Yeah I usually go by taste alone, I drink it if it tastes fine, if it taste bad I don't.  I know a few people that find the idea of drinking tap water abhorrent though.  *Shruggles*

i drink tons of tap water.  i just think its wasteful to buy all that bottled water.   It is probably a good idea to invest in some kind of water purifier, just to be safe.

edit:  my little sister refuses to drink tap water.  i dont know why.  she thinks its gross, even though she's only 15 and hasnt done any kind of research or anything on why tap water is bad.

I like tap water.  Like all water, though, it has to be really cold.  I think it's a waste to spend money on bottled water.  Hell, you're paying for the bottle and the name.

I've got a friend that will only drink water out of a bottle.  For a while she wouldn't drink tap water out of a bottle but I think her husband swapped some out on her once and she realised it tastes the same, so she'll drink tap.  It's still got to be in a bottle, though.

It depends on the city.  Some cities have really clean tap water, including the one I'm in now, so yeah, I drink it.  I've been to cities where it tastes awful, in which case... no thanks.

Our water tastes pretty gross but it comes out of the tap cold.  That's the most important thing to me, so I drink it.  Happily.

I drink tap water - but out of a bottle!  I find it's much easier to keep note of how much I'm drinking that way and I can pop it back in the fridge to keep it nice & cool :)

My water is mains tap water and tastes fine, so that'll be a Yes :)

A few years ago I had to purchase a new water system for my company.  There was one company trying to sell us on a very expensive reverse osmosis filtration system.  I needed to know if it was worth the money.

So I ordered a water analysis from the city.  The result showed that our city tap water was cleaner than the most popular bottled water brand in our area.

The reverse osmosis turned out to take ALL of the minerals out of the water and it tasted bad after filtration.

So now I drink the city tap water.

By the way you can probably order a similar water anaysis from your city.  Call the water department.  They always have analysis data available and getting the report is free.  For comparison you might be able to get a similar report from your local water bottler.  It can be eye opening I think.

My city sends out a water report every year that says what is in our water.  It can taste strange in the summer, but once I get used to it, it isn't so bad.

I have seen so many news reports saying that a lot of the bottled waters are just tap water anyway.  What is the point of buying it if I am already paying for water to come into my house?

No. Even if it didn't smell like chlorine, they put the flouride in which does nothing for your teeth once they've grown in. *resisting rant*

As long as its purified, I don't care if it was once tap water. I just want only water. I won't use a brita cause it won't filter the flouride.

i'm lucky enough to have great tap water where i live. i drink it all the time! i also keep a jug of it in the fridge so it's cold when i want it cold, but much of the time i just drink it from the tap.

my work stocks the fridge full of bottled waters, but we also have an oasis water filter machine. it drives me nuts how many people use the bottles when the oasis is ice cold and just as good. so wasteful!

i avoid bottled water whenever possible, i just think it is such a waste.

I drink our tap water but my husband insists on having one of those filters on the faucet.  I turn the filter off when I'm getting water because it tastes fine without it.

I drink almost nothing but tap water.  Since I don't care for the taste of chlorine, I have a carbon filter on a special tap in the kitchen that removes the chlorine for drinking water (and the ice machine is hooked up to it as well).  Even if I recycle the water bottles I think it is a waste to have all that plactic in the environment.

I drink water straight out of the tap in the winter, but once it gets to be warmer, the water starts to taste like Lake Erie which is pretty gross.  I usually filter my water during the summer to reduce the algae taste.

My break at work usually consists of a pint of water from the tap.  Refuse to spend £1.50 on a bottle.  I only ever buy a bottle of water if I'm climbing and it's topped up from the tap several times. Laughing

That is inaccurate, statistics have shown that it also slows cavity formation in adults as well.  :P

Exactly!  Our tap water is tested by our Municpality 4 times a year and they even drop the lab results off in person.  It would be interesting to see what the results are in bottled water.
