I have seen quite a few threads for tall people. But i just think that ive had the last straw!
Do people REALLY think its going to be a compliment when they ask you how much you've lost so far and then throw in that IN THEIR OPINION about how "Big Boned" you are! i just want to scream at them and say look, fat ass, im tall and im loosing weight, i dont need your **** try at supporting my weight loss NOR do i need your damn opinion on how "big" my bones are!
are all people this rude??? or do the people i know just think im sweet enough to not get offended at that. but DAMN, who wouldnt!
Just thought id ask and see how many people get this DISS/COMPLIMENT.....
please feel free to add stories.....and good luck with your weight loss or maintenace
Well to be honest these people are full of crap..and yes you should be offended since well there's no such thing as "Big boned". In general (excluding those with bone growth disorders) the human skeleton weighs the same from person to person.
Denise
I am 5'7" and have been told that I am "solid". I am not sure if thats a nice way of saying big but I don't really like it.
Ya know, people are just ignorant and should not state opinions on matters that they have zero clue about....being "BIG BONED," has absolutely NOTHING to do with height. You can be 4'11" and be large framed (the correct term for BONE size), and on the contrary, be 5'9" (me) and be small framed (me), DUH.
thanks for the replies! i really was just wanting to whip out my big ol' bones and beat someone down at that point. it just so rude! and if i wasnt getting so much information on here, i think it really could have affected me...negitively. Thanks to CC, i have the knowledge to know its a bunch of B.S. and atleast i know more about health in general then these idiots do. ESP to think that calling somone "BIG BONED" is a nice thing to say. its just unacceptable in my eyes. and from what you guys are saying, its not just in my eyes!
sour pumpkin: i get the solid thing too. even as a baby i was "solid". you shouldnt like it, because thats not a nice way of saying anything.
i think people need to remember what their mama's told them: if you dont have something nice to say, dont say anything at all.
AND, this: treat others as you would like to be treated....its called the GOLDEN RULE for a reason, its Golden. lol. sounds silly, but 100% true!
concurs
Hello! Hahah, I totally call people out. I can't tell you how many times I've heard "Wow, you sure are a big girl!"
Umm, no, actually I'm tall JERK! LOL, sorry, this is a huge peeve of mine! ![]()
I hate it.
I used to get told i was just "Big boned" all the time.
big boned, solid, stocky (HATE THAT ONE)...all the same. RUDE.
People can be so ignorant at times.
I'm 5'9" and have never claimed to be "big boned". There is such a thing as large frame, but that's something completely different and certainly doesn't result in the pudge one sees in someone who claims "big boned"; in fact, people with large frames tend to look thinner not fatter than their counterparts who weigh the same.
yeah, she's probably too thin.
there is such a thing as "big boned." people who are big boned have bigger hands and feet. they may even have bigger heads. they have bigger ribcages and pelvises and knees. the point is, big boned (or large framed, if you want to get away from the folk-wisdom terminology) does not equal fat. you can be small boned and fat: i know - i was.
thanks for the replies! even if they were replies to correct my grammer! lol. im not so good at checking my spelling when im venting like that. when you have the last straw, well, you have the last straw!
either way, im really glad im not the only one out there that cant stand terms like that or idiots that decide they need to tell you about it. because weather you have a large frame and your short, or you have a small frame and your tall....its just not nice. and its none of their business unless your taking a survey on weather other people think you have them or not! lol.
adrieu: i hate the "big girl" thing! even as kids it bugged me. my sister got it more then me and she was a little stick child! i used to get so protective of her and my little 5yr old self would correct the adults, TALL not big. lol. we've gotta stick up for our own kind!
ps-i like to hit the enter button......sorry if you dont like it!
It's really a matter of tact. As a 5'10.5" girl, all my life I've been the recipient of tactless comments regarding my size. I've never been overweight, but apparently that's completely irrelevant; if you're taller than a lot of guys and female, you're going to get treated like a freak of nature every now and then. I wish I could say I've learned to turn it off and ignore it, but it still hurts me when it is implied that I am 'large' or even 'manly' because of my stature. I have a medium frame and feminine features. The only 'manly' thing about me is that I'm not 5'2", but height shouldn't be a masculine characteristic in the first place.
