Lauren in San Diego here (5'11'').  I was up to almost 180 lbs at the end of last year and I lost about 10 pounds during Jan-Feb and then got lazy.  I need to get back on the wagon.  I think I weigh around 170 and I would like to be 150.  Weigh in on Fridays for me starting tomorrow.  I would love to chat with others who have similar stats and goals to stay motivated.  All my girlfriends are little petites, I need some amazon love!!

Let's look hot and healthy this summer!!!

*Sigh* No loss for me this week.  But no gain either.  Still at 197-8ish.

I've gone down a pants size, so that's something!  Absolutely trashed my knees while coaching my basketball team, so I've got to watch that.  They are not used to quick turns, and I can't do without my knees at the moment - gotta keep on hikin'!

Book recommendation for y'all: Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver.  I am enjoying it, especially the part about the chickens, as I have just started raising chickens.

I grew up raising chickens, I actually used to keep them in my bedroom as chicks in a kiddie-pool with the warming lamp until they were big enough to go out into the coop haha.

No weigh in for me this past Friday since I was fearful of the effects of PMS but I've stuck more or less to my goal of 1600 cals, plus or minus 200 here and there. I have also managed to stick to my 1 hour morning dog walk/run despite the decline in temperature, 26 degrees to be precise. In other news, while I don't have a weight loss to report I slipped on a dress this morning that wouldn't zip in August but now has plenty of room everywhere.

I've also noticed that my nearly two year devotion to Pilates is beginning to payoff. I'm finally beginning to see the abs that I knew were under that flab all along!

Everyone -- great work on your continued accomplishments. Seeing your progress is certainly motivating me to stick with this lifestyle change.

Lindsayanne: thats so great, weldone on fitting into that dress, I bought a dress recently that I had tried on a few weeks before in the store, so I figured fine I'll finally buy it, proceeded to put it on whilst away on hols and it wouldn't close! Agh, sucky feeling, My aim is to zip that mofo up before christmas!

carolally - stick with it girl! you'll get in that dress!!

I know what you mean about that sucky feeling. I desperatly need some new slacks for work, but I hate to shop, and I'm terrified I'd be in 18s. 16s were hard enough to buy, but I just can't go up another size. I saw 8, 10, 12 and 14 go by - I'm holding at 16, and eager to get back to a 12! My slacks just have to hold out a while longer...

I did my walk, and haven't blown my calories today - looking good so far!

genesis22 - hope all goes well for you today! Take it easy and spend your energy on recovery.

dawnvb67 - Thank you, I am very sore but I am sticking to my diet so hopefully things will keep progressing.

genesis22 - glad to hear you are OK...  Per your earlier comment, I'm finding lots of people had chickens growing up... now I can give that distinction to my kids! Laughing

I FINALLY lost another pound.  I know that the way I'm going about this my loss is going to be slow, but sometimes it just seems impossible.  But at 196, I've now lost 10 lbs from my all-time high in June, and 4 lbs from my original starting point over a year ago.

I was reading a More magazine last night (I'm not a big magazine person, but I bought it to support my daughter's school) and there was an article about women in their 40s and what motivations work best to keep them exercising for the long haul.  According to this study, exercising for stress relief and mental health keeps women going longer than just wanting to lose weight.  I guess a lot of women in their 40s, who used to lose weight by exercising when younger, get frustrated that it doesn't work as well anymore (I can attest to that) and give up.  I'm not giving up...

HI ladies, happy Friday to you all,

I'm not weighing in this Friday as I think I may have had the biggest binge in at least a year last night, I'm not sure really what triggered it, I just went mental on cereal first of all, then had a healthy dinner, although way over my planned intake for the day, and to top it all off, I hounded down at least half a large movie popcorn and about 500 calories worth of malteasers candy, I literally must have lost my mind! It is sooo not like me! anyway new day and trying to just get back to normal, but I still feel sick and can't manage breakfast! I have a wholemeal scone sitting looking at me for the last two hours, and I usually love them. I'm pretty mad at myself as I was just getting back to normal after my vacation, hopefully it won't set me back too much, it must've been 2000 calories over my usual intake, so maybe 1500 cals which ought to be .5lb gain but knowing how my body works, it'll be at least 1.5lb gain, I really just have to look at food to gain, unfortunately!

Goal for weekend, Eat super healthy, saty away from carbs, drink a ton of water and get out and walk/run at least 2 hours over the next 2 days.

I really just needed to vent today, sorry for the self indulgence of it.

Good luck ladies!!

yogs-i'm going really slow too :p. it's okay! what has helped me this time (one of the many weight-loss attempts) is to tell myself that i will ALWAYS have to workout and I will ALWAYS ahve to count cals. so when i get tired of working out or counting cals i just realize that i'm always going to have to do it and i'll be miles further from my goal if i stop now.

Carol-sorry about the binge :( that sucks. just write it off as one night and move on which it looks like you are doing. maybe you need to raise cals a bit daily? i know i get especially bingy after vacation because i want to eat everything in site because i'm still in that 'relax' mode! good luck today.

Well, my weigh ins have been daily this week (for the most part) because i'd like to track my weight more closely. from last week till this week it's been swinging about 5lbs in the mornings. must've been retaining some water or something! so i'm at an all-time new low...175.2. pretty nice and i hope it sticks. my new goal for thanksgiving is to be around 174-175 pretty firmly. this past week it's been 175-180 so hopefully i can get the swings closer to the 175 by then. I'm pretty happy though, measurements are doing well although not going down as quickly as i'd like them to. i've decided that i will measure on my lowest weight day each week! today was one of my high days and i measured today and didn't lose much :( (could it have been the 2400 calories i ate yesterday??? ;)).  oh well, onward and upward!

oh...i am SO looking forward to thanksgiving. I am going to stuff myself with all the food i love for that one day. that one glorious day...YUM!

I'm all over the place with maintenance. Guess I'm a natural born zig-zagger. This week I'm actually down to 153 (maintenance of 155), but am sure to be back up to 155lbs because that's just how my body does it.

I've still been eating healthy, less candy, mediocre with the running, clothes still fit, boys still chasing. Sounds like success to me!

Have a great weekend all!

Hi Ladies....no weigh in for me this week.  I am out of town and don't have my trusty scales.  I am eating more than normal but I am also walking around a lot.  We logged almost 12 miles yesterday and almost 11 miles today.  I think I earned my cheese pizza and slice of bread with butter!!!  I am hopeful that I will hold my own or even lose a lb by my weigh in next Friday.  Wish me luck!!!

Did I scare everyone off?

okiewoman, great job on the workouts, you are a motivator!  Also well done to everyone else!

Carol- after reading your binge, I was like ehhh not even THAT bad!!  I think its good you held off on a weigh-in, no need.  The bloat will dissapear within a day or so and with your crazy awesome  willpower you will be fine!  also, just think of it as "irish thanksgiving" bc on this side of the pond I'm sure ALLL of us will be having a veryyyy high cal day next Thurs.  No biggie!  You are still an inspiration to me!

Skookum, I am a natural zig-zagger as well!  Over the past two weeks I've had a TEN lb range!  I've seen numbers from 148-158!! Wow, when I saw 158 I wanted to **Cry** luckily I sortof knew it was due to the previous two days eating almost *cringe* 3500-4000 mg of sodium each day, and then getting ttom the next day!

I weighed in yesterday at 152, but it was in the early evening, when I usually weigh-in first thing in the morning.  also, I had shorts  & sports bra on as I was at the gym.

Goals for this week:

1. buy a scale!

2. eat healthy meals, limit snacking!

3.  workout at least 5x this week!

I am up in Boston full time now, and I think its going to actually be good for the weight.  I am on the 5th floor of my building, and there is an elevator, but I've made a pact that unless I'm carrying something quite heavy I will take stairs!  Also I walk a ton around my neighborhood/the city b/c I don't want to drive bc its impossible to find a parking spot lol.  Drinking could end up being a slight problem.  During marathon training I was drinking MAYBE 1 time a week, or less than that, and even then rarely more than 1-2 drinks.  Now I'm living with a college roomie, have a ton of my friends up here, bars literally outside my front door, and I'm ready to meet some boyssssss!  I guess as long as I'm good with my other goals a bit of fun won't hurt, no?

Have a great week everyone!  Lets all be good this week so we can rightfully enjoy the holiday next week!

Joining!

5'11 and currently 161.

DPlatzer: you sound like you're having a great time in Boston, im so glad! oh ya just thinking about those malteasers now... no wonder i went mad for them haha they are so delicious! Oh busy week so happy its Friday! Going home for the weekend to relax and eat good home cooking.

Oh its thanksgiving this week, nice one. Happy thanksgiving to you all. I guess it will be a quiet week on the forum this week.

officially the weirdest week weight wise Ive had in a while, I'm back to 128lbs, 1 off my lightest and 2-3lbs from my goal, but get this wed evening I weighed 137lbs, I nearly passed out I know its not good to weigh constantly but I just cant help it and usually it doesnt affect me that much, but anyway pretty happy this morning!! Its home to Mommy to feed me lots for the weekend haha!Good luck everyone hope I can stick to moderate overeating for the weekend, havent decided if Im boozing yet, but im leaning towards no just so I can stay on track!

Hey Ladies,

I am still 158-159. Over the last month I have tried zig-zaggingcalories, upping my workouts, started lifting weights (admittedly only twice a week) but still NO change.

I have decided that my body is just resistant to losing anymore right now. I have lost over 10% of my body weight so maybe my body just wants a break. I just feel a bit ridiculous that I have been at the same weight for 4 months :(

I am going to eat maintanence through my half marathon on the 6th and probably through Christmas and then come back in January ready to lose this last 13 lbs!

Carol- Great work getting back down so soon after your holiday! Enjoy the home cooking.

dplatzer- the walking everywhere will definately help. I know that I lost much easier when I lived in a walking neighborhood because even if you skip out on the gym you have logged 2-3 miles just doing your daily activities.

lindsay- congrats on fitting into the dress. That is more validating than seeing the numbers on the scale for me.

I look forward to hearing about all your progress!

Happy Friday everyone.  I am back in the states and back to my scales.  I am at 141 today, only down .8 from two weeks ago, but I will take it!  I was worried about gaining while I was visiting the hubby, but I managed to lose almost a pound.  Walking on average 12 miles a day paid off!  Yeah!!!!  The plan worked Sealed.  So, I am down 72 lbs total with about 8 more to go.  I hope to continue to lose during the holidays, but if I can hold my own I will be pretty pleased as well.  I so want to make it into the 130's.....I can't remember the last time I was there....actually, I can't remember the last time I was in the 140's either.

Carol - awesome job!  You are an inspiration.

Kate - maintaining during the holidays is a great idea.  If you can hang in there and come back in January ready to lose again, I bet you will drop those last stubborn pounds at last!

DPlatzer - Wow....all those stairs....that is impressive.  If I would do stairs occasionally it would probably help me a lot.

Memphiskate- the exact same thing happened to me which is why I finally shrugged and went to maint. for the time being. I tried everything to keep the weight loss train going since I only had 3 more lbs to get to my goal but my body just refused, it had put up with enough I guess. I too am going to give it another go after the holidays. So far not pigging out on junk is easy when you're allowed to eat 2400-2600 calories a day!

Welcome Sixxx!

I envy you Carol! I wish my mommy was going to be cooking for me this weekend. I'm a pretty good cook but nothing is ever quite the same as mom made it, moms have special magical cooking powers.

Dplatzer- good for you, you're my new hero. I've been SO lame about working out lately. I've started doing weight training more but my cardio is nearing non-existant. I need to take you guys as inspiration and get going again.

Hi All -

I haven't posted for awhile, but have been keeping up on the thread. Everyone sounds great.

I'm down a pound this week - so I'm happy. Its a slow grind, but anytime the scale goes down I'm thankful. I've been walking each morning and noticed I need to increase my distance because I'm starting to finish the walk too fast. My dog loves me more now too!

Thanksgiving day doesn't usually give me too much trouble - I try to stay busy visiting, cooking etc. But the next day WATCH OUT!! Its the left overs that get me! I avoid the stores on the day after Thanksgiving - even though that could be considered a sporting event - so I'll need to stay active and out of the kitchen another way.

Okiewoman - you are still my hero. 130's? wow! I think I was in the 130's briefly - when I was first married. On our honeymoon I bought this great little black dress size 8 that fit me that night out only. I swear the next day it was already too tight. But I still have it, you never know.....Wink

Have a great holiday girls!

I'm just amazed that some of you weigh 140 lbs and under!  It just blows my mind how bodies can be that different.  My 13 year old daughter, who is now about 5'9", weighs more than you, and she is a little basketball machine at the moment, lean and fit.  Leaving High School, with more "filling out" still ahead of me, I think I was 160 - and I was a basketball machine then!  I guess that's why the BMI chart has such a wide range for "Normal."

I agree.  I would love to be 160, but I remember being there and still wanting to lose weight which seems silly now. However, I was not athletic and I think that makes a big difference in how people carry the weight, given muscle ratio and overall body size. As much as the 140s sounds enticing, my normal BMI starts at 169, and that sounds pretty good too.
