Tall people trying ot lose weight.
Does anyone lese have this problem:
You are a tall gal, and so all of your weight spreads out so much that you don't look very large and everyone always tells you that your'e crazy for wanting to diet, even though you KNOW you aren't healthy?
I swear i get that all the time, to the point where i don't want to admit that i'm trying to lose weight because of the stares!
I'd really like to start a a forum going, and even a group maybe, for tall people who want to lsoe weight. it's so hard finding a buddy your height with your weight, so let's help each other out!
I'll start.
Age: 18
Height: 5'10
Weight: 161 lbs
Goal Weight: 130lbs.
You should refer to this site before you get started. http://www.bcm.edu/cnrc/bodycomp/bmiz2.html It's important to advise you that your weight is absolutely healthy for someone your age and height. If you did succeed in reaching 130lbs, however, you'd be borderline for 'clinically underweight' which puts you in the path of all kinds of medical problems. 150lbs would make you very slim indeed.
Rather than calorie-counting as a first call try going the route of incorporating a lot more exercise into your day and by eating 'better' food rather than 'less' food. Better food - some people call it a 'cleaner' diet - means that your shape changes for the better because you're less at risk of fluid retention. In people with an especially poor diet this can be 7lbs quite easily. Better, more nutritious food also means that you would be healthier.... more vitamins, more minerals. This site aimed at teens has some great ideas on how to get a healthier diet without calorie-counting. http://www.eatwell.gov.uk/agesandstages/teens / More exercise means that you can tone up your muscles, burn fat, feel energised and therefore look slimmer and healthier at the same time.
Good luck
I totally agree! I am a 25 y.o. female. I am 5'10" and weigh 134 pounds. At my previous weight of 152, all of my girlfriends would tell me that I looked fine and that I was skinny. I didn't realize that I could lose any weight until a guy friend told me that I looked like I'd "gained a few". My diet at that weight consisted mainly of junk (fast food daily and sometimes twice a day). As women, I think we do ourselves a disservice by being "too nice" to eachother! I now have a much more balanced diet and am so much happier and healthier! All thanks to my guy friend's word vomit!
I am 22 @ 5 10' and seriously want to lose about 30 lbs - 40 lbs I weight 190 now I want to be at 150 because I play soccer I am a little thicker so for my frame 150-160 is great.
When I tell people I want to lose weight and I watch my calories work out like a savage now they think I am crazy!! I am like ok the clothes cover me up very well! BUT when i went out on the boat with my brothers they were like whoa sis you sure got comforatble with you boyfriend. That was my cue
GET IN SHAPE!! I am now on a mission to get in shape in 6 months. Wish me luck.... Also stick to your goals because you won't be happy unless you are happy with your weight.
DON'T COMPLAIN and not do anything about it!! Stop snacking; eating after 8 drink a glass of water 30 min before each meal and you won't eat as much...
Good luck! We are in this together; micki
We're in this together, haha. Us tall girls need each other for support, since nobody else seems to think we're out of shape but ourselves, haha (and in some cases, our brothers)

I think you are accurate to a point, certain people are very unhealthily skinny at that weight, but i wasn't
You're a recovering bulimic according to your profile so you clearly weren't healthy at 130lbs..... you only kept the weight off by vomiting. Also, how long ago were you 130lbs? Bodies change as you go from being a 'girl' to a 'woman'. 140lbs would give you a BMI of 20 which is very, very slim.
I'm not against your objectives of getting into better shape or losing a few spare pounds but I think you should be realistic about what a healthy weight is, and also not put yourself at risk of slipping back into old behaviour patterns.
Sounds like a great idea! I know exactly how you feel. My husband keeps telling me that I don't need to lose weight, but I'm not so sure he is the best judge. In any case, my stats are:
Age:23
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 155 lbs
Goal Weight: 145 lbs

Well i was bulimic in early middle school, and about 2 years after recovery, i was in high school at 130lbs, which has been my healthiest weight, according to a doctor, mind you, so that's what i'm going for.
I don't think you understand that tall girls hold our weight differently, so what seems far too skinny to you is regular to us. If you look at the girls who are from 5'9-6'something on here, you'll notice that they are usually only around my wiehgt or more, even less, but want to lose aftentimes the same amount of weight.
i can't emphasize this enough, peopler are built differently, and to those who aren't built that was, it never makes sense.
Well lets keep each other in line! I want to lose 15 lbs by July what do you think.... Is this a good goal? I am sticking to my 1443 calories a day on the calorie count and I work out 5 times a week! I am very passionate about losing this weight!
:)
I'm hoping for the same! any weight off would be good weight, but it's always nice to be thinner in the summer, it's too hot for all that extra weight!
Mine say 1600, and i'm getting good at not going over that too much, staying under it mostly. I won't have time to exercise til summer, but then i already have signed up for a abdominals class, and a dance-fitness class, in addition to the gym membership in general. WHat i really can't wait for is the kayaking in the summer, which i love!
Agreed! I would love to lose all the weight by the summer, but any of it will be better than nothing!
As for me, I think my calories are a bit screwed up because I made some updates to my goal weight and it recalculated my calories according to the new calculator (which I hear is screwed up). It is saying that I need to eat 1350 calories, which seems a bit low. I am going to stick to eating between 1450-1550 a day. As for exercise, I try to alternate it. I am always walking (I live in Rome and walk to the places I give English lessons) and then I go bike riding and do tae bo. I also do a little bit of strength training and balance ball stuff.
When do we want to give updates? Once a week?
it is an interesting discussion I think you should let your body choose the right weight for you.
If you are eating a healthy natural well balanced diet, doing moderate exercise and avoiding the sugar, salt and bad fats..your body will lose the weight it wants.
You will plateau but will remain there because if your doing everything right your body is happy there.
I agree that sometines it is diffcult to know the exact ideal weight however your body does.
A check up at the Doctor/Healthcare Professional will confirm this. Keep a diary, record your weight, check your Blood Pressure and pulse, do your body measurements..neck, chest, tummy, hips and thigh. Then if you feel, sleep, look great..then you know your in the right area.
CC will help you but you need to make the choices that suit you but are endorsed later by your Doctor who says..."your in good health keep doing what your doing."
There's a difference between 'out of shape' and 'needing to lose weight'. I think you're severely confused and should DEFINITELY talk a doctor about your goals whether or not you think you know what you're doing. Your doctor can take in consideration your 'different build'.
Don't just assume that 130 is the healthiest weight for you. Go by whatever your body feels is the healthiest weight. If you find yourself having to starve yourself to get to that weight, I wouldn't be surprised. However if you find that eating healthy and a very reasonable deficit gets you there pretty steadily without starving yourself, then this is probably good for you.
You might also want to try to focus more on excercise for your deficit instead of a calorie deficit (but you can still calorie count to not go overboard) so you can get back in shape and not just lose weight.
I think updates once a week are good, say every saturday. Even though i'll probably be talking to people on here more than that. I think we should try to friend everyone on here if we an, so we can talk to each other outside of the forum. I hope we get some more people on here so we can help each other out:)
I really am not sure if i want to get all the way down to my goal weight, or just until i feel or look healthier, but either way, i want to maintain it once i get there.
Ya I think that's a great idea! I will be more then happy to motivate you and likewise!! I get on here every day to track calories and my work outs! We are in this together!! YOU CAN DO IT! :)
That's the spirit:) I plan to be faithful to my "life style change" and log my calories everyday, and any activity that i happen to do on my off time.
Today will be difficult. I work in a snowball shack, and i work tonight, so everybody cross their fingers that i don't wind up ruining my good behavior.
Aww hang in there!! I work a desk job & I started a walking group called MOVE motivate others vigorously w/ energy!! It's great I started out with 3 people I have 6 in my group now!! We do full body 30 min work outs mwf and core t&th
Don't let your job get you down look at it as a way to work out and burn calories!!! Just an idea :)
Thanks for the idea! I will spend some time trying to figure out ways to work out while i work, and post the results later:)
Awesome! I am so excited! Let's do check-ins ever Saturday, but we can always write here if we have something exciting to share or if we need motivation!
I am excited!! This is going to be great! So I will check in on Sat's!!
Oh I read this article today... If anyone has issues with Cellulite like I do... Try getting some coffee grains and put a dab of water in with it and heat it up a little like 15 seconds then rub all over your troubled areas and wait about 15 mins then wash off!
I am going to try it and do a before and after let me know what everyone thinks... I am going to try and do it sometime this week :)![]()
How can I make walking fun?
You have to find a way to make exercise fun or else you won't do it. If you walk indoors on a treadmill, I recommend moving outdoors into the fresh air... Read more
