Tantrum over Peanut Butter!
Much to my annoyance since starting calorie-counting I only just recently tried PB and discovered how much I love it!!!
My problem is thus: my daily maintenance requirement is 1660 cals and I try to maintain a deficit of 200-400 as i am trying to shed a few stubborn pounds. I find it extrememly difficult to stay within this limit and not feel ill from undereating so I exercise most evenings to create the deficit...
However... i'm beginning to seriously crave PB & honey on toast and am getting a little fed up that this is about 300 cals a slice ![]()
try PB2! www.bellplantation.com. It tastes like the real thing and its only like, 50 cals a serving!
It might be the road to ruin but try almond butter, it is lish...
I LOVE peanut butter. Drives me crazy because I want it all the time. Sometimes I just don't buy it because I know I'll eat the entire jar. Grrrrr.....
Let me start by saying, I have never tried this myself, cuz I'm not a huge PB fan so for as often as I use it, I'm not concerned. (other than when I was pregnant, OMG, that was retarded, a jar a week!)
But my girlfriend boils up baby carrots til they're soft, runs them thru the blender until they are smooth, and then stirs them into her PB... I know, first thing I thought was yuck! But I guess there are a lot of people that dip carrots in PB so I guess it's not that far off :oS
Anyway, she swears that it tastes great and depending on what your carrot/PB ratio is, can greatly reduce the fat calorie content of it.
But still... Yuck!
have you tried just eating peanut butter with a banana or on apples? It probably isn't too much of a difference calorie wise, but nutrition wise it sure is.
here's a tip: if you melt peanut butter a little bit will go a lot further.
I love it also! And it is so hard to resist. I am planning on trying the PB 2 posted above as well. And eating it on lower calorie things is a good tip-celery?
My fave way is a good TBS mixed in my oatmeal with chopped apple and cinnamon. It is heaven. But with the PB2 I would save a ton of cals!
I recently had to start watching sodium levels and found no sugar/salt added peanut butter that I find just as good as the regular and it saves me calories and the sodium.
I've tried it on banana and am not a fan of that
but I am definately gonna try PB2......can I get it in the UK?
The oatmeal and cinnamon idea sounds NICE!!!
I hear you! And feel your pain! I absolutely love PB.
I personally wouldnt do the PB2 thing (too easy to think, its healthy and then eat way more than I hould). But I reduce the amount of PB I have and spread it real trhin. So on a slice of wholewheat bread, a TBSP of PB is just 270 kcal. Skip the honey and you are doing really well.
i eat PB with slices of bananas on whole wheat toast (2) slices including 2 hard boiled eggs (egg whites only) and 2 slices of bacon in the morning! I know it's a lot of calories in the morning and it is. It's about 500! But surprisingly, i stay within my calorie limits, sometimes even less during the day which is 1500-1600 cals. I snack on apples during the mid morning and by lunch i eat a big bowl of salad with whatever meat they serve at work. Then, by midafternoon i eat either oatmeal or one of those small to go box cereal with skim milk. By dinner, i eat another bowl of salad with whatever meat my mom cooks. And i swear i maintain about 1500-1600 calories.
As you can see i eat most of my calories in the morning, which is okay cause i'm moving most of the time because i'm at work.
All the while this is with drinking water, lots and lots of water. Keep eating your PB (without the honey, use banana it works well and taste as good). Just don't go overboard with lunch and dinner.
good luck!
I love pb and honey! Try it on whole wheat saltine crackers. You can use less pb because the crackers don't require a big schmear of pb, and the crackers themselves have less calories than bread (5 crackers for 60 calories). I eat a few as a snack before working out.
