 - this week is 2.0! Like the digits much better in that order.
Ht 6'0" SW 279.8 GW 180 CW 231.4 - next week I should hit the half-way mark!
It seems like everyone in this group is making so much progress. I'm so proud of the amazons, we are so kick @ss at this. Congratulations all you losers!
wow, look at all of us :) :)
danielle-the marathon, I can't believe i missed that-congrats!!! that's amazing! and you LOOK amazing in that running gear! It's weird because we kind of look alike (face-wise) so I'm trying to imagine your body on my face...you are my goal!
Well ladies, I weighed in at 177 on thursday (down .4 from last week...i'm happy with that) but then friday i weighed 180.2...i even cut sodium on thursday. Hmm, i don't typically weigh myself daily but i might start. I want to use my own scale but i need a battery. Maybe this week I'll get on that. In other weight news my pants fit lovely, my measurements are the same or down in all categories so I'm not really sure what's going on with my weight. I'm going to bring my cals down a bit for the next few weeks. they've been a bit high the last 2 so that might be the reason. i've averaged probably 2400/day which can probably explain the zero loss/gain in weight! so i'm bringing it down to 2000 lifting days, 1800 cardio days, 1500 rest days (sat and sun). so we'll see how that goes till thanksgiving...hope i can drop below 175 and keep it steady there.
have a great day ladies!
*Sigh* No loss for me this week. But no gain either. Still at 197-8ish.
I've gone down a pants size, so that's something! Absolutely trashed my knees while coaching my basketball team, so I've got to watch that. They are not used to quick turns, and I can't do without my knees at the moment - gotta keep on hikin'!
Book recommendation for y'all: Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver. I am enjoying it, especially the part about the chickens, as I have just started raising chickens.
Danielle- I thought of you today because in my Lucky magazine from November the boutique focus section was on Boston! There looked like there were some really cute stores. It might be fun to take a look at if you are looking for places to shop there- which I am sure you need new clothes after all the progress.
Yoga- What kind of chickens do you have? My mom has Oracanas, Buff Orpingtons and Arkansas Reds. I looooooooooove them when they are chicks!
Kris- Great Work 2lb loss is awesome!
kate- thanks for the suggestion! I <3 shopping!!! I will definitely have to check out the mag!
yoga44- **yay** for being down a size! I almost find that to be MORE rewarding than a drop on the scale, becasue at least you know its real! Sometimes the scale is so crazy, I don't know WHAT to make of it! keep at it girlie, you are doing great! I will check out the book later, g2g get ready for work!
-Danielle
yoga44 - I'll take you up on that book reccomendation. I enjoy Barabara Kingslover.. Also noted some similarities between you and I - age, same weight range, and as a UCSC alum, similar stompin' grounds! Congratulations on being down a size - thats great!
I'm working hard on drinking more water, did a 45 min walk this morning, and a 60 min one on the weekend. I've got my fingers crossed for a good weigh in this week.
dawnvb67- Great job, and good luck this week!
I'm down 6 lbs, so now it's
sw: 200 cw: 194 ( pretty sure) gw:157
I didn't work out tonight though and I have to get some surgery Wednesday that's going to slow my progress a little bit. I'm hopeful though.
It said if I consume 1350 calories a day I can be at my goal weight by May 30 2009 !!! How exciting!!!
