Do you think I can get taller?

Quote  |  Reply

I'm 14, allergic to dairy and I want to be a lot taller. I'm 5'2" and weigh 84-93 lb.
I drink dairy substitutes and usually get 100+% RDA for calcium a day. I eat strawberries everyday (vitamin k). and I get a lot of vegetables. I try to sleep 10 hours a night, but on average I get 8 hours. :// I used to not eat too much protein, but I have been eating much more protein lately. Predict how tall I will be when I'm older?

theres a lot of factors that can go into it, i think your doctor can give you a rough estimate. if your parents/grandparents weren't much taller than 5'6 than you may not grow much more. keep eating a lot of calories, it sounds like you're not the type to pack on the lbs.

firstly, you need to eat consistently at least 2000 cals a day for the energy to do anything, including growing.

also, have you started your periods yet?

btw, theres nothing wrong with being 5ft 2! I am 5ft 2 and guys LOVE dinky, little women. They feel all masculine when they can cover you with their arms and carry you! be proud even if you Dont grow. At least you wont intimidate them with your height!

You will see that while "boys" might still fall for the images of women protrayed by the media, long as a rail and stick thin, the majority of real men actually love the smaller women with a bit of meat on their bones.

Why should she base what she wants to look like on what men like?

Or for that matter, what is portrayed in the media?

Granted there is only so much you can do to affect your height as an adult: continue to eat well, get plenty of sleep, make sure to get enough calcium, avoid caffine (that one probably stunted my growth), don't get into drugs or alcohol (those two can majorly affect growth), etc. But don't base what you want to look like on what other people find attractive, whether it is men or the media. The most important thing in the end, even if you end up shorter than you would like, is to be happy with yourself.

I agree. I hate it when people are like "it's good to be short/chubby/slim/tall/large chested/small chested/pear shaped/hourglass shaped, men like that". Why are women supposed to care about what men like? I know those statements aren't meant in a bad way; they're said to assure girls that their bodies are normal and attractive...but the idea that our looks are acceptable because they cater to the desires of others (men, women, the media) is offensive and silly.

Anyways. I've heard smoking does stunt your growth. Then again, everyone's different. Physical activity allegedly helps you grow.

christ, lighten up. This isnt an anti feminist post, 'men like X' is something a LOT of women like to hear when theyre feeling a bit insecure about X..... dont turn it into something its not, its just a confidence building tactic. Im not tellin ANYONE to change what shape they are Naturally, just to accept what you are naturally and, people, like the opposite (or same sex) will find those aspects of you attractive IF YOU embrace it. talk about being alarmist.

I never said she should base what she wants to look like on what men like, and from what I gather, neither did ktjo. We just offered some support and merely one of the many reasons why it's great to be short, considering the possibility that no more growth takes place.

I have a long list of other reasons why I love being short, and while everyone should have their own personal thoughts on the matter, sharing inspiration with someone else is hardly a reason to pick an argument.

Just sayin.

Jamie, the best thing you can do to grow as tall as your genetically able to is to not undereat...especially as a young teen.  Young teens need an absolute minimum of 1500 calories a day.  Most teens actually need more than that.  Undereating can stunt a teens growth.  Assuming you are eating enough, and eating your veggies and getting your calcium, I'd say you are doing all the right things to grow as tall as your body is able to.

ktjo and ily51, I thought your comments were positive & didn't mean for you to take mine as a personal attack, & if you did, sorry! Nor did I want to pick an argument about ingrained anti-feminism.

Basically I wanted to say: it's nice to be conscious that men like x despite the media portraying y, as a reminder that you aren't flawed for looking the way you do, but men liking x isn't why you should be secure with x, & it's important to realize the difference between feeling validated vs. feeling secure.

First of all, 5'2" is a great height and as nearly 5'11", I've pretty much always wished I was shorter.

Honestly, though? A lot of guys do like tall women. Straight up. Just sayin'. I know your comment was made with positive intentions, but it's a shame you had to hate on the tall chicks to flatter her. :P
