Lauren in San Diego here (5'11'').  I was up to almost 180 lbs at the end of last year and I lost about 10 pounds during Jan-Feb and then got lazy.  I need to get back on the wagon.  I think I weigh around 170 and I would like to be 150.  Weigh in on Fridays for me starting tomorrow.  I would love to chat with others who have similar stats and goals to stay motivated.  All my girlfriends are little petites, I need some amazon love!!

Let's look hot and healthy this summer!!!

we do have very similar situations!

I've heard the meniscus tear is way harder to recover from than the ACL.

I'm trying to stick to 1500 cal per day because I don't have a scale or a great way to measure anything while at work so that way I figure if I'm off by 10-20% I'm still at 1800 or below.  They say most of us underestimate our calories by that much.

When you do weight training, do you do whole body twice a week or upper/lower?

Yep we will have to help each other out.

I don't want to whine but yeah it really sucked. My right knee was never the same. My left leg can workout everyday but the right one always cries. So I am limited by it. I do whole body twice per week (specifically it's called bodypump (www.bodypump.com). I started to do pilates, only did it twice so far but I like it. I hope it brings my body into balance, especially my legs. I also spin about twice per week...been doing it for years, great for knee problems, well at least mine. I also like Zumba..too much fun.

Well 1800 should be fine. It doesn't take expensive equipment. You can use measuring cups (found at any dollar store). I highly recommend keeping a food journal with times and calories of foods. You would be surprised how off you can be. I got a Escali Primo digital scale $25 on Amazon. It not only helps me keep my calories in track but it helps me make sure enough protein (which my food journal showed me I wasnt). It's also great for recipes.

I also like the weight tracking log provided by cc. I like how it shows the trend. I get a kick out of weighing myself everyday just to see the pattern, lol

Okie: thanks so much for your encouragement, I feel really torn right now.. maintain calories because I want to be able to allow a little freedom but gain everything it took me the past year to lose or to stay on restricting cals to just maintain? I'm trying now I've finished my exams to incorporate more exercise and then eat the calories to compensate my extra burn, that way Im still the same balance between in and out but my body might get used to extra food. I just am lost with this maintenance gig I really am.

Caroline - First off - Happy Anniversary!  You have been here one year!  Second, I wish I could tell you what to do.  I know you are really struggling right now and I'm sorry for that.  If you can hang with the upped calories for a week or so, it should level out and you should start losing again on more calories than you were eating before.  I do understand the desire to lower your cals to the bare minimum.  Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.  Maintenance is so much harder than losing....my friends all think I'm nuts when I say that.  They think that once you've lost it, it's a cake walk.  What they don't know.........

Joss,

I'm going to buy a scale becaue you're right 1500 is not enough.  I lost 7 lbs last week which seems a little fast if I want to keep it off.  (I'm still kind of excited though).

I also went to My gyn due to excessive bleeding, ovarian, uterine cysts and weight gain, thinking it was hormonal. I had a uterine ablation performed which did not help either symptoms, I was told to go on a diet. Then My PCP suggested I get a Colonoscopy thinking it was my bowls being full, having constipation, then diarrhea. It was discovered I have Diverticulitis, irritable bowl syndrome, gerd, allergy to Milk (no milk drink soy) Well I hurt my back at work and went to my chiropractor. I saw a sign for BRT. URGH!  My computer crashed!!  I have been maintaining without logging for about a month now.  I used a pc based program to log my weight/cals/exercise because I was using it a few months before I stumbled on cc and was too lazy to switch over.   I do have a backup that I did a while ago, but I think I am ready to really try this without being tied to the computer to log everything I eat.  I really think I had gotten a little to fanatical about the whole thing.  I still count what I am eating in my head, so that part is fully ingrained in me (a good thing).  Wish me luck!!

Oh Okie, best of luck, dont forget to drop back in on us from time to time.. I for one will miss you're grounded wisdom around these parts. Good luck!!

Thanks Caroline.  It's that being old thing again Cool.  I will still be on the forums....just not logging my food to see how that goes.  How are you doing?  Are things settling down for you?

Good morning Ladies!

Weighed in this morning and lost 3.5 lbs this week!  This confirms to me that counting every SINGLE calorie makes a huge difference!  I am so excited to start my weekend off on such a positive note, and now I won't overeat on Sat or Sun because I don't want to un-do what I just accomplished.

I hope you are all having a wonderful Friday!

Congrats canucker!  Good job!  You are right, letting the little things slide and not counting them can be a huge issue because all of those "bites" add up.  I heard somewhere that a good rule of thumb is a bite of something is 25 cals.  That made me stop and think when I was really trying to lose in the beginning.

Hello everyone,

Just checking in to wish everyone a happy Mem Day weekend. Isn't it nice that there is no traditional eating associated with this holiday?!

I've started walking a bit further, up to 45 minutes every other day.  Can't say that the knees are any better, but at least I'm moving again.  I've gained 5 lbs since my low in Feb, but my eating has been terrible, so no surprise there.  I'm actually proud of myself for still being here and keeping track.

Etah - how exciting and scary that you are starting the surgery process!

Welcome to all the new people - we need more "losers" - all the oldies are at maintenance.  I guess that's a good sign - we'll get there too eventually!

Good job Yoga. 5lbs gain is nothing if you havent been paying close attenion.

Okie, im afraid things havent been settling at all. I am back in loss mode, I want to  be a LOSER again!! I went up almost 8lbs trying to maintain and im just not willing to let that happen, none of my clothes even fit anymore, im kind of freaking out still. I am back to 129lbs, but I feel a lot bigger than when i was 129lbs before. I will get back to 125 if it kills me (expression!!), I hate this feeling. Like right now, I just spent an hour trying to figure something to wear because all I can feel is jeans tighter, breasts spilling out and looking thrashy. I mustve gained a whole lot of flab. its soo depressing!!

Yeah Yoga - I'm proud of you for only gaining 5.  Keep at it, it will come back off and then more.

Caroline - I'm right there with you hon!  I have gained about 4 lbs in the last 10 days and I think it must be all flab because I can feel it in my clothes as well.  I will be back into loss mode next week.  We have been working outside rebuilding the roof on our large storage building (Hurricane Ike put a tree through it).  I hauled almost the entire roof around to the front of the house and tossed it in a dumpster (after the hubby cut it up into pieces)....ate more as a result of that activity which theoretically should have balanced out....but I guess it hasn't.  We shall see.  I lost it once, I can lose it again!  Hang in there!!!

Where have all the new ladies gone?  How are you guys doing?

Some of us new ladies are just following the chatter.

I have been doing really well.  I 've upped my workouts and upped my calorie intake and have started losing weight again.  I have lost 3 lbs in the last two weeks.

Keep at it ladies it will work out.  Some times  it takes some changes to make it work.....you will  find what makes it work for you.

Please help Smile with this survey on Calorie intake. Perhaps this would help to make sure we are on the right track. As we all know it gets harder as the more we lose.

I would like hear from women at least 5 10 that sw around 185-200, preferrably around 185, weekly exercise hours and successful daily calorie intake.

I'll start.

5 11, cw 185 (stable for one month) (sw 198 in Jan 10 pounds lost in 2-3 months), at least 6 hours of exercise per week, 1700 calorie intake (no weight loss for a month however, many inches lost)

I'm not sure how much this will help given that my weight loss process has been erratic, inconsistent and constantly changing but here goes...

Height: 5'10"

8/1/08: 195 (SW)

9/23/08: 180

10/30/08: 175 (SW on Calorie Count)

1/16/09: 159

2/17/09: 157 (Plateau began here)

5/26/09: 145

So, as you can see I got stuck somewhere around mid-February. Up until that point I had been a faithful calorie zig-zagger aiming to average 1800. I spent a fair amount of time at the gym where I would do about 30 to 60 minutes of cardio and a minimum of 30 minutes of strength training five days a week. In March I made a big move and started a new job, so weight loss was put on the back burner beginning then. In April I made a concerted effort to start counting calories again. Since then I've averaged 1600 calories a day and have been running about 3 miles every day. For strength training, I've been doing pilates, lunges, tons of push ups, squats, etc. I've been fluctuating between 145 and 150, which is quite normal for me. Throughout the journey I've eliminated all soda and most processed foods. My goal weight is 140. Sorry for being long winded!!

Thank you soooo much!

It is so helpful to see someone else successful journey. It makes me want to continue and be patient. I had eliminated processed foods and soda years ago. I eat very healthy. It's always been about portions for me. There are weeks where I burn 5000 calories in one week, stick to 1800-1900 calories and still do not lose. But fortunately, I did lose some inches otherwise I think I would have felt defeated. I can definitely see going down to 1600 calories after losing so much weight since your body is smaller and needs less. I bought a food scale a few weeks ago to make sure I was eating the right number of calories. I have been stuck on 185, eating about average 1700-1800 calories, I fight the hunger I feel at times with warm beverages like tea or decaf tea. I really dont think I can possibly eat less calories, I would be way too hungry. At this point, I either have to eat more or less to get off this plateau. I may give it one more week.

Hi nutriwks - How is it going?  Did you make any progress??

Hi everyone!  I'm new to CC and would like to join in here.

I'm 5'10", 52 years old, current weight 171.5.  My top weight was 245, so I've lost about 75 pounds, but it's taken over two years to do it.  I've had many plateaus, mainly due to not exercising enough.

Yesterday was my first day logging on this site, and I was amazed to see how high my protein intake is.  And I thought I was barely getting enough protein, due to eating very little meat.  I think that this site is going to be very useful and informative for me.  My sugar intake was sky-high too, but that's hard to avoid when you're eating lots of fruits and veg and high-fibre cereal.

My goal weight is 150.  My only exercise at the moment is long walks, but I try to walk at a very fast pace.  I used to go to a gym, but I don't want to pay the membership fees right now.

Like a lot of the women here, I have knee issues.  It definitely seems to be a common problem for tall women.

My weight has been stalled in the low 170s for months now, and I hope to start losing again, even if it's only half a pound a week.  I'm anxious to reduce the size of my belly, which is still huge despite my weight loss so far.

Greetings to all the tall ladies here.  Hope to see you on Friday's weigh-in.
