Tall people unite!
Feel free to post your height, weight, goal weights, how you feel about your height, whatever you feel like.
6'0" girl here, 17, and looking for other long leggies out there to keep me company. All of these threads of shorter people makes me feel like a freaking tree. I'm 116 and looking to tone, but since summer started, I lack the motivation to do anything that involves getting offa my butt. :D

5'10 or 5'11 and 17 yrs here at 138lbs
I actually love my height nowadays. I used to be a bit uncomfortable and awkward with it which I think may have contributed to my not-so-natural weight gain about a year and a half ago. I actually now prefer to be taller and I dont think I'd really want to date a guy taller :P Sometimes I feel like a giant (I just got hired to a store where all the other sales associates are quite petite and heels are part of the dress code) but I think it can be attractive and has a sense of power.
I've just lately been trying to drop the few more pounds to be back to a weight that I believe is healthy for me (it's still 10-15lbs heavier than my pre-gain weight, but I was pretty darn lanky and no pants ever fit so I dont want to be that skinny again!)
The plan I've come up with for myself involves a minimum of a 1 hour walk each day, walking or biking anywhere that I dont have to wear a suit to, 100-200 abs excercises each night, 50 thigh excercises per side, butt clenches whenever I think about it, around 1200-1300 calories per day (mainly raw foods or homecooked, eliminating as many carbs as possible), as little as possible sugar, no white or processed flours, no beef, no pork. Being young though, I'm very careful to get at least 1 dairy serving per day, taking calcium supplements if I feel I'm lacking. I also limit myself to 1 sweet thing a day at max and usually throw out half of it or split with a friend if its really big.
Biggest problems I find include the fact that being tall, no one seems to notice excess weight until it's too late to stop gains, the coffee shop next to my work serves macadamia nut butter tarts (2 weaknesses in one and the things are HUGE) and finally that my parents LOVE cooking large pasta dishes with whipping cream. I also find that sometimes I look at girls much shorter and think oh wow, look at the size of her legs, I wish mine were that size, without considering that by proportion, that would be weird.
Any issues with clothes fitting? I'm guessing you're a size 0 or 2... I found that once I became smaller than an 8 (currently 4) it was near impossible to find anything long enough without shopping couture brands...

i am so glad someone made this group! i am 5'10 and i weigh about 127. i really want to get down to about 120ish. when i was injured i got to around 137 at my highest. im very athletic and im getting very frustrated b/c i cant seem to lose any more weight. i kinda go back and forth between 125-129. i really am trying to lose this weight, and i was doing really good until this past weekend when i seemed to go to cook out after cook out! and now i feel like im starting all over again. i love being tall but since i am so tall, i feel a lot more pressure to be thin, not model skinny or anything, just thin b/c otherwise you look twice as big as you actually are. the only part that i dont like about being tall is how even though i LOVE to wear heels, i tower over everyone (including the guys) and to make it worse, none of my shorter friends like to wear heels so i am always over a head taller than everyone. but i would never want to be short, i love it and i think it makes me different from everyone else!!!! good luck to everyone, and keep up all your hard work!
Ok, so I'm not the only one who feels a stronger pressure to be thin because of height! I guess the fact that long is always combined wiht lean that puts this image in our heads. Mindyou... I could never be curvy... so I guess I dont mind XD
6'4", male, 240, looking to get down to 200-205.
niiko - I agree with the guy thing. Even though I only have a year of highschool left, there are barely any guys AS tall as me. So I'm just praying some of them grow this summer so I don't feel so.. unfeminine? :D But sometimes being so tall makes me feel unique, too, so I wouldn't want it any other way, either.
And don't get me started with clothes. Jeans are never skinny enough or long enough. Even when I look for the 'long' styled jeans, they're still too short! And shirts, even though not as big a problem, either they're too big or if they fit, they're too short. It's a huge relief that long shirts are in now, so I can shop with ease. ;)
That sounds like a hell of a workout plan, too! Good luck and stick with it.
kelly - (lol, Kelly's my name too!) I thought I was the only one who felt like if a person is tall, people automatically expect them to be thin. I also hate comparing myself to shorter girls, because in comparison my arms or legs look bigger, when really, they're fine for their size.
HK - Hey, I've seen you around the vegetarian forum! Had no idea you were so tall. :) Do you ever get comments about being so tall, or is it not as unusual to people to be really tall if you're a guy? And do you have trouble finding clothes that fit? Good luck with your goal!

I don't think 6'4" is especially tall for a guy in America. :) What can I say? I drank alot of milk as a child. :) No difficult finding clothes, especially now that I've lose weight and can wear an XL :)
6'0, female, 200, down 27lb so far.
To the OP, sorry to be so personal, you're 6'0 and 116? Is that a typo? I know the BMI index is generally kind of useless for us tall people, but that's at 16ish, which is alarmingly low. Are you okay?
I am also 6'0 and when I weighed 150 (albeit with extreme athleticism) I was very thin.
I also don't mind being tall and towering over people. I'm an engineer so most of my coworkers are men, so most of my professional time is spent trying to be 'one of the guys'. Not much boobs and very tall helps that somewhat. I hit this height in the fifth grade though, I was one scary kid.

To girls: If you're ever in Canada try shopping at Jacob or Jacob Connexion (teen version) both are great stores with some pretty long pants depending on the make. I also find going up a price group helps... Seems that standard high end cut is 4 inches longer than other ones.
For guy's I'd actually like to date someone say.... 5'4. I just like the look of a taller girl haha! Tricia Helfer in BSG looks amazing being taller than Gaius and Kali in Grey's as well :P
6'4 is pretty tall for a guy, Ive only known a few around that height, including my 2 6'7 teachers and my 6'7 uncle XD. Strangely I know more tall girls than guys!
ellybell, yeah... I was wondering about that as well, but I have seen 6'2 people (males included) who weigh about 120lbs and look fine though slender. Seems to just be weird with this height... A friend of mine who is the same height looked severly underweight and unhealthy at 140lbs, yet for me I actually look a bit squishy at that weight....

muttlover---you always have to remember the fat weigh less than muscle, but fat takes up more space. so you friend may have been more muscular than you realized. and that would explain her weight being so high, so when you are at the same weight and you feel squishy maybe that you need to focus more on toning. haha if you just focused more on toning your muscles than losing weight you would not only shed pounds you would also lose inches and thin out. how much do you weigh now? b/c above it says 116 and that seems awful low for someone your height. i was sick about 2 months ago and i lost a lot of weight and i got down to 116 and i looked very unhealthy and i am 2 inches shorter than you!!!!!!! if you are 116 i will not encourage weight lose with you. if you want to do anything go to the gym and try to build muscle. one way that you can motivate yourself that always works for me is to tell your self that if you go and work out for an hour you can treat yourself to a mani-pedi or something like that. or this past weekend i took my dog for a walk to dairy queen and i got 2 small cones (one for me and one for my dog haha) and sit there and eat it and walk back. that is how i treat myself. i figure i still burned more calories in the hour that i walked than in the ice cream i ate ;)
my problem is that i am very muscular and since i am so muscular i weigh a lot more than someone the same height and measurements without the muscles. My biggest problem is i still have stubborn fat in my butt that i just cant seem to lose and it gets so frustrating. i have lost around 10lbs but i have toned out a lot b/c i work out daily. but i am still struggling. it seems that the first place you gain is the last place you lose so i guess i just have to keep doing what i am doing. only 5 more lbs to go until i reach my goal!!!!! :)

6 '1 female. I am 230 pounds. In the last year I have gone from size 18 to size 14. Havent lost any real weight in about six months, however, the clothes thing is kind of nice. I would like to be 200 pounds. I am at a place in my life, kids are almost grown, there is a little time for me now. I just want to be healthy but of course if wouldnt hurt to look as good as I could! I am really looking for support and motivation from others. Usually, I find motivators but they seem to vanish after a few days. I hope everyone has a great day!
I was thinking that ellybell, i just cant imagin weighing les then 160 pounds (although once i get down to around there maybe ill change my mind) Im 5 foot 10 and weigh 176 pounds, looking to go down to about 160 by..... whenever really, however long it takes to get there lol Ive been alittle overwight most of my life so the idea of being 'thin' is an exciting one, but as i love food so much im in no hurry as long as i keep losing, im happy if i lose 1 pound a month lol I like being tall, it helps that my best friend is about 6 foot 4 so when we go out i can wear my high heals (albeit only 2 1/2 inch ones) and not feel like a giant. :)
6'1", male, started out at 235 lbs, now down to 170 lbs.
5'11 and 176 aiming at 160
Being a mother of beautiful daughters, I have to feel sad that there are so many postings from young women with what sounds like dangerously low BMI's who are dieting. If you allow your body fat index to drop too far, you not only risk anerexia, but you endanger your future reproductive health. This is a con game played on you by the ad companies of corporate America. We strong (and tall) women of America need to unite and tell our community that painfully skinny is as unattactive as obese. I am happy for men to join in this campaign.
The only time in my life I have been under 150 was after my divorce and when I had a good hard look at myself, I decided enough already... that is not good looking, nor healthy.

I'm female, 5'11 .... was over 260, now at 241 .... would LIKE to get to 160, but will be HAPPY to get to 200 (then work from there)
You younger people that don't have a lot of weight to lose .... I was there ONCE .... then you have children and gain the weight, not lose it, have "life" problems, then get health problems cuz you're over weight .... I FINALLY told myself I NEED (and WANT) to do this for ME !!
Keep up the good work, but don't starve yourselves! Be happy AND healthy !

Yay a post for us giants! I am 6'0 and 145, wanting to get down to 135 which was my lowest ever. muttlover - 116 is an extremely low weight for someone as tall as you, I can't imagine myself being that weight and being alive! I guess everyone has different body types and structures but that sounds dangerous. How many cal's do you eat per day and how much excersising do you do? Hope everyone has a good weekend :)
I too feel the pressure to be thin because I am tall. I am 5'10" and I weigh 180lbs. I recently lost 20lbs. but sadly gained 10 back.
I used to weigh 125 and found it to be a little too tiny for me, eventhough I am small-medium framed my weight was constantly commented on. I gained some weight and felt very comfy at 135 and the negative comments turned to positive. Yay! It is very frustrating to hear that I need to lose 45lbs. to get back to 135, it is such a huge number to me that I often lose my motivation when I stop to think how much farther I have to go. What is even more frustrating is that I only had 35lbs to lose but two months of slacking off brought that back to 45lbs. I guess I shouldn't really complain though...there are a bunch of people on this website that have lost 100lbs. and more, so a huge congrats to them...I wish I could get my ass moving like they did.
The motivation from other tall people just might be what I need to get me back on track. I look forward to chatting with all of you!

I am 5'11" and was at an all time high of 260 at the beginning of April, I am now 238 and feel much better. My goal is 180. (Then we wil see) I was 155lbs while in college and thought I was fat. I would kill to be there now!!
My advice to the younger talls (Both under and over weight)- develop good healthy eating habits now! and don't let the weight creep up too high. It is much more difficult to loose the older you get.

I'm 6 feet tall, and the shortest person in my family. I recently noticed that I have adapted to life with short friends. While walking, I looked at how big my steps were. I was taking many tiny little steps. I imagine I must have looked a fool all these years trying to not walk to fast so my friends could keep up. Now I walk with a full stride and it feels quite nice.
For those girls who cannot find pants to fit try Tall Girl. They have longer inseams, most 36? I believe.
I weigh 225-ish and am looking forward to wearing my size 13 jeans again. Everyday they seem to be getting looser!

Woo hoo! Finally, a place for me! I'm 5'11" and I'm now 158. I was 165 and I'm trying to get down to 145 - 150, depending upon the strength training. Jewels, I totally know where you're coming from! I always had short friends and I would constantly slouch so that I would feel more like their height. I had these two best friends throughout all of grammar school and high school who were no more than 5'2" at their tallest, and my Dad used to refer to them as, "The midget and the midget with makeup". These days I'm proud of my height and I'm married to a guy who is only 5'7". He actually encourages me to wear heels and he brags to his friends and co-workers about his "6-foot tall wife" (even though he knows that I'm not exactly 6 feet tall). Being tall seemed like a curse growing up, but now I really see it as a blessing.
Hey
my name is LEA
and i am 5'11
i am 18
and i weighed 125
i now weigh 122
and i want to weigh 114-116
I can pretty much eat what i want and stay at my height but i am very active with surfing, swimming, hiking, if i can walk to a place i do, i like to play all sports and my newest endeavor is tennis with my dad and i have friends who play it too and i am getting good fast. I am a perfectionist so my serving is already intimidating and i have been playing 2 weeks. Right now i eat no more than 1500 calories a day but i find that warding off bad carbs is the fastest way to lose weight. From havin eggs for breakfast, a sandwhich (using lettuce instead of bread) for lunch, and a salad with protein on top for dinner is the most affective way of losing weight. For snacks --- i know low carb says no fruit, but i love it too much! apples and grapes!!!!
today i ate 1300 calories
14 carbs
ans burned 3,602 calories
