Tall people trying ot lose weight.
Does anyone lese have this problem:
You are a tall gal, and so all of your weight spreads out so much that you don't look very large and everyone always tells you that your'e crazy for wanting to diet, even though you KNOW you aren't healthy?
I swear i get that all the time, to the point where i don't want to admit that i'm trying to lose weight because of the stares!
I'd really like to start a a forum going, and even a group maybe, for tall people who want to lsoe weight. it's so hard finding a buddy your height with your weight, so let's help each other out!
I'll start.
Age: 18
Height: 5'10
Weight: 161 lbs
Goal Weight: 130lbs.
Hey inacio, we are at the same point! I too am 5'10" and according to my weight today, I am 152 pounds (I weight myself everyday...I'm the kind of person who likes to see the fluctuations)! We had different starting weights, but now we are in the same place! How cool! My goal weight is also 145...I am going to wait and see what happens when I get there...I might want to lose another 5 pounds, maybe not. Who knows? We can do this journey together!
Hi everyone,
I guess I feel like a bit of an intruder, I'm only 5'8" which is not as tall as you guys, but I'd love to join this group as people are always saying to me: "you're not overweight, even if you're heavier than me because you're taller". I'm 163 pounds and want to get down to around 147-ish.
Thanks Kaetlynm for the welcome. Just out of curiosity, what size/brand of jeans do you usually wear? I don't feel like I have a good sense of what size people are just from height/weight measures.
I pretty much always wear the gap boot cut jeans. My current ones are a size 6, but I have had them during the time I gained some weight, so I think they stretched with me and never shrunk down (I live in Italy and they don't have dryers here...weird, huh?). Also, I haven't had the opportunity to go back to the US and try on new jeans since I have started losing weight. But, I will go out on a limb and say I am between a 6 and an 8 at the moment. What about you?
size six!?!?! JEALOUS.
I am still a 13! A fricken 13! I would LOVE to be a six, hell even a single digit would please me rather well.
Since I have joined this group I have been in the mind set that sometimes people START weight loss at my current weight, so instead of thinking ' Im good enough, Im done ' Im thinking more of, well I can kick it in gear and get at the flab and tone up!
See you all sat!
Yes, I know a six is nothing to worry about.
I am more into losing the fat I have (which is on my stomach and thighs) and gaining muscle. Also, I like this site because it reminds to live a healthy lifestyle...which I must say I wasn't so good at before. I also don't really have hips, which keeps my jeans size down. So, basically, my size of jeans seems small, but I have much more fat that I would prefer, and probably more than is healthy.
Exactly, different people, different shapes. I was just saying I commend you on the current size six, it gives me hope that maybe one day I can be there too :)
I have been comming down in size everywhere but the mid section- kinda the way it goes i guess. My wedding dress is very tight has a strip of beading right across my lower stomach, aka the worst part. I really hope I can keep losing weight and attempting to tone, if not I will duct tape that sucker back or something of the sort.
What kind of ' plan' is everyone on in here?
Congrats on getting married tannis! What a wonderful thing for you (and great motivation!) I too have a wedding dress...I really want to have a flat tummy for it. I am "technically" married already (courthouse wedding), but we are having the big party and another ceremony type thing next january. My husband started getting nervous about me being illegal in Italy(he's italian)...so we got married in March (we were already planning on the January wedding). In any case, the point of this story is that I too have a wedding dress and plan on wearing one of those spanx body shapers under the dress if I don't have my flat tummy by then (I have until January...I really hope to get there!). My mom has one and she said it was a great investment for when she wears a closer fitting dress.
As far as a plan, are you talking diet and exercise plan? For eating, I try to eat all natural things. Of course, some things are hard to make yourself (like hamburger buns or something). But, I mostly cook all of my own food (I love soups!). As for exercise, I have been doing tae bo (billy blanks) at least 4 times a week, with the occasional yoga workout in there. My husband and I just ordered a Wii (with the Wii fit thing), so I will be using that as well.
It is Saturday, so here we go again!
Stats:
Starting Weight: 165 lbs
Last Week's Weight: 154 lbs
Current Weight: 152 lbs
Goal Weight: 145 lbs
Two pounds! I am quite excited. Granted, like I said last week, I was retaining water, so I'm sure some it is water weight, but nonetheless, I am pleased!
i had a really bad week-and-a-half, diet-wise, so my weight last saturday was the same as my starting weight(i mean a seriosuly BAD week).so, here we go.
Starting Weight:169
Last weeks Weight:168
Current Weight:162
Goal weight:140/130
I realize its the morning and i haven't eaten so it's not really that accurate, haha, but still, i'm getting somewhere again.
as for a plan, i have classes lined up for the summer at m y local gym (one dance-fitness class and one abs class, both 2 times a week). I have a weird eating plan, i have 2 "good meals" just fruit and veggies and healthy stuff, keeping out completely the bad things, and i have one "normal" meal(any of the 3), which is things i would usually eat, but in smaller portions, or with healthier variations. The only bad part is i get very hungry between so i keep lots of healthy snacks like lowfat yogurts and fruits and carrot sticks and things
Well sat has come for my first weigh in
So Starting point-202
Current-164.2
Hopefully next week I will se that a pound or two less! Good job on you both for your weight loss this week
So, I know it is still Friday, but I thought I would do an early check-in seeing as how tomorrow I will not be home (visiting the in-laws) and there is no scale there!
Starting Weight: 165 lbs
Last Week's Weight: 152 lbs
Current Weight: 151 lbs
Goal Weight: 145 lbs
One pound ain't at all bad :)
Hi
Can i join i know I'm a bit late but I was so struck by the op as I'm almost the same statistics.
I'm 5'10
start weight 183
current weight 161(weighed in Friday)
goal weight 140-145
the lowest I've been is around 134 but I haven't seen that since my early 20's (I'm 28 now)
I've lost 22 pounds and no ones really noticed. I keep getting comments from my boyfriend and work colleague that knows I'm trying to lose weight that because they see me every day (pretty much) its not as noticeable to them as someone who sees me for the first time in ages.
However this theory isn't panning out because we recently had guests stay with us who hadn't seen me in ages since my heaviest and they said nothing. Then my boyfriend tells me that because I carry the weight well because I'm so tall. I didn't really look like i needed to lose in the first place that maybe they were embarrassed to say something because I might not of been trying to lose weight and they might think I'll be insulted if they said something.
I've got a big work conference on the 17th August so I'm going all out for this because I was pretty heavy at the last one and I work in the fashion industry and everyone is talking about what there wearing and how people look so I'm preying for someone to notice then.
Welcome tennisclaire!
Even though no one has noticed yet, they will be noticing soon. It all just depends on how your body burns fat...it is highly likely you burn fat from all over, making the overall effect less noticeable, but it will get more and more noticeable with time!
Good luck!
hey guys!
I am 5' 9.5" and weigh 155ish, age 22. My goal weight is 145/140lbs depending on how i feel. I was so happy to have found this post. It's easy to talk openly, honestly, and in a motivational manner to others who are of similar heights and weights.
How long have you all been dieting and how many pounds have u lost? Have you discovered any successful weightloss tricks?
I think i will expand on this post a little bit more to let u other tall-heads know why i want to lose weight. Like many of you, i do not look overly obese- i also hold my weight well because I am tall. I am fairly muscular but have some chub. I want to lose weight because right now i feel AWFUL. I am just finishing up that time of the month, have been eating awfully and stuffing myself which is the worst, and, to top it all off, i just got a heinous hair cut making me feel so far from "cute".
I am starting my "diet" tomorrow (mon), meaning i will have to step on the scale which I am DREADING. but i know once i see results it will be worth it. I would like to be below 155 by this thursday. I need to start treating my body right. I exercise a fair bit s what i really need to focus on is portion control and eating the right things. Gosh, i am dreading stepping on that scale. ...
weighed in at 154.4. Would love to drop 2 pounds this by friday!
I'm doing so well today. I decided that i needed to start treating my body better at some point, so i figured i'd start today. I'm focusing on portion size and choosing better food options. I have also, within that past year, realized that i eat best when i have breakfast. This prevents me from consuming as much later in the day. Hopefully i'll be able to keep this up!
getfit20, welcome! We are actually very similar in our stats. I am 23, 5'10" and my goal weight is 145/140, depending on how I feel. I also carry my weight really well and don't "look" fat, but I definitely have fat that I want to get rid of.
I have been losing weight since March, although I really started counting calories in April. In any case, I started at about 165 and I have gotten down to 150. So, only 5-10 more pounds to go!
nice to meet you kaetlynm! so nice to meet and be motivated by people that have similar goals and statistics as you. I am actually going to be traveling throughout Europe-- i leave next thursday and i was hoping to get down to 150 before i go. I will be traveling for 6 weeks. I feel like i will be so active there with walking around and such that the last 5 pounds will come off easy. I am going to see how i look and feel at 145. If i feel like i can still lose that extra 5lbs, i will, but there is no real urgency right now.
Congratulations on your weight loss thus far. It is so exciting to hear success stories.
Also, you will likely find it easy to lose the weight while you are traveling, as long as you watch the portion sizes! With all of the walking, it makes it much easier!
Enjoy your trip and good luck with the weight loss!
